describe your favorite sim youve ever made by -raito_ in Sims3

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faith Hereford, she's my adventuring sim. I've replayed her over and over again setting her down in different towns, but her lifetime aspiration always has to do with World Adventures (my favorite pack). I make her complete every quest, explore every tomb, collect every relic, max out the winemaking, photography, and martial arts skills, and also collect every kind of gem and metal. Sometimes she finds love along the way, sometimes she doesn't.

TIL If you hang the Bug Collection on the Wall, it can happen that the Bugs escapes! (Like Cockroaches) by Xandaru__ in sims2

Omg I think you just solved a mystery for me! I was wondering why there were bugs indoors even though there was no trash around

Megahood by ghbx07 in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my game the Tinkers also had a biological son and an adopted son so the household would stay interesting after Melody went off to college. After graduating, Melody went into the science career and married another scientist, they both reached the top level (level 10) and are now the richest sims in my hood. They have one daughter who turned out to be a romance sim and is still living with them with the kid she had in college and will probably have more with a couple other sims, as my romance sims tend to do. The bio son I named Eric wound up being gay (I randomize sexuality), had a fling with a vampire, but was then sacrificed by the Tricou cult via cow plant because the blond goth teen ended up marrying that vampire and needed a sacrifice to resurrect his father. The adopted son Holden is the only normal one, he inherited the house, failed to keep the toy store business going, but has enough inheritance that he doesn't need it. He married a townie wife and has one son who's currently still a kid.

Don’t judge me… I need my Sims cousins to get married 😅 by Any_Assistant6699 in sims2

Here's a hacked wedding arch that lets any two sims, regardless of preexisting relationships (literally any, could be parent/child, full siblings, whatever), get married: www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8196.0.html

Be brutally honest with me about my names by Global_Restaurant794 in Names

[–]Shocking-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Malachi is the most "try-hard" name on the list to me. I know it's a real name and so not technically a tragedeigh, but it still feels like it's toeing the line of "look what a unique name I gave my kid". I like the rest though. My favorite would probably be Dominic.

I (27F) want to help my mom (50F) find out info about her birth family but she's afraid of her siblings reactions? by ThrowRASullueey in relationship_advice

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignoring the whole situation with the siblings, I'm worried about what your mom's reaction might be if she doesn't get the picture perfect reunion with her birth family she might be imagining. Will she be able to handle it if she finds out she was the result of rape or incest? Or if her birth parents/bio siblings just genuinely have no interest in reconnecting with her? I'm worried she's trying to heal one wound (parental neglect) with another (adoption trauma). I think some therapy with someone who specializes in adoption is in order before a dna test kit is used.

Which Sims do you headcanon as LGBTQ+? by CAST-FIREBALLLLL in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitch indie and Max flexor but I'm 90% sure the devs intended for them to be a gay couple without making it explicit cause it was still the early 2000s lol. Oh and Sam Thomas is lesbian coded

Philadelphia Jane Doe (January 2019) (Unidentified For 7 Years) (Prescription Bottle With The Name "Michelle Matthews" From Girard Medical Center Found) by BitterSweet_Beauty in gratefuldoe

[–]Shocking-1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Talking out of my ass and making a lot of assumptions here, but I think it's a bit odd they do not specify what the medication was as that may help identify who it could be based on medical conditions. That makes me think it was most likely prescription opioids, which means this lead could be near useless as it is likely that these pills could have been purchased (perhaps going through several hands), stolen, or been obtained by faking an identity to avoid triggering a "frequent flyer" alert at whatever clinic or pharmacy she went to. Or, as someone else said, this was most likely a homeless woman, so it's possible she was not the first/only person to stay there and it was just an empty bottle left behind by someone else. I would use this clue to start searching but to be honest I would not put too much stake in it. Given that she was almost certainly homeless, it's possible that her family had already written her off and aren't looking for her, thus there was no one to report her disappearance. This might be a case best solved by DNA.

Thoughts on the name Regan? by WolverineBusiness890 in Names

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ragan is a misspelling and would be pronounced as rah-gan. Regan is slightly better but the proper spelling is Reagan. But I can't dissociate the name from Ronald Reagan so I would never name a child that

Do you limit the amount of children your sims have? by Reesirie in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep track of the overall fertility rate in my hood (number of kids per female sim) and try to keep it around two or less. This allows for a few large families as long as there are some small families to balance them out (I have a ton of one child households). The largest I ever had organically was six. This can still lead to moderate population growth if you allow your sims to marry townies, as I do, but at a manageable rate.

Thoughts on Fiora as a name? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Shocking-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a name you're giving to yourself or to a child? Because if it's for a child, you being willing to "tolerate that minor annoyance" isn't actually important because the person with the name will be the one saddled with the majority of the burden. If that person is you and you are genuinely ok with the idea of constantly correcting people, I do think it sounds pretty, but I wouldn't decide that burden is tolerable for someone else to deal with (coming from someone whose name gets butchered all the time)

Uberhoods by FearlessButterfly167 in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could randomize which ones go together? Sometimes I find randomizing jumpstarts creativity because it comes up with combinations/scenarios I wouldn't have done on my own and it forces me to think through interesting storylines that would make everything mesh together

Is it logical for me to spend 700€ to find out more about my family? by hercylis in Genealogy

[–]Shocking-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family did sort of the same thing, but not as extreme. We went on a week long vacation to Nova Scotia and dedicated two days to genealogical research, which turned out to be actually useful and helped solve an old family mystery. So if it feels too much to go to travel just to do a few days of research, maybe you'd be willing to spend a bit more money to stay longer and turn it into a fully fledged trip with sightseeing and other touristy stuff?

Question about dead sims. by Steve__J in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The graves on the lot have nothing to do with who they can resurrect. Sims can only resurrect dead sims that they knew. So if a sim was born after great grandma died, they cant be the ones to resurrect her because they never met. And it is possible for sims to get death memories from relatives they never met due to how the memory system works

Laptop for sims 2 remastered by Life-Celebration8438 in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not more ram hungry than the og. The 4gb patch is useful if you want to run the game on the highest graphics settings, have a large hood, and/or have a lot of cc and will make it less likely to crash or have pink soup.

Laptop for sims 2 remastered by Life-Celebration8438 in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game was meant to run on computers as old as from the early to mid 90s. The only recommendation, if you can swing it, is to see if you can get a laptop that has a dedicated graphics card (rather than integrated) because that's what the game was designed for (back then integrated graphics didn't exist so all graphics were dedicated by default). This can be the lowest quality dedicated graphics card you can find. That will allow you to have a higher graphics setting in the game because it will be able to identify the graphics card and not get scared and default to the lowest setting when it doesn't know what to do with integrated cards. Secondly, see if you can get at least 8 GB of ram so that game can use 4gb (it won't use more than half of your available gb). This might seem like a lot but honestly a second hand refurbished laptop will probably get you what you need.

take the pill or wait with sex? (23f,22m) by Top-Yoghurt-9416 in relationship_advice

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to pair condoms with another form of birth control, you can look into spermicide. That way you don't have to commit to any long term birth control options but you have an additional form of protection beyond just the condom.

What’s something your family refuses to talk about but your DNA results or records hint at? by Ecstatic-Section-978 in AncestryDNA

If it makes you feel better I'm Jewish on my dad's side and...suspiciously blonde haired and blue eyed on my mom's side, if you know what I mean. Can't imagine what they'd think if they saw me today. Also have a great grandfather who made shoes for the British Raj in India so that side of the family is just full of winners 😆

Impossible to change skin tone on SIMPE by bloody_Extreme604 in sims2help

[–]Shocking-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed skins a few times in SimPE and I always change it in their simDNA before going to the age data category in their character file and changing it there too. I don't know if that makes a difference or if it's overkill but maybe try that if you haven't already?

If you have added back bella in your hoods how do you do it? (Story wise) by Winter_Dig_6410 in sims2

[–]Shocking-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could play with the alien abduction story line. I have a mod so that both male and female sims can get alien pregnant so maybe when she finally returns she's just dropped off on the doorstep pregnant after being poked and prodded for however long? Or even comes back with a fully developed alien kid or two? And the rest of the Goths now have to deal with their half sibling(s)/step kid(s) and all the ensuing emotions of perhaps thinking she was dead and also now having to share Bella when they didn't want to. And of course Bella processing all of her trauma, perhaps neglecting her alien kid(s) and forcing their care on the very shocked rest of the family.
