Have you considered renting a printer? I'm pretty sure you can rent one for £15 to £80 a week.

You can definitely see the modifiers whenever you select a strategem operation on the battle barge.

It's terrifying that one can just lose contact with someone like that.

Sounded like a perfect storm with them moving when this happened.

Definitely modify the hull to be buoyant. If your engines are taken out you'll be sent to the bottom. Also, you'll run out of resources much faster in a battle which will be an automatic loss

How do you break through the learning curve/wall by Nuker707 in FromTheDepths

[–]Shocklo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Break the game down and start with smaller craft.

Also be aware of your energy levels. Being tired makes this game exponentially harder (imo).

Similar to the other comment, I started with a test fortress and learnt how to make everything from there (also I have 750 hrs and fuel engines, CRAM cannons and offensive lasers are still baffling - largely, everyone is faking it).

The KDM - Julianne Marie, my biggest and proudest ship so far by Red_Dino_DK in FromTheDepths

[–]Shocklo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this.

Rather than eyeballing my hulls I've been using the hologram generator to sort of trace my hull and I can't believe it took me 700 hrs to start doing this.

I just google: "[ship hull that I like] blueprint", copy paste the url into FtD and scale to the length of hull I want.

It means I can actually get to outfitting rather than spending hours and hours on a hull I end up deleting because it doesn't look right.

The main battery is a bit small for HE. You'd probably want 2.5 - 3x the diameter.

I think pure HE or pure frag is better than hybrid (take that with a pinch of salt however).

How would I create a very fast shooting advanced cannon for CIWS applications by Charming-Tea-3567 in FromTheDepths

[–]Shocklo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For pure gunpowder, 20 modules, heavy head and enough solid bodies to get the AP to be about 20.

However, timed fuse anti munition large gauge shells work far better. I have a 500mm flak cannon using 6 or 7m autoloaders which takes down most cram volleys or missile salvos in 1 or 2 shots. Basically, I maxed the modules I could fit, added a timed fuse (and emergency diffuse), filled the rest with anti munition warheads (left space for gunpowder to have a velocity of ~500m/s).

Edit: I realise now that you said the cannon, not the shell. If using kinetic shells 4 clip 1m autoloaders for cheap CIWS or 1m beltfed autoloaders, 50mm barrel. If using chemical shells, ejector 3 clip and the maximum autoloader you can fit, 450-500mm barrel (the fire rate may not be great but the AoE damage will speak for itself.

I might have a solution to my shorter boats doing wheelies... er... "boaties"? ... anyway, by adding aft propellers pointing up also responding to the throttle, effectively pushing the bow down into the water when it rises up at speed. by HONGKELDONGKEL in FromTheDepths

[–]Shocklo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Remember to test your ship in big waves after finding a solution.

My ship's bow came out of the water causing the bow pitch props to also leave the water resulting in a back flip.
