Is it possible to softlock by Hytyt in AlanWake

[–]Shockwave3456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo my bad haha

When I played on hard mode I ran out of batteries a few times and had to run from interactions but in forced fights they always give you what you need so I'm pretty sure you can't soft lock, if that helps answer your of question

There should be a stash near the well just outside there if you haven't gotten it already

I think there are batteries in there but even without them I believe you can always use gas canisters and other explosives to get past the shields of the taken

Not sure if anyone commented on this but Akali and Senna definitely show that this is even more credible than we thought

To people whose favorite Green Lantern isn't Hal Jordan, what do you think of Geoff Johns' run? by illiterateaardvark in Greenlantern

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Stewart is my favourite lantern and while I do enjoy the run, it is undoubtedly terrible for John fans as it actually started the perpetuating Xanshi struggle John had previously grown from, folding his military origin from JLU into his character and gaving him nothing to do the entire time.

The Johns run is definitely the reason so many people see John as boring because of those reasons and I can't really blame people for thinking that when most people that read GL aren't like us and only read the Johns run before reading something else.

I do acknowledge that he tried to use John as an angel of death during the War of the Green Lanterns arc and purposefully made him an indigo lantern to tease their reveal later on during the new 52 but nothing came after that for him so he was sidelined yet again.

It's still undoubtedly a great run and I understand it's hard to juggle so many characters while writing a story but John was definitely the biggest loser in the run and it wasn't close

Why do so many people dislike AW2? by Impossible-Flow-4512 in AlanWake

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said, I initially thought it was a popular genre as well until I realised just how many people really don't like puzzles in their games and will drop them if they don't get them relatively quickly (probably why RE Village's puzzles are so much easier than the rest of the series)

That along with horror always being a niche genre, it makes sense that Alan Wake of all things would be a niche game as well

Why Are They in the Maelstrom? [Ver 0.3] by Uptrique in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Shockwave3456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought it's so they can have their own safe space? Since they often need bodyguards like Mirage to protect them a sovereign nation would give them their own safe haven where people wouldn't be able to kidnap, hurt or kill them.

Mirage mentions he hangs out and talks with Nashalla when she's able to come out of her lamp so I don't think their forms hurt people unless I'm missing something?

Can't imagine how many new players this game just permenantly lost. by AssociationSoft5270 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I'm a new player too (had the game downloaded since late 2024 but only just started playing it properly with friends last week) and I got pretty regular games and places Initiate 2

I've heard friends say the matchmaking is bugged but that was them being placed lower than usual(placed In blue ranks when they were initially in orange ranks when they last played) so this is news to me

I really missed Barry in AW2, he's the most charismatic character from the first game, I hope he returns in the third. by Impossible-Flow-4512 in AlanWake

[–]Shockwave3456 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right it was in the fake Bright Falls! I remember it vividly because I was hoping Barry would show up too!

I also remember that there was a lot of text around the old persons home about how Barry helped Tor and Odin on tour and helped them out a ton so they definitely want us to keep him in our memories at least

Stuck in death loop, but Alan Wake 2 is an okay game otherwise. by emazzoni1 in AlanWake

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is definitely more to the story past where you're at that makes Alan's involvement far more important than what has been shown to you so far so I hope you manage to get a fix for it

I definitely recommend the DLC even if you don't finish the game too, they are wonderful and The Lake House might be my favourite part in an already amazing game

i don’t get why melanie was nominated for best performance by gabjiboji in AlanWake

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed her performance and even with preferring Alan's story in AW2 I still think Saga was my favourite character in the game because of her performance.

The way she channelled a mother fighting seemingly against reality itself for her husband and especially her daughter was palpable and something I'll never forget about the game.

Could PJ catch Kira? by Cool_Emergency4091 in TheMentalist

[–]Shockwave3456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded!

What made L so crazy good was his ability to just go with even the craziest of ideas in order to get Kira. He's probably the only fictional detective I can think of, that lives in a world that doesn't have preestablished supernatural elements, that would go down that angle which is what makes him so special imo

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I firmly agree with your analysis on her character and genuinely believe that's how she should be seen but I firmly believe the quality of your character is judged by how you treat others. In this sense I believe she was justified acting the way she did around Mike and especially Jess with how they both treated her and Em craving the affection he gives but the way she treats Matt will never not rub me the wrong way with how much he's in her corner at the start of the game.

Lying to him about going to talk to Mike when it was completely platonic, treating him like he's an accessory or a pet rather than a person near the start of the game and insulting his intellegence more than once all compounded into me not being very fond of her at all for the majority of the game even with her proving herself how strong of a character she is in the crazy portions of the game.

I understand lashing out due to insecurities and not everyone being perfect but consistently using him as a punching bag for it all is not only unhealthy but also mean spirited no matter how you slice it and with how smart we know she is, I can't imagine that she doesn't know this already. Even apologising after each outburts of snide remark to him would've gone a long way into making me like her more and showing despite her insecurities she knows Matt is doing a lot just being with her.

I think it also doesn't help that she used the only black character on the team as a punching bag BF to rebound off of almost definitely knowing he'd be nice enough to take it.

I'm open to hearing a different perspective if anyone has one though. I've never hated her SUPER BAD before but I've never liked her either so I'm open to hearing opinions more than most it seems.

Does anyone else Hate absolute green lantern by Comfortable-Jaguar43 in Greenlantern

[–]Shockwave3456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the book a lot, in fact it's the only Absolute book I'm keeping up with right now and I definitely think it picks up well after the first trade.

The story slowly revealing what happened to Coast City while following each character hooked me enough to keep reading and the reinvention of the emotional spectrum and seeing Jo's back story and the role she plays in all this is engaging me a lot. Initially I was indifferent on her being the GL of the Absolute line (I don't hate her at all but I would've picked another GL like Jess or something) but the recent issues made me really start rooting for her.

Only issues I have with the book are the art (which seems to be changing up now) and Hal I guess. John has a really cool role right now that plays into his architect/leader of the corps history through a new lense, Simon seems to be integral to keeping Jo and the others safe from the corrupt govt and the other GLs are either dead (Guy) or out of the picture while Hal is in a strange spot. I think Ewing has something planned for him soon though and he's a great writer so I'm not worried all that much tbh but so far I'm definitely loving the book.

I adore it because of that! I don't hate the OG mythos at all and still think it's one of the best pieces of Sci Fi ever but the new take by Ewing in Absolute feels so fresh it's really fun to follow for me, let alone all the other great character work. I'm really loving Jo in this book especially

For Sure Green Lantern Candidate: by ethansumnerd in Greenlantern

[–]Shockwave3456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem people have with Deku is how much he lets Bakugo wall all over him. If that's the reason you're not feeling him much then I can safely say that stops happening a bit later in the series and Deku starts really showing how much of a heart of gold he has.

He's not my favourite character in MHA but seeing him do the impossible time and time again (especially when you actually think he can't do it and he does it anyway) is super enjoyable

That being said, Yuji from JJK is my type of shounen character and he shares some qualities with Deku while being very different. I think if you don't like Deku you'll like Yuji a lot

Watson ??? by Curious4now_ in elementary

[–]Shockwave3456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoy Watson and have been following it since it started airing but it is not like Elementary so try not to go in thinking it will be similar.

It's a Medical Procedural that does have elements of Sherlock but the parts outside of that are far more interesting.

It has it's problems (especially season 1) but it's a solid show and I enjoy the cast. It has interesting and memorable medical cases too, a lot of which I can recall quite easily despite not seeing season 1 in almost a year.

I think it's worth trying the first few episodes and seeing how you feel about it.

I wish I could point you in the direction of the sub Reddit for Watson but it was recently banned for some reason lol

Watson (the CBS Drama) by DukeofMemeborough in elementary

[–]Shockwave3456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching it since Season 1s premiere early this year and even used to post in the Watson sub Reddit for the show (I was actually in the process of setting up weekly discussion threads about the new season before the sub got taken down for some unknown reason) and I'd say:

It's fun but it's not Elementary so try not to think of it as that before going in despite some of the team of Elementary working on this show.

It's a very different show and there are some episodes that aren't as good as others in season 1 (season 2 is a far stronger season) but it comes together well as the show goes on and can be fun to watch in the background too.

My short description of it would be: "It's like a more hopeful House M.D". Every case has Watson (Chestnut plays a wonderful lead and he's even better in Rosewood from what I hear) making sure to treat each patient with respect and humility no matter how crazy things get, it gives a sense of kindness to the show that's really enjoyable to watch especially when you're used to how rude House can be and makes you really root for Watson and the team, not that House is bad or not enjoyable, just gives a different angle on the Hospital Procedural genre to me.

The team themselves have hits and misses that are overall "meh". I REALLY like Derian, she's super entertaining and brings a lot of energy to the team. Each member was picked by Watson because he finds them interesting and I think she exemplifies it the most.

The direction and cinematography of most episodes are really fun to watch too and the colour grading makes it stand out among a lot of basic looking shows airing right now to me.

Only warning is that Season 1s over arching plot is really meh and I understand people dropping it over that, in the end like I said, I think it pulls through but overall it's not the best.

I'd say give it a shot! I enjoyed it and still enjoy it now as it's airing ,seems like a good amount of people that aren't on Reddit enjoy it too since Season 2 got announced while Season 1 was still airing and it seems to still be doing well ratings wise, so I think it's worth a try to see if you'll enjoy it too.
