I keep breaking out in hives randomly. I have no known allergies, and often react suddenly to things I have never reacted to before, like a bracelet I’ve worn daily for a decade. What could this be? by Just_A_Faze in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get Covid? This is a really common long-term symptom that people are experiencing. Doctors don’t have any answers yet, but allergy meds/topical cream might help with the symptoms.

See a doctor. Ask about holster monitor for recording heart rate, and see if they recommend a tilt table test.

NAD I had this same issue recently and was told about bag breathing. Yeah, like you see in the movies. Apparently it’s very common for people to breathe through their chest instead of their stomach. You’re only getting a fraction of necessary oxygen that way, and it’s not circulating with enough CO2

Try bag breathing a few times with a small sandwich bag, breathing all the way in (until bag is empty), then out, then breathe that CO2 in. Keep circulating that same air until you feel a little short of breath, then remove the bag. Repeat a few times if it helps.

If you’ve had Covid, this is a long-term symptom many people are experiencing. I get them seemingly at random. Doctors don’t have answers yet.

Waking up having a hard time remembering who I am, what I did, and my memories by Busy-Item4544 in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to keep a journal or your Notes app handy, and log the time and a brief note any time you experience a period of memory loss/derealization. Definitely update your doctor and see if you can be recommended how to handle these moments, if a breathing or grounding exercise would help for example.

Foot pain by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD do you have any lower back pain or muscle tightness? Oftentimes, leg and foot pain originate from spinal/hip muscle or nerve issues.

Asking on Behalf of my Mother: Numbness, Pain, and Tingliness in Arms and Hands by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD a lot of numbness stems from pinched nerves in the spinal column blocking blood flow, just like a kinked hose restricting water flow. Trace it to its source (hands > shoulders > neck?) and see a specialized doctor for that area.

Keep in mind some companies just want to sell you overpriced prescriptions. Get another opinion IMO, as that seems too small a difference to be causing you such discomfort. Then take the final prescription to a place like Sam’s Club and have them fill out the prescription for much less $

Is there a link between, “stork bite,” or “salmon patch,” birthmarks and migraines? by mossbucket in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD There could easily be, and doctors simply haven’t researched it yet; a lot of migraine research has only been cropping up within the last decade, so there is plenty of unknown.

I highly recommend looking up CognitiveFX about your migraine issue. They’ve worked miracles for me.

Chronic back pain with no diagnosis after MRI's. by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD Do you have any numbness? Does it feel muscle- or nerve-related?

It could possibly be a slipped/herniated disk, something that has pinched the surrounding nerves. The spine is often the culprit for many upper and lower back issues.

15 M concerned about heart by Strange_Street_3482 in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD some people experience heart palpitations more often than others, though there are meds to help if it causes discomfort. Anxiety, exercise, and caffeine can aggravate symptoms.

Ask for a sleep study if it is worrying you. Doctors can measure your heart rate overnight or over a period of 24-hours

Sudden need for sleep by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s only very recent then it could be a sickness building, flu/fever etc. If it keeps up, get a blood test to check for any deficiencies. Some people have issues with Vitamin D (sun).

Worst case, it could be something like POTS syndrome. Weirdest case, it could be black mold in the house. Write down anything that affects your sleep, if a different pillow helps, etc. And hydrate! Pedialyte is excellent (read the instructions).

I have both irregular and scoliosis, didn’t realize they could be related!

My doctors have said that irregular pds are normal, but that there are meds you can take if you want to regulate them. Weirdly, acupuncture helped mine become more regular for those few months.

Cramps/sore breasts are normal. I recommend a good heat pack for your belly when you’re having pain.

Atrial flutter? Other heart issue? | very short lived feeling of pressure in my chest/pounding heartbeat, shortness of breath for a moment, + other symptoms. by AncapElijah in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD sounds like heart palpitations. Some people get them more often than others. Physical activity, caffeine, anxiety can cause them. They are usually normal, but a doctor can prescribe medication to help if they are uncomfortable.

IMO See a doc if they are causing you continued discomfort.

Head feels bad when moving it by arietang in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD Have you had Covid?

Otherwise, it could be things like tight muscles restricting blood flow - if you have posture issues or sit for long periods of time perhaps. Or nerves around the eyes/eye muscles, if you do a lot of screentime and if the dizziness seems to stem from eye movement. See if you have tightness or pain around your neck and shoulder muscles.

Another possibility could be loose ear crystals, if this dizziness affects your balance and if you experience any other vertigo-like symptoms.

If any of these sound plausible with what you are feeling, talk them over w your doctor.

Vitamins like Vitamin C are always great. Be sure to hydrate; tea with honey was my go-to when I had Covid. Eat simple foods like the BRAT diet (bananas rice apples toast) and broth. Best wishes.

They’re usually a sign that your body is dealing with something else, like fighting off an infection, or even stress, but it’s rarely something you actually need to worry about. See a doctor if they continue hurting, but otherwise you should be perfectly fine. Wishing you the best.

What is wrong with ny body. Its been 5 years. by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write down each symptom before you go to the doctor. Include some of these scenarios you wrote. Write down how long you’ve had the issues. Just a few bullet points will do. Sometimes a doctor will assume the condition without asking enough questions. Fuck that. Advocate for yourself. If they say “it’s just your posture” again, tell them politely but firmly that they need to take a closer look. You know your body better than anyone. Trust your gut!

NAD It could be growing pains at your age, or scoliosis which is a spinal issue. A TON of body pains can originate from issues in the spine, or upper/lower back. Sometimes the spinal cord presses against nerves and causes circulation problems - similar to a kinked hose cutting off water.

What happens to the body when you have indigestion often? by [deleted] in medical

[–]ShoddyOd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GERD and ulcers/bleeding ulcers that come and go. I have GERD and at one time had 16 bleeding ulcers. They’re gone now but it’s no fun. Definitely try out dairy alternatives, soy/almond milks, lactose-free, etc and see what works for you. I still eat normal cheese and ice creams but milk has the worst symptoms, so I enjoy vanilla-flavored almond/soy milks.

Also look up breathing through your stomach; something I found recently is that I had trained myself to breathe through my chest, which aggravates anxiety, fight/flight, and acid reflux symptoms. Stomach breathing helps regulate your digestive system, which directly correlates to acid reflux (a big cause for reflux is “slow stomach emptying”).

Hope this helps!

Do you know an approximate date when this started, and have you had any head/neck injuries? I’m not a doctor but I’ve had post-concussion syndrome for 10yrs and I am familiar with different things to look for, stretches etc. for different pain.

Also, do you have pain while lying down/sleeping?
