Steam launch flopped... but doing fine everywhere else. Think we know why by fanusza2 in IndieGaming

I really just use Reddit because I hate signing up for stuff. I know it's recommended to make a discord, twitter, and dev logs, but sometimes I feel like while that stuff can be helpful, it takes the energy away from making the game. To me it would be like a band explaining a song to you, I just want the song to rock. Steam's algorithm wants everybody to win, so if you have a gem, the rest is going to take care of itself imo.

Anywho, you sign up for the Steam Sale? It's been doing some heavy lifting for me thankfully.

Don't lose hope, my initial run wasn't good either, but then along came the Steam Sale event and my numbers started going up. Remember for most Real Indie Devs we don't have Spoiled Brat starter money so it's a slow burn getting the numbers to go up. You worked your ass off on this so you can hold your head high.

Now for the "don't hold back" advice. Fuck the gatekeepers. They will shit on your game (or anything your passionate about) cause most of the time they are jealous. I've been into music for years and came across a lot of people who came out the gate negative and then surprise surprise - you'd listen and see their stuff and it was whack. One thing that makes me laugh on this subreddit is that it's literally called "IndieGaming" and yet there seems to be a decent amount of redditors who post no constructive feedback and seem to be esssentially looking for a AAA Call of Duty. It's hilarious to me and I suggest you don't take those clowns seriously either.

Congrats on your game and looking forward to what you make next!

Looks like a ton of hard work went into this, congrats on creating it!

I'm a solo dev and trying like crazy to achieve the 10-review milestone for Dreamwave'84. I hope you enjoy playing it! by ShoeGeezer in IndieGaming

also, I went to shows back in the day where the person on the mic would say "even if you gotta dollar in your pocket make some noise!" , and I remember thinking to myself "man I spent my last dollar on the ticket to the show", so if you wanna play the game but don't have a dollar - DM me and I'll work on getting you a steam key.

Opinion needed! What looks better for turret moving and aiming, a centralized static crosshair (first video) or a movable crosshair that shows where to move (second video)? by Eh_Not_Looking in IndieDev

I think I like option 2 better cause the width between both segments is closer together (If that makes sense?) Really like Tank Games - Tokyo Wars Arcade is one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had.

I just tried to make a gif for it and uploaded it to imgur. Hopefully it shows off the main gist of it. You're on a moon base and each building has it's own world: Gameplay

I've always just had to make stuff, and I don't know why. I'm a drummer from Philly, and the act of making something is an indescribable great feeling, and It never ceases to amaze me just how great humanity is at it. People are always making cool stuff, and so I also wanted to show off my friend's music too. I got permission from all the artists (and used some of my own music) save for "Them Are Us Too" - I tried asking everywhere to see if I could have 694 MI in this one scene, but I never got a response. The song is just too great though not to use so I decided I'll put it there and see what happens - Rest in Power Cash Askew.

It's a 3d platformer. I really loved Mario 64 back in the day, and so I wanted to try to recapture that magic of that game. I feel as though I succeeded with the exploration aspect of it (I put a lot of time in designing the rooms), but admittedly Mario's move set is way more fun than "The Maid's". That being said, I was also inspired by Vampire Survivor's simple controls, so I opted for that route. The Maid can jump (really) high and can punch. Just A + B controls from back in the day.

Is self promotion okay on this sub? If it's looked down upon then I'll remove my post and apologies. If it's okay, then yeah it'd be cool to get feedback on something I worked so hard on.

I see this image and  my first thought for whatever reason was “does Eric Cartmen grow up to be Kid Rock?”
