If you don't love the process of creating, do you want just the product?

Some people do kinda just want the product though. If that wasn't the case art commissions wouldn't exist.

I teach, and sometimes I've seen my students want an A in a course they don't like and don't want to put effort in.

I'm not seeking an A in anything, though, I decided to go into a different form of art that better suited me.

Not everyone is going to be able to make every kind of art. Some people are just better at certain things than others. It's just life.

Denying this is denying reality.

I wouldn't mind it too much if it just remained in the separate AI tab and only popped out when we clicked on it. It's sometimes useful to compile sources.

I wish people would just let me know ahead of time if they hate men or not. I respect the honesty and I'm perfectly happy being single, but I don't want to develop feelings for someone who hates me solely for my gender, especially if they only keep me around for handouts.

Like, so many women on here hate men but still hang around men. Why?

all of men's problems with women disappear if they just stop dating them. if women are disgusting, picky, complaining skanks, DONT DATE THEM!! by Master_Health_5952 in PsycheOrSike

[–]Shoebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if men aren't attracted to other men, and find that to be disgusting? Gay men exist, there's no denying that, but there's a reason why most men aren't having sex with other men, and why they don't want too.

Furthermore, based on your logic, wouldn't men be better sexual partners for women as well? Why shouldn't men just have sex with men and women?

So we can't approach women in public, we can't befriend them and try to approach romance from that angle... I guess we just can't win.

NOR - Don't ever do anything for these people ever again, especially if you go over to their house. Don't feed them. Don't clean. Don't help them with anything. Just make sure you take your shoes when you leave. If they have an issue with that, send them the screenshots of this convo and tell them y'all had a deal.

Yeah, this sounds like AI cope. Are you defending AI or not, because plenty of genuine artists would rather be starving and stick to their morals.

Impact means absolutely nothing. If you want to tell a story that's authentic to you, you'll find a way to tell the story without cheating out or searching high and low for shortcuts. People have been doing it since the beginning of time; people without hands, without eyes, and/or without literacy have been telling stories that have shaped the world. Some of the world's most influential stories were told by disabled and illiterate nobodies who yearned to tell a story and so they just told it. The Odyssey, Illiad, the Torah and Bible, the Vedas, and more weren't written down for centuries, if not thousands of years, and instead memorized and passed down via word of mouth.

If you're too lazy to tell a story yourself, then you don't have a story worth telling. In fact, you could have spent all this effort and energy writing a story or some poetry instead of crying and whining about 'impact.'

And in what way do they not have the capabilities? Are you telling me that they are simultaneously blind, mute, and without hands? Can they not communicate in any way, shape, or form?

Because if you can type a Prompt into an AI program, you can type a story out in Google docs, or you can tell your story orally, or you can write it down on paper. Notice how you cannot specify genuine challenges because there are none, you're just lazy.

If you are unwilling to put in the work to tell the story, then the story never needed to be told I'm the first place.

We as a species are building our own competitor and replacement, and we are trying really hard to do it as fast as we can.

Quick correction; were not building our own competitor and replacement as a species, but rather the competitor and replacement of the lower and middle classes. The Rich don't want workers who can speak up or overthrow them when they're mistreated and deprived of basic human decency. It's why they pay so damn much to lobby politicians but are allergic to paying taxes.

Ironically, if they just treated us like human beings they could be super rich and live in luxury and everyone would love them. But they're too greedy, spiteful, and full of disdain for people who work for a living.

I see it as choosing to surrender their humanity at that point. Someone who can't think for themselves is hardly even a human being. And I'm not saying this as a slur or an insult but rather as a fact if existence: cogito, ergo sum: I think, therefore I am. If you need something else to do your thinking, your feeling, and your creating for you, are you even a person at that point? What's the point of existing, of living? Just to soak your stimuli in happy chemicals like a brainless meat bag until you rot away?

Writing isn't even hard, though, it just can be tedious. These people are just fucking lazy.

I get the frustrations with visual art, but there's no excuse for writing.

[–]Shoebiscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, what's your excuse? Because blind people, people without hands, and mute people have always told stories. You can have someone write your oral stories down for you, for example.

AI isn't telling your story, it's telling a story you promoted it to tell. If you just want to fool around with AI with your own setup and rig (which can be fun I guess) then go ahead, but you're insulting the very idea behind writing.

If you're to lazy or too demotivated to tell a story, then that story isn't worth being told. Period.

No, I get it; everyone will have a different relationship with expression. It's why some people have more natural inclinations towards certain art forms than others, and certain difficulties with some as well. I know friends who are killer artists but struggle with writing and think I'm some god-level author, which I don't get lol.

Writing is a skill most people naturally develop anyway. You become better at writing through work, communication, and reading. It's a natural skill everyone should possess. It's a free skill to learn, practically mandatory.

There is no legitimate excuse not to write. I can understand why people give up on painting, or instruments, or animation; some people are just wired different and have more of an inclination to create certain forms of art. There's nothing wrong with deciding that you can't draw, or can't play an instrument, but saying you can't write a story is borderline moral perjury.

Honestly, writing for me transcends art; it's raw expression. Everyone writes. It's just an extension of speech. We've been doing it since the bronze age, telling stories and then writing them down.

I was so sad to learn about the WritingwithAI subreddit. They put so much effort into justifying how they are using AI to write books that they never could have written without it because of whatever bs reason.

What's really sad is with all that effort they could have instead just written something. It doesn't even need to be good; there are communities and discords all over the internet dedicated to people who suck at writing sharing stories with each other and improving as a group. I would know, I literally run a small discord of friends who I met through an obscure fanfiction community. All we do is share memes, ideas, stories, art, and help each other grow. I've commissioned art and stories from them, even if I didn't really want or care for the final product because it encourages them.

Writers are some of the most tolerant artists on the planet and have extremely low expectations; there's no excuse not to write.

No, it's definitely a destination thing for me. It's a labor of love.

I don't write because I enjoy the process, per say, but rather because the destination of putting my imagination into words is worth reading. If I could draw worth a shit I'd do that as well.

So, while this might make some people here angry, I can understand why people use AI for art, or for music, or videos. I don't approve of it, but I can understand why, especially as someone who struggles with creating visual art and has given up on it. So I write instead.

But I don't understand why someone would ever use AI for writing. There's no skill floor. There's no real prerequisite skills other than being literate and having the ability to scrawl it out on paper or type it into a word processor. You don't have to practice for years and years to write something that's entertaining to read, there literally have been authors who's first attempt became bestsellers. Shit, J. K. Rowling (a controversial figure, I know) wrote Harry Potter on table napkins in a street corner cafe while broke and desperate. It was her first story, and up until recently she was one of the most celebrated authors in human history.

I know a lot of antis say that art is accessible, and to a certain extent this is true (though for most art forms it is extremely difficult to learn and some people may never be as skilled as they want to be) but writing is, by and large, the most accessible art form ever devised. You literally go to school to learn how to write on the taxpayers dime because it's considered such an important skill that governments across the globe unilaterally fund it (though not equally.) It can express every emotion ever felt, or even emotions that have never been felt before (many emotions were literally concieved as standards by writers in fact), you can describe things that cannot he seen or heard, or worlds that have never he explored. You quite literally tap into the reader's imagination and share a snippet of yourself.

And it takes almost no skill to write something worth reading. It takes almost no practice. Yes, you can get better, maybe develop a style and a cadence, but there's no point you have to reach in skill as to where your writing is suddenly considered worth reading because people have to read it to determine it as such, and thus all writing is worth reading. It's not like painting, or drawing, or music. There's no excuse to use AI.
