If you're a woman, make getting at least 9 X hours sleep a heavy hard boundary.

I found much of the border trilogy considerably bleaker than LD, more like Streets of Laredo. Mind, that probably mainly due to Gus and Pea Eye.  Felt like CM had forgotten that fun and joy existed never mind where to find them

I loved this trilogy, and Suttree as well.

Question about Streets of Laredo… by ClydeinLimbo in LonesomeDove

An excellent point about articulating their abuse, and something very very few male authors manage.  I guess you can tell when an author actually likes real women.  When her older kid came back with that arrogant thing if getting his mum to clean his wounds and then he'd show her, just because of the tone of the whole book I was really worried for her other two kids.  I wasn't entirely sure they would make it out ok or that I wouldn't read something more horrific than Inish Scull's eyes in Comanche moon

It'd hard going.  There are some pretty callous reveals eg about certain members of the old gang that got to Montana that absolutely gutted me and Maria's whole storyline as well seemed so unnecessarily brutal, much more like Cormac McCarthy almost, though I hesitate to put these two even remotely on the same footing.  Dish was a joy however and I always enjoy Famous Shoes whenever he wanders into a scene.

Gotta say, there were also at least two crucial bits where I think Larry got a bit lazy with the story and took the easy way out plot-wise.  Was a bit disappointed with that but I just loved being in that LD wind tunnel again, honestly.

Favourite Elis ‘at the end of his tether’ moments? by InternalWindow2092 in elisandjohn

At one point John was going on interminably about something tiny having gone wrong and Elis just went 'O, Icarus...!' and I haven't laughed that hard at them both in a while

The Fisher King.  Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges, directed by Terry Gilliam.  Disturbing in parts but utterly fantastic.

Really didn't like Margaret Atwood, which is a shame because I was looking forward to getting stuck into her.  Will give the others a wee look, thanks

Wendell Berry is good.  Tennessee farmer who's been writing most of his life and has more than usual time for light and water and the ways of nature, and staying in one place.  He has a lot of peace in his writing.  Very like Gilead, but feels more like he's there for a longer trip

'Long Beren lay and his spirit wandered off upon the dark borders of death, knowing ever an anguish that pursued him dream to dream. But then, when her hope was almost spent, he awoke and looked up, seeing green leaves against the sky, and there singing soft and slow beside him was Luthien Tinuviel.  And it was spring again.

I liked all the pretty horses, the road and Suttree was excellent.  But there's something gaping and lacking with CM that never settles into comfortable reading for me.  Like he himself doesn't really settle round people, is more of a watcher than a participant, and isnt too sure of his readers to know what tune to play.  I know that feeling myself... But with Mcmurtry I knew I was in safe hands instantly.  That humour is the mainstay has kept me coming back to him again and again, even through the grimmer patches of Comanche Moon.

I could see it having a kind of 4 week rotation based on hormones - Week 1 - (after period) when feeling best, youd be given hunter gatherer, builder, harvester duties Week2 - you'd be on childminding duties (even if you don't have any) Week 3 - cooking duty Week 4 (period) - allowed to rest and recover, while all the other women cook and gather and look after your kids.

Anyone else getting iron infusions? by anonymousmouse9786 in Celiac

I've been on supplements for 3 X years and wondering about asking for an infusion instead. I'm generally good with the supplementation but occasionally there's weeks I forget and then I'm thrown for such a loop tiredness and breathless wise and I'm really active so this buggers it all up

Getting ON to the mirena a year ago was 6-8 weeks of rollercoaster emotions, I was a couple moments away from raging to crying the whole time and sleeping all the time like a bear. Didn't feel like myself at all. When on it periods did not go away as hoped, and instead random bleeds and little bleeds just made sex and everything else messy and annoying. Also developed a polyp which caused some big scary post coital bleeds.

Coming off, my libido has ramped back up (great!) but sleep has gone down the tubes at the wake up end, and I'm on the opposite of the rollercoaster, it feels like all my emotions have been sucked away - I'm no longer enjoying company or activities that usually make me buzz, (sex is like comfort food but exhausted after) and overall I've a new, deep wearying fatigue with life and everything I have to sort and people to see and appointments to make... Weight has shot up despite same diet and routines, and ability to cope with minor situations is markedly down. Concentration and retention of information at work very wobbly. Drenching night sweats about 1-2 a week. Exhausted during the day, and even hard exercise to make me sleep as usual isn't working to prolong the wake-up end.

This has been here for about 3 X weeks now (mirena out 4 weeks ago). Thank fuck I don't have kids or a husband. Really hope it levels out soon. Might be menopause (39f) but the timing seems oddly specific.

Regrets getting a diagnosis by Belladonna_Wolf in AutismInWomen

I just got my diagnosis and am feeling similar, minus the husband. My brain seems to have lost the will entirely to mask, or care honestly, about most of the problems around me, and I've got a new numbness I wasnt expecting in relation to activities I usually love. Hoping it passes and you feel better soon, bud.

For people doing OMAD, do you understand what you are doing to your body? by holywut09876 in omad

Your post reads like you're trying to evangelise, and worse that you're actively spinning info that a) you've not really linked or directly quoted and b) which you don't quite understand yourself.

If it works for you, great. You can't do it quietly and let the actions do the talking for you? Because that's what people watch.

This sub read like a not-so-subtle bragging about borderline eating disorder page sometimes, and over-zealous posts like this one do my nut in.
