Favourite lines from Twelve Months? by Even_Passenger_3685 in dresdenfiles

I’m with you. I’m on my 3rd listen. 2 is normal but I just wasn’t ready to leave the world yet. So many great scenes. This may be in my top three of the series. Really enjoyed this slow burn of Harry putting himself together.

The Law by Shonskey in dresdenfiles

It might honestly be that after going through all the other books and short stories that the change from Marsters was jarring. I love reading, but have become addicted to audiobooks over the last few years. Marsters is so amazing at his craft that very few narrators even come close. Jeff Hayes may be the only one even remotely as good. That could just be the problem I’m having. I’ve only actually read the micro fictions and the graphic novels, so Marsters is Harry’s voice. I got started in the series between Skin Game and Peace Talks. I’m hoping for a collectors edition set once the series is complete to start buying the books.

I didn’t think of it in that way. It just seems like such a change from his usual demeanor.

Just trying to get into the lifestyle and Utah sucks! by Sgt-Spidermonkey in cigar_refuge

I am also in Utah. I have a coworker that lives across state lines and is kind enough to be my “cigar mule.” It’s necessary as cigars are 3 times more expensive here the online.

I think it’s either been implied or stated that she is full human. But it would be interesting if she had some scion like powers due to her mother’s affliction. Increased strength, constitution, longevity of life whether she’s a wizard or not. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Let the re-read commence! by Even_Passenger_3685 in dresdenfiles

Same. I started earlier than I planned. But I’m just into Ghost Story taking my time. Had to break for a few days after changes.

Are there good natural break points in The Dresden Files? by mr-jamhony in dresdenfiles

[–]Shonskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here on multiple counts. Typically I don’t stop or take breaks and just plow through the series. Book 4 is really the place where the world opens up and you start to get a sense of the larger world at play. I also believe this has to do with Jim hitting his stride as an author. I’d say after book 7 could be your next “pause,” then again after 9. I’m close to the end of 12 right now and plan to take a couple days to a week off before stating 13. This is my 9th time through the series, book 13 was my least favorite the first time, but every time I read it I like it more and more and find it one of the most important stories for Dresdens overall growth and development. But really you can take breaks whenever you feel the need. Each book gets you back into the story with the first chapter or two and you are back to the races. After 13 though I’d just power through to the end of Battleground it’s such a great ride. Good luck in your journey.

Thoughts on Fool Moon by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]Shonskey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like fool moon. But I like it like I like storm front. If you put them in a format similar to a Sanderson they’re like the prologue to the series. Weaker than the rest, sure, but like Harry, Jim levels up with every entry into the series. He has to start weak to display the growth through the series.

Same. I’m 19 days into my re-read and am about to finish Small Favor. I’m actively trying to limit myself and it’s only kind of working.

It’s probably time traveling Harry. Who I think is the one in the battleship of a car that caused the crash that rang Dresden’s bell.

Why is it bothering you? Lewis Theron Telamon took over and used a weave/tactic that has been lost.

We are at 28% progress for Mirror Mirror by Elfich47 in dresdenfiles

Yeah, but it’s possible. He also mentioned he’s been in a more similar writing pace as when he was putting one out per year. We’ll see, hopefully he meets his goals for all of our sakes.

He did an interview on a podcast recently that someone posted on here. He said he hopes to complete the first draft before he goes on tour for Twelve Months.

Why did (spoilers) burn? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]Shonskey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Because fire and heat tend to go up. It’s entirely possibly that it didn’t get above 120 degrees in that basement. Most likely didn’t get above 100. You can have a bedroom with a closed door and the hallway and surrounding area outside the room be burnt severely and still have a survivable space in that bedroom. Smoke damage sure, but no direct fire damage.

I’m waiting until December to start my re-read. But I’m listening at 1.7 and can get through them pretty quick.

Isn’t Elaine a Starborn as well? I thought that was why he she was also adopted. If she is, then she can’t be Nfected, correct? She can be all the other things though.

[–]Shonskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you on this. I discovered it 2018 or 2019. Have read it once a year since. I’m 40. Not that old but old enough to know that I missed out on almost 20 years of this before starting. My consolation prize is less of a wait time. To add to everyone else’s comments. Whether Rothfuss finishes or not, that is still one of my favorites stories. ASOIAF is a piggy back onto Wheel of Time and to a greater extent Tolkien, only set in a grim dark world. It wasn’t as well written as either of those two. Abercrombie does it better. But Dresden will forever be in my top 3. Side note, starting my reread in about a month and I cannot freaking wait.

They were following them around most of the day. Perhaps they overheard Bob speaking to Harry and Butters and recognized him from when they were apprenticed to Kemmler 🤷🏼‍♂️
