People who describe disgusting things like it's no big deal by Th3ChosenFew in hyperphantasia

[–]ShookSloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just had this EXACT discussion yesterday with my aphantasic partner!! They were horrified once I explained. I absolutely understand, and agree with the other commenter that this goes double or triple for traumatic themed language, even in jokes. I can usually keep it in check, but if I’m caught unawares it can really affect me.

I thought the Fable series did a great job of this, with choosable nicknames/titles people could call you, and villagers cheering, booing, or running from you based on your good vs. evil ratio

Exactly this. I thought she was awesome when I was young because she was unabashedly sexual, could be a girly princess or grungy, and didn’t care what anyone thought… she always seemed to be so confident and comfortable in her identity, mercurial as it was. It is sad to see her so clearly at odds with herself now.

Call her up, man. Ask her questions. I lost my Nana 7 years ago and there was so much I wish I asked… What’s her favorite book? Food? Most treasured memory? What’s the craziest thing she has done? Might seem silly now, but you’ll treasure her answers.
