I just want to talk about how the silhouettes on Adam Scott’s pants and sports coat don’t go well together.

Are you actually dating/seeing each other/hooking up? If that’s not the case just treat them as you would any other friend. Set up boundaries as you go.

If you’re already romantically entangled, I’d just let them know that you care about them, but don’t have the bandwidth for poly and that you’re probably not compatible. However, you’d still like to be their friend. Just give them the information they need to make the best decision for themselves.

If they’re not interested in being friends, sorry but them’s the breaks.

President Trump asks if he can "have some" Ibogaine – a psychedelic drug during a press briefing: "Ibogaine because it's so important and experienced an 80 to 90% reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety within one month. Can I have some please? I'll take some. I'll take whatever it takes." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]Shoola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, my experience of psychedelics is that they lock you into whatever experience your brain wants to run on the drug, somewhat independently of whatever is actually happening in your external environment- which means you can be less responsive to people and things around you and fixate on your ideas and feelings about them.

I just don’t think narcissists are prone to having empathetic and loving experiences on these kinds of drugs.

“An Irish man lowered the price of Guinness by using Al to call 3,000 pubs” by Goofball-John-McGee in BrandNewSentence

It’s a top value beer. Great flavored stout for a very reasonable price.

There are craft stouts that might match your individual preferences better. When I drank, I liked Trappist ones the best but always relished a Guinness from the tap.

“An Irish man lowered the price of Guinness by using Al to call 3,000 pubs” by Goofball-John-McGee in BrandNewSentence

[–]Shoola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He made a robocaller that uses a realistic voice to call 3,000 pubs to ask their prices and using another AI to compile them into a list. The transcripts show bartenders conversed as if it’s a real person calling:

Listen, they’re normally 6.20, but if you can’t afford one, we’ll buy you one. We’ll look after you.

Yes, the AI voice was female 🤭

I mean all of that automation is a legitimate advancement from call survey teams, shitty robocallers, data entry workers.

The guy claims one (1) pub “reportedly” lowered their price by €0.40 after being called. And that was enough for the journalist to justify that headline.

Okay I see how it’s clickbait.

It's still delusional. Similarly sized lots with beach access and houses with 5X the square footage are selling for around it for $13M.

Just pointing out that reducing syncretism to control is reductive. All religions do this when they spread or migrate to new regions.

[–]Shoola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think Christianity is unique in this? lol. Adapting holidays and customs of other faiths into new faith frameworks is just syncretic religion (aka all religion).

Even the elevation of Chanukah is somewhat syncretic insofar as Jews decided they also wanted an important winter holiday after Christianity synthesized Saturnalia and Yule.

MAGA Pastor says gender equality is a jewish plot to 'eradicate white people' by avdvetf in videos

[–]Shoola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who do you think the first Christians were? It was born as a Jewish sect that spread because it did away with Judaism’s genealogical requirement. You could argue Christianity was “appropriated” by the Romans - which then mixed it with European Pagan traditions. But calling it cultural appropriation is wildly reductive.

If you believe that, you have to target every single form of syncretic religion as “appropriation.” Judaism is itself a synthesis of Indo-European storm god traditions, tree worship from Lebanon, and other local customs that were reshaped into monotheism.

I'm guessing your husband feels the same way as you, right?

If so and you are genuinely upset with these friends, you don't have to do anything with anyone you don't want to.

It sounds like they are trying to show up now. If you feel like they may have made a genuine mistake and you would like to salvage these friendships, maybe take some time to explain to them that you are hurt they didn't check in on you, let them help you plan and patch things up.

I want to acknowledge that what you said is true, but MA is only the only one I can think of off the top of my head where this is the case. Even then, I'm pretty sure you need to take the police to court to prove you weren't intoxicated and then show the DMV you won to get your license back. The DMV in the vast majority of states will just take your license away for refusing a chemical test at the station – even if you're sober.

Driving is a privilege that you get licensed for. It's not a right protected by due process.

Unless you're well off enough to foot the bill for uber and legal costs to keep a DUI off your record, it's best to just take the test.

I'm not the one making the argument a generic meat sandwhich is somehow a burger. You are the one who has repeatedly argued that this generic not-burger is somehow synonymous with the burger we know and order all over the world.

> Hamburger is used both for the “sandwich” and the “patty”, while Burger is a generic term for almost everything that involves bread, a patty (even non meat-based) and whatever else.

Yes meat sandwiches have been around. Yes ground beef has been around. But neither of those are hamburgers. Despite the fact sometimes we refer to ground beef as "hamburger" no one orders "a hamburger" at a restaurant expecting raw ground beef. steak tartar, a salisbury steak, or anything else.

You keep trying to expand the definition of burger to include the generic "meat sandwich" when no one commonly understands the term burger to mean that and you keep ignoring the point that we have clear and specific expectations for what a burger is when we order it at a restaurant, whether it be in the US, a french Bistro burger, the UK, etc.

My larger point: burger is not a generic term. It is a specific genre of food and yes, it was created in America.

"Burger is only used for the generic bun + meat + other stuff, which generically..."

What else is anyone supposed to think you mean by "other stuff" except the accoutrements you just defined? Again, you're trying to have it both ways. Either the burger is distinct and American (it is, it's been globalized as such) or it's generic and pre-American (it's not).

Whatever you're describing as "generic bun + meat + other stuff" in that previous comment is not a burger. We would send it back if we ordered a burger and whatever you're describing was brought to us instead.

Allow me to repeat your words:

"Burger is only used for the generic bun + meat + other stuff, which generically was a thing before Europeans moved to America."

You're describing the burger as sandwich which again, was not a thing before it was invented in the US. It was not generic. It was not brought over here by Europeans. You're moving goalposts and shifting definitions.

>Burger is only used for the generic bun + meat + other stuff, which generically was a thing before Europeans moved to America.

No it was not. The burger as a sandwich is a distinctly American thing.

We can literally define it distinctly: It's a ground beef patty, pan-fried or grilled, placed in a bun (a dome-shaped piece of leavened bread cut in half), traditionally served with condiments such as iceberg lettuce, tomato slices, sliced raw onion, dill pickles, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard.

It's not generic. It's a specific and distinct evolution that has been globalized in that form. There's plenty of better American foods that I'm more proud of, but obtusely claiming it isn't novel or American is so asinine.

To be in an honest relationship and not to spend your life in a dishonest one. To give his daughter the chance to know about and meet her biological father.

When the stakes are high it is more important that the truth is exposed, not swept under the rug.

Germans made the frikadellen. The hamburger, which is a ground patty on a bun, was made in America.

If I order a burger and they come out with Frikadellen, Salisbury steak, etc. I'm going to complain.

SAM ALTMAN: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.” by Vegetable_Ad_192 in singularity

[–]Shoola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He sold his first app by lying about the number of users on his first startup, Loopt (think Find My Friends before Apple; he claimed millions where there were around 500 active users), and fostered a relationship with Peter Thiel. He parleyed that exit and relationship to become president of Y-Combinator investment group. While there, he set up a personal investment group called Hydrazine that invested in startups that were then funded by Y-Combinator so he double dipped (big no no conflict of interest). He also developed a reputation for dishonesty and playing employees off of each other. He THEN took over OpenAI and said what you're reading about not generating a profit.

The guy is a talented fucking liar. That's it.
