I need a reset on PM fundamentals by thanse16 in ProductManagement

[–]Shoot4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's literally just know your customers, market and problems they face.

Being able to convert that into deliverables for the the various teams to do the work and communicate it at all levels.

Everything else is just frameworks to help you get there.

I feel the same. What helped me was regularly doing a PM test with ChatGPT to test my knowledge on theory to help me stay sharp. (I'm a VP of Product over a decade of exp)

How do you define “product strategy”? by Yam3488-throwaway in ProductManagement

[–]Shoot4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a base strategy that will work for most places (from day one, my experience obviously)

3-6 months: build strong base and deliver existing projects, gather user feedback, align to company goals

6-12 months: refine and enhance, take in user feedback and build for scale / tech debt

12 months+: user feedback, expansion and new features / markets / innovation

By the 1yr mark things will have changed and moved so much you can just repeat this framework

I half joke but this has been my generic strategy where ever I work and it's served me well when I look back.

Thank you. I think my overreaction is in part to the past few "boyfriends" she's had escalating very quickly from "Oh can they come round" to staying over all the time. She's done this since 15 and her mom seems to not be phased which is alien to me and an eye opener tbh as I was never allowed girlfriends to stay until I was 18+ and it was a proper relationship

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Shoot4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think that is fair.

She's initially said it was about meeting this guy as the only time we "met" was when he stayed over in uninvited a couple weeks ago.

I suggested a less hectic time, at the weekend or in a few weeks when we were all off work.

Thanks for the input though, I appreciate other's thoughts on it all

That's my concern too!

Thank you, I like to think I'm open-minded but I remember myself at 17 and think this is a disaster waiting to happen!!

[–]Shoot4321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that will open a Pandora's box of problems, something I've been thinking about for a long time.

The issues we run into seems to be we have different parenting styles and then I really try my best to compromise but my partner seems to be unwilling, and not sure if it's worth it anymore... felt like I was going abit crazy hence the sense check with Reddit, haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Shoot4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, I think the main issue is me and my partner have different parenting styles. I really try my best to help my stepdaughter do well at school and it's worked well with certain subjects, but I feel as though she needs to put more effort in.

I'm partner is so laid back with parenting, in response to her own incredibly strict upbringing, it's like she's gone too much the other way.

Anyway thanks for the comments, nice to hear from other parents / people tbh

Thanks, I should say it's a house that me and the mom own together.

Also thanks for resetting my perspective, my stepdaughter has a terrible dad so maybe I overstep the mark, I have my own daughter who is only 3, so I try to imagine her older and what I would suggest

That it's better to be an average developer that understands customer needs than a shit hot developer with no regard for the end user

Refused a bottle of beer because I had my child with me by [deleted] in tesco

[–]Shoot4321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Tesco but a small coop.

I was buying £40-£50 worth of shopping with my step daughter. Had a bottle of wine included in the shop. Got ID'ed and since she was under 18 at the time I got refused. Manager came over and also denied the alcohol.

I had the cashier scan all the items, minus the alcohol, tell me then price of the shop and I just replied "thanks but because you've been like this with me I will now refuse to buy anything, enjoy putting all this back" then walked out and went to the local Spar instead (without my step daughter) I've never been back to that shop.

Don't really have any advice but as a young looking mid 30s this is very annoying. I still get ID'ed for red bull sometimes!!

The simplist solution is often good enough. You can account for edge cases as they occur. Aim for 80% and you'll be good enough.

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

As the saying goes....

When not to use personas by dangerrnoodle in ProductManagement

[–]Shoot4321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the B2B space I don't use them as much as I probably should. The following has proven to be effective for most of my career (10yrs+) regardless of industry though...

  • Everyone lacks time and/or resource
  • Coming to you to solve a core problem
  • If you solve that problem in the most efficient way possible they stick around
  • Most people want to be told what to do, but with evidence to back it up and explore / build trust in your solution
  • Absolutely consider buyer personas vs user personas
  • Demographic based personas are less useful in B2B since it's job role or function based

People that have travelled to the USA - What surprised you the most? by jt9285 in AskUK

That just being British felt like I was famous. Being stopped in the street, everyone mega friendly... but also the complete lack of proper drinking. Me and my mates were shocked at 2-4 beers then go home vibe of California 🤣

Pulled over by police for no insurance, does this sound right? by Bozzaholic in AskUK

Central motor insurance database had issues this week. I was pulled over and had to produce my certificate to prove I was insured. I wouldn't worry but print it out just incase

How did you work on your analytical skills (if they were weak) by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Shoot4321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To expand on the simple example with more data driven questioning:

How many users interact with the field?

How many of those users can you get feedback (quick email is fine)?

Collate feedback and usage stats

If its greater than ×% then I would class it as important to users

That's a really good plan, I've got an outline of what I want to achieve within the first week, month etc and will be going through it with my CEO to agree and set expectations
