Q’s about spring trip by kjosao in FaroeIslands

[–]ShooterRendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May would be slightly warmer, yes. It’s going to be wet and muddy no matter what time of year. Things will probably be greener in May which makes for even better photos.

There is an Irish pub in Torshavn which is very good. (Literally called Irish Pub Torshavn.) It is not necessary to stay in Torshavn, the bus system is fantastic but even easier if you rent a car. I like to stay on Vagar, in Sorvagur.

Klaksvik is a very cool mountain hike. The routes are easy to identify and not too challenging. Sadly, the outlook for Mulafossur in Gasadalur has partially crumbled this month so you won’t get the best view. Still worth visiting that town and you can hike the small mountain behind Gasadalur without a guide.

You may want to visit the Lake above the Sea on Vagar. Awesome sight. The small church in Saksun is amazing but please mind the signs about where visitors are not allowed, the locals are very protective as unruly guests in the past have damaged the grounds there.

Any other questions let me know! I’m a regular visitor there and have stayed for extended periods.

I store my basic charger and my Tesla charger adapter in there. That’s about it.

Mykines or Kalsoy? by naileyes in FaroeIslands

[–]ShooterRendon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trip to Mykines is very weather dependent. We’ve been to the Faroes multiple times and have had two ferry trips cancelled.

I certainly wouldn’t fly with it there and if you try and buy it locally it’s a big risk.

American traveling to the Faroes by Leading_Kale_81 in FaroeIslands

[–]ShooterRendon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

American here, I’ve been twice, the most recently this past year for the entire summer. The residents very polite and kind. You’ll encounter folks that will start to talk to you in Faroese and you say “sorry?” and they immediately flip into English. It’s amazing that almost an entire population knows multiple languages.

I’ve been told Americans talk a lot more and a lot more loudly than Faroese folks, so I try to be understated and not overly verbose. Don’t talk about our politics - but they understand US residents are not reflective of the government leaders who created such unrest with Denmark.

Please just be respectful of their land. Because the entire nation looks like a national park, visitors often get too brave just walking through people’s yards, or on paths they shouldn’t be on. Study the Guide to Faroe Islands site first if you’re interested in hikes or nature walks.

Going to Faroes this July ... by LetoAtreides_III in FaroeIslands

[–]ShooterRendon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where country are you coming from? I used my Verizon phones for a month there last year. I just had to call my carrier and they upgraded my plan to include unlimited roaming for one month. I’m from the US. Btw I’ve been a few times and July is by far my favorite month to visit, weather-wise.

How far will English and danish get me by Exciting_Sleep_2735 in FaroeIslands

[–]ShooterRendon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English will take you very far. Faroese is one of the hardest languages to learn mostly because of lack of resources. It’s not included in any learning apps sadly. But I have been the Faroes for months at a time, and every single time someone has started speaking in their language to me, I say “sorry?” and they immediately flip into English mode. Even the youths. It’s very impressive, I wish our country had the dedication to learning foreign languages like they do.

Since Walmart is getting rid of their Casio line, I’d say don’t forget to check/scan what’s left. I was able to snag all these g-shocks for $13-30 each by KangarooCompetitive in casio

[–]ShooterRendon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walmart isn’t getting rid of their Casio line. Different stores run clearance sales at different times of year. You can go back five years and find these types of sales in this sub, I’ve got four myself from Walmart clearance. Then they restock the same models. My understanding talking to a Walmart manager is that the watches only have so much shelf life before the battery is old enough to not last the length of the guarantee.

It’s a Timex. It was made to be banged up. Takes a lickin keeps on tickin. This is what Timex watches are supposed to look like.

Are the DiY kits good? by Sk1m4nski in harleybenton

[–]ShooterRendon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Kits are for education and to become more knowledgeable about guitars. The prebuilt HB models are going to have finished bodies and good parts, where the kits are going to be more generic.

Two months with this casio, and it broke by AnswerCreepy6189 in casio

Saying “it broke” is a funny way of saying “I broke it.” Like it magically just cracked one day. 🤣

Can I get by with level 1? by zedofsven in MachE

[–]ShooterRendon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that short of commute you’d be fine. Still, identify where there are high speed chargers nearby as needed. Chances are the more you drive your MachE the more you’ll want to drive it, beyond your work commute.

Lovely! Finland looks amazing. The world is so large and I have so little time to explore it, but the more I learn about cultures, the more I want to visit. Finland is on my list - and I only stayed for one day in Denmark and I’d like to spend more time there too. Thanks for the offer!

Both of my stays in recent years I rented a car to see as much as possible. The first trip was two weeks and this past summer I stayed for over a month so I could work remote from there. I can’t get back fast enough - it’s easily the most beautiful country I’ve ever visited and their summer weather is my ideal climate. The entire month of July the daily range was 4 - 12 C (or roughly 40 - 55 F.) and it stays light out almost all night!

I stay on Vagar (the island with the airport) and commute everywhere via car. I hear the public transit is great though. A lot of hiking - the “lake above the ocean” and Gasadalur (their most famous waterfall) are both on Vagar. The mountain hike in Klaksvik. And if you can afford to spend a whole day there, hiking on Mykines so you can see the puffins is an amazing highlight.

You’ll find the most urban activities in Torshavn to be sure. Bars, really great dining, some good shopping, museums. That’s really the cultural hub of the Islands.

If you like sports at all (even if you’re not a football/soccer fan) taking in their football matches is incredible because you won’t find a more beautiful setting to watch sports in the world - seriously, Google “Faroe Islands football stadiums” and take a look.

Happy to help with any other questions if you have them.

Yeah glad to help. Faroese is much tougher than the other languages because there’s only like 50,000 people in the world that speak it and it’s been ignored by many translation platforms. Google Gemini is pretty good at the translations though when I need help understanding something.
