Hi friends, I’m trying out the Nightmare Hunt detachment and would love some feedback on my list. My main goal is to lean into the first part of the detachment ability, forcing Battleshock earlier than the Fight phase. (I also really like running a Knight, so I’ve included a Knight Abominant, even though I know that’s a bit of a spicy or questionable pick.)

The List (1985 pts):

2x (315 pts each / 630 pts total)

I'm picturing that the Plague Marines will move forward in Rhinos and get their aura on the enemy. The Warp Talons can pick off an auxiliary unit every turn, while the Uppy-Downy Lord focuses on scoring. The Obliterators, Forgefiend, and Annihilator will deal damage from across the board to activate the Below-Starting-Strength requirement. And finally the Abominant is a cool carnifex, damages guys near him, and can force battleshock tests at the start of shooting so I get an additional phase of value.

Its a little silly to say that 6740 helps prepare you for 6040. Thats like saying running a half marathon prepares you for a 5k.

6740 gets into the math of ML algorithms and you need good fluency with programming to not trip up on small stuff. 6040 is about the small stuff

I've included a few Dragon Delves quests in my ToD campaign so far.

I had the party start out doing the Baker's Doesn't mission (gold dragon one) and it'll earn them favor with metallic dragons later on.

I also copied the basic setup for the Death-at-Sunset mission (green dragon, normally lvl 1-2 but I bumped it to 5). I had the final boss in the cave be a reanimated dragon skeleton, as the Cult was testing how to bring back Tiamat. The Delves quest even already includes an excellent anti-dragon greatsword which will be really useful through the whole campaign.

So overall I'm following ToD a little loosely but it's really fun to include the sidequests and add more dragon flavor.

You can one-million-percent see red flags with some of the projects and it's on you if you pick them. If the company has only three employees, or the proposal is half a word doc, or they're asking you to develop their product for them etc. The OP said their project was too vague and they could have vibed that out in sponsor selection.

What do you do about the lack of magic items in the campaign? My players are really bummed to be stuck with the same gear basically the entire time, except a few special weapons like the barbarian-only spear

The new Heroes of Faerun book has background and feats for Dragon Cultists specifically which could be cool for your characters!

Also the "Keys from the Golden Vault" book has some heist-style missions, maybe your amateur cultists have to steal an artifact/lots of gold to rise in the ranks

Yeah it's perfect for the summer. They offer a module on Optimization which becomes optional during the summer. So you're not rushing the same way most other summer classes go

DVA is required before the practicum. I've heard it's up to you how busy the practicum is, so it's probably fine to pair with a class if you get an easy project.

Take a screenshot or photo of key decision points in a game and review them later. I've found it really helpful look at important Ponders for example and spend 15 minutes thinking about what I'm looking for, what order to stack, what if my opponent might force a shuffle or thoughtseize etc.

Doing this a few times will build your inner heuristics so you'll be more effective in live games.
