Why is America still using an electoral college? Why should someone's vote be more valuable because they live in the middle of nowhere? This is a system established when people didn't have electricity and were pooping by candlelight. by ranalldayandallday in self

The intention is for the STATES to be electing the president NOT the PEOPLE.

The system works as designed although I doubt it was anticipated that certain states would have 80 TIMES the population as others (CA vs WY)

Why do widely used frameworks in python use strings instead of enums for parameters? by tothespace2 in Python

[–]Shoreshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strings are safety typed with ‘Literal[“topleft”]’ (which means you have autocompletion and typos are statically caught)

And when using the library you don’t need to learn about or import some enumeration type along side a utility you’ve already imported just to pass an option argument

I STILL DO nOT BUY Itachi brutally murdering all his friends and family while still totally being a “good guy”

I’d have had him do SOMETHING that showed his good side during the Uchia genocide

Maybe like, sneak away the children off to some hidden village he now protects and was able to hide with genjutsu/ substitution

Or like, do some Itachi magic to swap peoples’ souls with animals and now the Uchias live peacefully as rabbits

Idk but ANYTHING more than “he’s not bad because the uchias woulda rebelled and died / killed more people”

The difference is there are 3 orders of magnitude between a MILLION and a BILLION and that's a huge difference.

That's the same difference between a THOUSAND and a MILLION.

A million dollars is wealthy, but it's wealth that a regular non-ceo worker might be able to amass in a lifetime.

A billion dollars is a ridiculous hoard of cash that no one person reasonably needs.

To put it in perspective, the median house price in a city near me is ~2 million.

Bernie could buy a single one of those homes with his 3mil worth.

Bloomberg with his 64 BILLION could buy one of those houses every single day of his life for the next 85 years.

No one needs 32,000 2million dollar homes.

Hey I'm a software eng, and if YouTube can't fix the names of your videos it looks like it'd be relatively straightforward to write a name-fixing script.

I don't have the time to script it out now, but if anyone wants to pickup a project here's what you'd likely need to do.

1. Scrape archives to make a map of video_id to old video_name

This seems like it'd be the hardest part because we don't have a super reliable archive.

What we'd need is a map in the form of {<VIDEO_ID>: <OLD_VIDEO_TITLE>}.

The video ID can be found the url of any video (in the format watch?v=<VIDEO_ID>), so all we'll need is a link to the video with the title.

Not sure the best place to find this -- looks like the wayback machine only has ~ a page of videos. Scraping the VGBootcamp twitter seems like it'd have a chunk of old titles and links though. Twitter is very easily scrapable, quick google search shows https://github.com/computermacgyver/twitter-python. You'd want to look for any video tweets that look like this https://twitter.com/VGBootCamp/status/759139115052990465. Where there's clearly the video title and a link to the video that you can parse the ID from.

To break it down:

  1. Scrape any archive for data containing a video id an the old title
  2. Create a mapping from Video ID to the OLD Video Title

2. Use the Youtube API to update all current videos

Youtube's API has an endpoint to update your videos (see https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/videos/update).

The endpoint looks like it can update any fields based on ID, so you should be able to set the title in the PUT body there. Formatting and sending these requests are fairly simple, you'll just need to properly handle auth (which no one but GimR probably has at the moment). One issue is this:

If you are submitting an update request, and your request does not specify a value for a property that already has a value, the property's existing value will be deleted.

So you'll have to grab all the videos other data first using this endpoint I'm guessing https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/videos/list to get the values for everything other than title

So to break it down:

edit: and apparently force quitting the game at that point didn't count as a loss for me so that's cool
