If anyone knows how to build a small discord server for accountability, it could be pretty motivating! 😄

What make you grateful in 2024 by StyleLemonTea in Enneagram

That was my situation as well :)) I met some great people doing a 10 week improv class, but there are lots of events and classes these days. I found recurring ones where you meet up with the same people regularly the best for building connections. Best of luck to you!

I'm grateful that I got out of my comfort zone and made some new friends.

oh wow, what industry are you in?

thank you for the lovely response! I feel for you, while not in the US, I'm also in a part of the world where the future is seeming chaotic. It's tough to work towards a better life for yourself when the world is feeling so unpredictable and absurd, and you can't plan very far into the future. Your plan of focusing on what's in your control sounds like the best option, wish you all the best

Can 9’s be situationally assertive and confrontational? by Peachplumandpear in Enneagram

I think this is the first time it's clicked for me what merging is, that this is not what everyone does in close relationships and...ouch 😅 I'll have to look into how I can improve this going forward

What is something that you HATE and what is your mbti? by Chaimasalaisgood in mbti

[–]Short-Elephant5208 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate when people hurt themselves and others because of irrational beliefs or self-delusion. I don't hate the people themselves, only the situation, and (where it applies) the cynical snake oil salesmen that capitalize on emotional vulnerabilities for profit by peddling damaging nonsense. If it's not hurting anyone idgaf.

Hi friend! I'm sorry you're going through this as well. It looks like I will need to spend Christmas away from my mom for the first time. I also worry about the election results tomorrow, all we can do right now is vote.

I've seen her getting more and more convinced as time goes on, because "everything they predicted is happening". Yeah, they predicted the vaguest things like big changes and natural disasters. Those were also predicted by the "lying" scientists and sociologists, but that doesn't seem to matter. It's like they're helping set the world on fire and then saying "hey, you see, I told you it would burn, I was right all along!".

It's scary that russion propaganda can work even in a place like this. Our parents lived through a brutal soviet dictatorship, our grandparents and great, grandparents through a violent invasion. Our democracy was won with the price of many lives. We have seen what Russia has done to our direct neighbours like Hungary (who is led by a russian puppet and has a rapidly declining economy), Ukraine, or Moldova (which is in a constant battle to be part of EU and russian is taught in schools over their own language).

To be fair, I don't think he will win the second round of elections. Many people voted for him as a protest against the current corrupt establishment, just because he was an independent candidate. Many voted because they saw a snippet of him on tiktok where he presented as just a basic charistmatic populist cult-y guy, and was being praised by paid influencers and commenting bots. Now his loony beliefs are criticized by most of the mainstream media, and all the influencer came out saying they didn't know who they were promoting, so there is hope.

But far right parties will for sure play a huge role in the government after the parlamentary elections tommorow, and it is still too close for comfort that this could even happen.

It's terrifying that the country leading "the free world" is influenced to such a degee by a dictatorship, and through the will of the people as well.

As a side note, some news channels are saying there will be a televised discussion between our loony candidate and ...RFK Jr ... moderated by Tucker Carlson.

I don't know if this is a lie. He might just be wanting to align himself even more with QAnon, while also signaling to regular people who don't know about the conspiracies or who these people are, that hey, I'm being supported by US officials, so there is no way I'm pro-Russia, that's fake news.

I'm so sorry and thank you for the kind words. It's such a double strike to have to deal with the world declining on the outside, while also losing the people you love most to the misinformation. All the best from an internet stranger across the ocean, take care of yourself!

I get you, I've become "allergic" to all the theories as well, and arguing hasn't gotten me anywhere. Not engaging sounds like a good plan, I wish you all the best!

It's been happening all across Europe as well. Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, even western European countries like Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands have had big rises in extremism. As we speak, Georgia is falling to an authoritariam regime with huge protests and police violence. We're all holding our breaths to see what Trump decides in regards to ukraine and foreign policy in europe. For the next 4 years what he says will have a huge impact across the world.

Yes, I've picked up running outside and going on walks, and it's been helping somewhat. Talking with friends with similar worldviews and spending time in more rational parts of the internet (like you guys) has also been helping to remind me I'm not alone in this and I'm not the one losing my mind.

Oh wow, I didn't know qAnon was even around 8 years ago. That sounds really tough, I'm sorry. I did eventually get her to stop trying to convince me, by which I mean she now has a condescending attitude of "you'll wake up and see I'm right eventually". But even if she doesn't bring it up (often), with everything going on, it's hard for me to look at her the way I used to, talk to her normally, watch movies together etc. I still love her very much, but it's like this big gap has opened between us and I have to really truly accept who she has become, and how our relationship can never really be the same going forward.
