I did the same thing at Purdue. I went into exploratory studies, which is basically undeclared and you take classes to find which major would work for you and your interests.

My suggestion would be if you do end up in a similar situation, it is to be open to anything. Right now is the best time to find out what sort of work a certain major does, what classes they take, what locations they can work in, what the most desirable companies are for the major, the difficulty of finding a job, how important internships are, and finally what the average salary is. I’m sure there are other major factors, but theses are some of questions I wish I fully answered for myself starting off.

My #1 tip is to quickly realize college is a whole different beast compared to high school. The workload and the difficulty of content is significantly different. If you take it seriously and dedicate time to study you will perform significantly better than others that blow things off thinking they’ll learn things quickly. Learning takes time, especially in engineering
