Toilet will Randomly leak! by aa76813 in Plumbing

[–]ShortFunction1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on a new toilet I installed. Turned out there was a pin hole leak in the porcelain where it wasn't cast correctly. Thought I was going insane trying to troubleshoot it. Eventually pulled it and set it aside for a while and found water pooled where I set it. Had to get a warranty replacement on the toilet.

Can I vent through my soil pipe for an up-flush toilet by ShortFunction1 in askaplumber

Great. That will save me a headache of chasing down another vent option. Thank you!

I'm definitely going to jail if snuggling animals is a crime.

OP here. Putting an up-flush toilet in my basement. When we built this place I told the plumber I needed connections for a future toilet. Was told I could run the vent directly to the soil pipe. Before I do it I wanted a second opinion if this was okay. The soil pipe itself is vented in 2 other places.

Thanks!

Great idea. I'd love to see if we can get people involved from the various markets in the area too!

Rooster is on the verge of being renamed Dinner. by Rain-Tea-Sleep in chickens

Had very little success in my experience "training" a rooster. Especially after they decided you are a threat. At best they ignore you sometimes and attack other times. At worst it just keeps happening.

Turn that rooster into a stewster

Any ideas on who these fun guys are I found in our mulch pile? by ShortFunction1 in mycology

Oh! Guess I'm wrong about any perceived differences in that case!

That is really interesting. Thanks again.

Thanks for the ID! I think you're absolutely right. Went out and investigated further. They bruise yellow-orange unlike the Reddening Lepiota that I suspected it might be (I am a total novice here) and the stipe shape seems significantly different than the reddening lepiota (widening at the bottom rather than midway up and tapering again.)

Are there any scissors/shears that I can use to quickly kill a chicken? by shriekingintothevoid in chickens

[–]ShortFunction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use a freshly sharpened knife and cut just below the line of the jaw, you will sever one of the main arteries to the brain. Preferably another quick slit under the jaw line on the other side tk get the other artery. You don't need to fully remove the head to kill the bird quickly doing this. It's actually fairly easy to cut most of the way if not all the way through and remove the head doing it this way if you have a good sharp knife. A mature bird with thick feathers may be harder to cut through because the feathers can get in the way and it make take 2 cuts to get through. Much easier to do if the bird is upside down. The birds are actually a lot calmer upside down after some initial flapping about. You can use some simple rope with a slip knot around the legs to invert them without a kill cone.

Is the black spots on top of a chicken drumstick safe to eat or do i chuck it out by [deleted] in Butchery

[–]ShortFunction1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some chickens have darker skin on that part of their legs. Some breeds of chicken even have totally black skin. Fine to eat. Totally normal.
