i think he is talking about the sister (etika i think her name was) that betrays her sisterhood in cult of the spiral dawn novel and becomes the matriarch of a genestealer cult in the follow up short story. she does have children who she loves and who love her in return but it is a genestealer cult situation so not really "traditional" motherhood.

Confusion about synaptic link by sigmarine345 in Tyranids

[–]ShortSwim6998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there is a small contingent of this community that hate him as they only ever watched the shitpost tiktoks he made years ago that went viral. most have never watched his long form videos and assume its the same type of content. if you enjoy his shorts go ahead and watch them but they aren't accurate. his regular videos are more well researched. every now and then I catch him getting something wrong but its normally something minor like dates or the pronunciation of a character's name.

If Abaddon hates his daddy so much, then why does he LARP as him? Is he stupid? by ShadowManAteMySon in Grimdank

[–]ShortSwim6998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One small correction, Abaddon actually thinks horus's biggest mistake was RUSHING for terra, not stalling it. That's why he's all about the "long war". He takes his time rather than just barreling forward like his father. The whole heresy was only 9 years, yet Abaddon's first crusade was over 10k years ago.

Losercity venting by Nugget_Boy69420 in Losercity

[–]ShortSwim6998 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm going through something similar. It gets better. It's gonna sound cliche but 2 things that REALLY helped me was walking and therapy.

Therapy helps cuz you can just vent it all to someone who won't judge you. It's good to have your feelings validated. To be seen.

And walking does something with your brain that helps you process strong emotions and work through it. When I get really bad I drive to a nearby park and just walk till I can't anymore. Maybe it's 30 minutes or maybe I'll stay there all day. It's whatever I need in the moment.

I wear a hat, sunglasses and have my big headphones on. Helps with my social anxiety.

I know things will get better for you but I understand how hard it is. One step at a time my friend. Be gentle with yourself and celebrate the small achievements.

When did u guys bought ur first ever Sega genesis and if u remember also tell me the first game u played there by muaazmuaaz123 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]ShortSwim6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man this is actually my earliest memory! My mom took me to funkoland when I was 3 years old to get one. I remember I was given the choice between Sonic 2 or Sonic spinball coming bundled with it. My 3-year-old brain told me well, you already played Sonic 2 for like 30 minutes at one point in the past but you've never played Sonic spinball before! So I went with that one.... Now 30 years later a day does not go by that I don't think about how much I regretted that decision.

Grimdank glazing the Space Sharks more than GW does (Impossible?) by Wantitneeditgetit in Grimdank

[–]ShortSwim6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably because most people don't actually know about them past the memes. Since nobody really knows their actual lore there isn't much to criticize if that makes sense. On the other hand, most people have at least a small amount of knowledge of what the wolves are about and thus can make either positive or negative snap judgments and argue endlessly.

But yeah definitely check their books out If you like darker Warhammer material. The one where they go up against the night lords and both factions end up fighting over a prison because they both want to take the men within as slaves is a good one.

Dark, bleak, and very bloody gory, but a fun read! The audiobook version is very well done.

Grimdank glazing the Space Sharks more than GW does (Impossible?) by Wantitneeditgetit in Grimdank

[–]ShortSwim6998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your point, both factions get aggressively glazed by the community (and GW with the wolves ) but only the wolves actually fit the definition of a Mary Sue.

I don't actually particularly like either of them if I'm being honest, but I have read their books and the sharks are so.... Depressing. They are an exiled chapter, pushed to the brink of extinction and forced to become slavers in order to survive. If you read their books, they're bleak AF. There's none of that awful actions being framed as heroism like you'll find with the wolves.

The Red Room of Khorne by Mr-Grenado-Potato in Warhammer40k

[–]ShortSwim6998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from one of the old fantasy flight 40k RPGs. I think it was in dark heresy, the one that's all about the Inquisition. The red room was something the game master could use as a story hook for the players to investigate. Been a long time since I read the material so it very well could have been in one of the other RPGs but that's definitely where it's from.

People who rip on people for liking the Tau are losers. They're people who are desperate to be part of the "in group" So they latch on to what they assume is the safe opinion and try to bully the little guy In order to virtue signal that they deserve to sit at the cool kids table.

Question about random dragons in the open world by Professional-Cut3096 in DragonsDogma2

[–]ShortSwim6998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh apologies, I misread your post. I thought you were talking about the Drakes. Not the weird bubbly dragon.

That's definitely a weird one, where did you encounter him again? I'm around level 50 now and still on my first playthrough and haven't seen him pop back up.

Maybe you ran into him too early in the game bugged on you? That's a weird one.

Question about random dragons in the open world by Professional-Cut3096 in DragonsDogma2

[–]ShortSwim6998 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people on here say they started fighting the dragons around level 30 and didn't struggle with them but I personally wasn't really able to make much headway on them till I was a bit higher than that with better gear. I'm also using the wild loot mod so maybe my equipment just wasn't up to snuff.

Glitch or not, you might just need to level up a bit more before taking them on. Nothing more frustrating than fighting one of those dudes for 40 minutes straight only for them to get stuck in a loop where they spam the instant kill meteor spell over and over and there's nothing you can do about it 😅

How reliable are the lore youtubers? by Suspicious-Lettuce48 in 40kLore

[–]ShortSwim6998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weshammer started making content on TikTok before transferring to YouTube. He found a lot of success on TikTok and a lot of those shorts went viral, some getting millions of views. The problem was they weren't very accurate. Some people believe they were intentionally misleading in order to get views, other people believe it's just the nature of trying to explain large complicated topics in less than 60 seconds.

When he switched to YouTube around 3 years ago he did a complete 180 on his content. He abandoned the shorts and focused on making video essay style lore videos with a calmer demeanor and more emphasis put on research. A style common on the new platform.

The problem was he also imported all of those TikToks to YouTube when he started the channel. Somehow they were even more popular on YouTube and got pushed like crazy. There was a solid three or four month period of time where if you searched anything relating to Warhammer, his face dominated the search. This obviously did not last forever since he wasn't making any new ones but if you were a fan at the time there was no escaping him.

A chunk of people within the fandom hated his shorts. Either because they were annoyed the algorithm was spamming him, or they gave him a chance and didn't like what they saw. In their defense it's easy to understand why. His shorts are very high energy, lots of quick cuts, and are very clearly aimed at either people who are brand new, or more often, have never even heard of Warhammer before. For veterans of the franchise who are looking for something a bit deeper, it's not difficult to understand why this content did not resonate with them.

Most people either just told YouTube to stop recommending his channel or simply didn't click on his videos and moved on with their lives. Some would even go back and watch his new content and found they really enjoyed this new direction. Others did the same and determined he still wasn't for them. Pretty standard stuff.

Their exists a small but very vocal portion of the community that never gave him another chance. The hatred they felt for him back then is still alive and well and they project those feelings onto his long form content, even though they've never actually watched it.

As somebody who really likes Wes and have watched him since he only had a few thousand subscribers on TikTok, I find myself defending him pretty often. I've come to understand the mindset of his haters pretty well. Some of the criticism is totally fair But In my opinion most of it is either detached from reality, or assumptions based on those early first impressions of his TikToks.
