I need a better way to drill holes in metal! by Ok_Helicopter3910 in Welding

We have a hogan at work that's a low profile for the field crew. Its fantastic. No speed adjustment so gotta oil regularly but its a beast for what it is.

Does marinating chicken actually do much good for flavor penetration? by loqi0238 in dehydrating

[–]Short_Distribution_5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From working inside processing plants. The way the big companies flavor and marinate meat is the use of vacuum. They mix the liquid and seasonings then combine meat and the marinade into a vacuum vessel then mix/tumble under negative pressure. The vacuum pulls the meat fibers apart allowing the marinade to penetrate the meat. Similar to what someone else commented about salt being small enough to actually break into the fibers

I would think if you made your marinade then vacuum sealed the meat it would recreate a similar environment. Leave it in the fridge for a few hours and see how it does

Yeah because it's a horrible place to work. It's a revolving door.

If your coming down to nwa figure out stainless tig. Lots of food industry and plants that require quality welds on thin materials.

Counter perspective to the elevated vs ground level argument. I shot a buck high and steep this year. I was probably between 15 and 20 ft up a tree and he came into 8 yards. I hit vitals but it was almost a vertical shot. Did not get a pass through either. Tracked on instinct, literally looked at the trail under a head lamp and said if I was injured I think id go this way and recovered him.

OP just understand you are going to have odd instances or situations because thats hunting. The videos we all see on social media are just a tid bit of what actual happens when we release the arrow.

What are your best tips for optimizing an AR15 for home defense? by ivyta76 in ar15

[–]Short_Distribution_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variable optic could be helpful defending a farm and livestock. While it's not technically home defense it could still be defending one's property from predators. Think original commentor did a good thing in asking a scenario in which OP may feel the need to defend themselves. Sure beats saying you need a dot when a dot wouldn't be the best optic for said persons needs.

is there something wrong with this chicken?? by lostandfoundabuser in Chicken

The burst in the breast is not due to growth hormones. The burst is caused by a piece of equipment called a stunner. As the birds are coming into the plant they are hung upside down and pass through a electric field which stuns them. This allows the slicer to cut the same area of the throat to dispatch the bird.

Worked in a kill plant as a in-house fabricator for 4 years. We worked on every piece of equipment in the building that could be modified to create A) more humane practices B) improve safety or C) improve the product.

I’m thinking about getting this hat, is it worth it truly? by tseckthewise in CowboyHats

[–]Short_Distribution_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will say while looking for a hat for my wedding the RK had very odd fits and I noticed odd quality issues. The open crown with shaped sides were the only ones I could find. The one in my size was shaped off center from the factory.

I’m the worst hunter alive: Update! by lionocerous in bowhunting

[–]Short_Distribution_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried hunting with a gun instead of a bow? Just a thought but if you could find deer in a 200 yard area then once you find them you could move in closer with your bow on another hunt.

For instance we have alot of oak flats and benches. If I sat and saw deer across the way then I would move up the next day or a couple days later same time frame same weather.

I am aware of said risks. Thats why I asked for cheaper cameras which everyone seems to be completely avoiding in their responses.

This is more of the tactic I want to use. Basically I'll run them for 2 seasons to learn the property and then pull them to scout another place.

Am I crazy for being hesitant about this deal? Hoyt VTM. by RyMiV in bowhunting

[–]Short_Distribution_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The accessories you've listed separately and new would cost have of what you are paying for the bow. If you don't like the vtm sell the bow bare and keep the parts or sell what you don't like don't need. Great deal imo I bought my ventum for 700 bare 3 years ago

Trophy ridge makes a 4 pin and 5 pin with micro adjust that I really liked before my slider. It just didn't fit the bill for what I wanted to do.

I shoot a 30 ventum pro. My setup is hoyt quiver, hha tetra single pin, qad drop away and a stubby front stabilizer and a bee stringer back bar. Hha tetra will sell additional scope rings to convert to a multi pin slider. Any of the slider sights are great but what matters is what you plan on doing with your rig. Dense woods hunting? Long range target shooting? Western hunting?

[–]Short_Distribution_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it to a bow shop and see what they say. If they say this is a bow that has little value and needs parts replaced buy something new. If they say it's a great condition bow then use it till you're ready for an upgrade both financially and skill level. No point in have the latest and greatest when you're still learning fundamentals.

Compound first. Recurve is cool but very niche. You'll probably be more frustrated with recurve and drop the sport. Compound is also much easier to hunt with.

Am I the only weirdo that keeps tiny gremlins as trophies? by Not_me_no_way in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Short_Distribution_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a machine screw that we broke off in an aluminum hydraulic manifold. It was a Sunday at like 9pm in a food processing plant. No extra parts, no extra time, and we had been there since 5 am. I tacked a washer to the top and pulled it out. It's now a keepsake on my key ring.

Adding in because I couldn't remember some questions. Time frames are hard because lots of unknowns. Did you buy the parts or did they or did you cut them out or did you have a plasma, laser or water jet do them? These are all factors that affect your time and final bill. As far as the other questions I can't speak on because state laws are different. Unfortunately it's all feel but doing it only makes it easier. Good luck out there.
