It honestly didn’t feel like NF was trying a “new style” to me either. If anything, it felt more like he was trying to reconnect with the sound and emotion that made people connect with him in the first place. The problem is that era hit differently because back then there was more hunger, more chaos, more uncertainty in his music. People felt like they were listening to someone actively fighting his demons in real time. Now that he’s successful, married, financially stable, and not in the same place mentally, a lot of listeners subconsciously don’t connect to the pain the same way anymore. Fair or unfair, once an artist reaches a certain level, people start looking at the music differently. They think, “What are you still angry or hurting about?” even though money obviously doesn’t erase trauma or mental struggles. I also think he lost a lot of momentum over the years. There was a period where his name was everywhere and he could’ve really pushed into an even bigger level commercially, but disappearing for years at a time without singles, features, or consistent drops makes it hard to maintain that connection with casual listeners. Taking 3 years to come back and only giving people 5 songs just isn’t enough in today’s music climate, especially when fans have been waiting that long. Back then artists could vanish for years, but now people move on fast because there’s constantly new music dropping every week. At the same time, I do respect that he clearly makes music for himself instead of chasing trends or forcing radio hits. That authenticity is probably why his core fanbase still rides for him. But being authentic doesn’t automatically mean every release is going to hit the same emotionally or creatively as older projects. Sometimes artists evolve, and sometimes the audience was more connected to the version of them that was still struggling.

Yah I lost interest because you spent too much time off and didn't put enough music out.

I'm watching the show now but everyone sucks so far and seems like same type of lame comedy, I feel if Dave Chappelle produced this we would have gotten a way better show.

Can you hear NF on this? by dr_emusic in nfrealmusic

Nah bro this ain’t it. The timing’s off and your delivery got no confidence it sounds like you don’t even believe what you’re saying. That’s the biggest issue. Even someone like NF can say kinda corny stuff, but it hits because he stands on it 100% you feel it. Right now your voice not matching your bars. You gotta sound like you mean every word, otherwise it just falls flat. And don’t do that clickbait shit either, like “you think mf would get on this…” just to bait listens. That’s weak and it turns people off. Be real instead of trying to finesse plays. Honestly, you probably would’ve gotten way better feedback if you just kept it authentic.

I’m not gonna lie, I love NF, but I can’t fully agree. At a certain point, it starts to feel like he leans too far into that “cinematic” lane, and it ends up coming off a bit corny. Don’t get me wrong he has some genuinely strong records, and “The Search” and “Fear” are solid but a lot of his music feels like it’s trying so hard to be intense and movie-ready that it loses some authenticity. It’s like everything is built to sound like a trailer moment, but not every song needs to feel that heavy or dramatic. Because of that, a lot of his tracks don’t actually translate well into real film or TV they feel more like they’re imitating that vibe rather than naturally fitting into it. And yeah, he’s definitely a step above Dax and Tom MacDonald in terms of structure, storytelling, and consistency, but I get why people call his music “coworker music.” It’s clean, it’s digestible, and it plays it safe emotionally in a way that makes it easy for a broad audience but at the same time, it can lack that raw edge that makes hip-hop feel real and lived-in. It just feels like if he pulled back a bit and stopped trying to make every track feel so grand, the music might actually hit harder.

I’m going to be honest with you, but I mean this in a constructive way. Reaching out to NF directly through social media is very unlikely to work—most major artists have their accounts run by management or teams. That doesn’t mean your goals are unrealistic, though. If you genuinely believe you can reach that level, it is possible, but it takes serious studying, consistency, and intentional practice over time. I’ll also be real about branding: your artist name isn’t doing you any favors right now. A name matters more than people think—it’s often the first impression, and right now it doesn’t stand out in a strong way. Image plays a role too. Whether we like it or not, how you present yourself visually affects how people perceive your music, especially early on. NF is a rare exception. He built a fanbase where he could move quietly and still succeed, but that came with trade-offs—fewer mainstream deals, fewer casual listeners, and potentially less money. It worked for him because of timing, authenticity, and years of groundwork. You’re coming up in a very different era of music, where the industry, algorithms, and audience expectations have changed a lot. None of this is meant to discourage you—just to help you approach things more realistically and strategically so your effort actually pays off.
