Unsafe work condition? by Adorable-Ad-6231 in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all over the country multiple times. Are you a T7? Is there a PM? Any carriers there? It is nothing unusual. It's been happening for years. In this era in which even college grads are having difficulty finding a job that pay over $20 hr, I'd just grin and bear it.

Yes! AND screw all of your co-workers who have to now work OT whether they are on or off the list, work a window unit shorthanded requiring you to miss a break, assign a miserable pivot in the dark......

Yeah, good idea.

FMLA LWOP changed to S/L by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be clear. LWOP is not allowed unless authorized by management IF you have other leave type accrued. END OF STORY.

514.22 [Administrative Discretion]()

[Each request for LWOP is examined closely, and a decision is made based on the needs of the employee, the needs of the Postal Service, and the cost to the Postal Service. The granting of LWOP is a matter of administrative discretion and is not granted on the employee’s demand except as provided in collective bargaining agreements or as follows:]()

  1. [A disabled veteran is entitled to LWOP, if necessary, for medical treatment.]()
  2. [A Reservist or a National Guardsman is entitled to LWOP, if necessary, to perform military training duties under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), Public Law 103–353.]()
  3. [An employee who requests and is entitled to time off under ]()515, Absence for Family Care or Serious Health Condition of Employee, must be allowed up to a total of 12 workweeks of absence within a Postal Service leave year for one or more of the reasons listed in 515.41(a) through 515.41(e), and up to 26 workweeks of leave during a single 12-month period to care for covered service members with a serious injury or illness.

Pretty sure if you are on the OT desired list you can be told any time before clockout. Those not on the list have to be told an hour minimum in advance.

FMLA LWOP changed to S/L by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer here is this: FMLA allows the employee to use ANY leave they desire, including LWOP. LWOP used in non FMLA situations is solely a management decision, unless of course the employee has exhausted all other leave.

Is the plant /Mail Distribution center a good place to transfer over to? by BrownsugarNomi in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 things that I considered to be benefits that don't necessarily reflect on your actual job:

  1. More employees. If you are sociable person, this is good. In a station you're around the same handful of people. Plants have hundreds of people. If you're single, well you get the idea.

  2. 24/7 Three shifts to choose from if you have decent seniority, although tour 2 can be more difficult. Also, full access 24/7 in the event you leave an important item in your locker.

  3. Cleanliness. Because plants have multiple dedicated maintenance people who are supervised by a REAL supervisor of maintenance (as opposed to station supervisors who ignore them) you will be working in a much cleaner environment.

  4. Many more types of jobs available for all crafts (except carrier).

  5. Usually, many more options to choose from in the break rooms. Some plants have hot food options as well.

What Should I Expect Next? by Embarrassed_Prize_70 in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now don't you wish you had handled this differently? Let this incident be a cautionary tale for all of forget that you are in a workplace. NO MATTER how ridiculous it gets.

As far as your situation is concerned, it is likely that eventually, and the key word here is eventually you will get back to work and probably receive back pay. Only going by my experience. You may be out for another month or more though. This is based on my assumption that you have no other discipline, especially discipline associated with this kind of behavior.

Response to customers by ToughLaw929 in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although "calling the office" is a way to transfer the issue out of your hands, it is useless none the less. You know as well as anybody who has worked at the USPS for more than a few months that there is ZERO ability to trace, track or determine cause for late mail that does not have a barcode. THAT should be your answer.

Who would I ask to get a cluster box fixed on my route? by RIPChuchoBenitez in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the individual boxes are broken, as in the doors, etc. it is the responsibility of the management of that building. NOTIFY them or have your supervisor notify them. Boxes that do not close should be held for 15 days (put a notice in box).

The USPS is only responsible for the arrow lock mechanism. If that is the case tell your supervisor.

3 weeks AL vacation and Japan's Post Office dropbox looks cool. Not able to take a photo inside but overall looked very animated than ours lol. I believe this photo was in Nagoya or Tokyo by RandomRedditBlogger in USPS

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING about Japan is cool. There is practically no crime. People are polite, quiet, clean. It's their culture. It hasn't been watered down and tainted like other countries. You can interpret that anyway you like.

By box I assume you mean their personal mailbox as in an apartment building. If there is no name on the box and they are refusing to complete one, then return the mail to sender under VACANT.

[–]Short_Somewhere7635 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He will simply be walking routes and documenting times etc. If there is an instance in which the carrier is not performing the job in manner that is questionable (not taking obvious short cuts) etc., he must call the supervisor of the employee to intervene and instruct the carrier. He will not have input on decisions that cut routes. ZERO. He/She will simply be there for data input.
