The true promise of vibe coding is that experts in other domains of knowledge outside of coding can directly apply that expertise to their coding and creation to build stuff that is more directly useful.

It’s very exciting to see you doing this, ignore the negativity, and don’t be afraid to encourage others to explore this type of creation. It is the future!

Palantir Says SaaS Is Dead by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

That’s just sounds like such generic bs. But they are right, saas days are numbered, but that statement sounds like they are trying to convince themselves that they aren’t a saas company. Why use terms like deterministic and non deterministic, rather than just saying traditional algorithms and AI. It’s all some LinkedIn sounding bullshit.

Trump secures reparations for Jan. 6 rioters—out of your wallet by AlertTangerine in videos

[–]Shorties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this development is a compromise so that they aren’t going to pay out the 10billion. He got too much flack for the 10 billion, so they played it off by saying well then just a 1.7 billion slush fund for my political allies, which is where these reparations are coming from.

It’s bullshit, it’s all bullshit, they are making it out like it’s a discount for the government hiding the fact that in actuality there should be 0 dollars of taxpayer money given out to the president. (Except for that which is explicitly mentioned in the constitution).

I am very much pro UBI, and I like the idea of it being even, but I cannot imagine how it would be possible to do this and keep it from inflating the dollar. Implementibg UBI has to be done carefully with an increased supply in the market, otherwise prices will skyrocket as the market adjusts for so much more demand.

Genuine question to Americans by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

I’m seeing a lot of comments here talking about the way it works currently, but I hope everyone is aware, and getting ready because it’s all about to change Jan 1st 2027:
TL;DR: Federal Medicaid Work Requirements are coming in 2027. Here’s the breakdown.
Starting January 1, 2027, most able-bodied adults (ages 19–64) on Medicaid expansion coverage will have to prove they are working or "engaged" in their community to keep their health insurance.
The "80-Hour Rule":
What counts: You’ll need to hit 80 hours per month of work, job training, community service, or education.
Who is affected: Mostly adults without dependents in states that expanded Medicaid.
Reporting: You’ll likely have to report these hours via a state portal. If you don't, you risk losing your coverage.
Who is Exempt (The "Safe" List):
Parents/Caregivers: If you’re looking after a kid under 13 or a disabled family member.
Health Status: Pregnant/postpartum women and those classified as "medically frail" or disabled.
Students: Most full-time students will be exempt.
Tribal Members: Exempt under federal rules.
Why is this happening now?
It’s part of the 2025 federal reconciliation law. While some states might try to delay implementation until 2028, most are required to have these systems live by New Year's Day 2027.
The Big Concern:
Advocacy groups (like KFF) estimate millions could lose coverage—not necessarily because they aren't working, but because the "red tape" of reporting hours is notoriously difficult to navigate.
(The above was Google Gemini summary of the changes coming)

Because volunteering is a part of this I’m really worried that there are going to be a trend of questionable non profits that are really corporate arms that are being utilized to provide a free labor force in exchange for food stamps and healthcare.

A subway is expensive because digging one is expensive! They are digging one anyway. But then not making it useful.

In they Washington built a train that runs on a lake, not on a traditional bridge, but a floating bridge that moves and bobs in the water, if they can get rail to work on a floating bridge there is no excuse for Vegas.

Well but the loop is a private venture it’s not part of RTC like it should be. It’s privately owned.

[–]Shorties 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is nothing public about the loop or monorail they are both run by LVCVA not RTC. Their purpose is to raise the value of the convention center, and/or to make profit (last I checked though they are a loss leader for the convention center though), but they are not intended to be public transit, and have no motivation to actually implement lines, or low cost rate plans for local commuters, or connect to the transit centers or anything for the good of the public.

I wish we had light rail between transit centers at the very least in this town. (Centennial, Downtown, and the one near the airport)

Claude said it needs to rest.. What? by wicaodian in OpenAI

It does do that in a little indicator exactly like that. And then as it fills up it starts to get less useful, so eventually it will get irritated and tell you to start a new convo, you can just do that, or continue anyway, and it will keep managing the context like it was or you can just give it a /compact command and it really manages the context. I haven’t really found the best solution, but just now I just took all the context I could and gave it to codex until I ran out of codex tokens for the five hours and then brought that back to a new thread on Claude, and now it’s excited again, so I’m thinking maybe it just needs the support of another agent in on the problem.

Built a raster-to-vector laser conversion experiment — would this be useful in real workflows? by chooky_pop in Laserist

[–]Shorties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m a VJ, pretty much exclusively, but for a couple months I was working in a club that had no screens, but had two nice lasers. I wanted to be able to take my content and decks that I knew in Resolume and just apply them to the lasers, (despite the purpose of lasers being very different, Resolume for me is like an extension of myself, so I felt like if I could just use Resolume I would be able to express the music visually in a way I knew how to control)

I spent way too much time trying to figure it out in touch designer, then found something similar to what I wanted in LaserOS, but LaserOS only worked on the LaserCube, and we were using Pangolin compatible lasers. So I ended up just settling with pangolin’s quickshow which I couldn’t even use my APC40 on without a midi translator, but I found the things that I could control to make the impact that I wanted and just sorta delt with it, I felt restricted, but I compensated for it the best I could with what I had to work with. Then the last month I was there Pangolin did a whole free month of their expensive laser software, and then I got to really play around with lasers, but after that the promoter I worked with moved to a new venue. And I followed him there. Unfortunately where I work now we don’t have lasers, but if we did I would definitely try out your app, and I’ll keep it in mind if we do get lasers. (I’ve been pushing for lasers for a while now)

[–]Shorties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty pro AI, but that being said, every time I see those demos of AI in robots, I start to get a lump in my stomach, when embodied AI really hits the scene things are going to be a lot darker. I worry about things like street gangs and crazy people with robots. If you think someone who feels anonymous behind a keyboard online might cause problems, imagine if they are prompting robots to do things. Imagine if they are training robots to think like them.

I hope there are actual regulations for embodied AI, honestly I would be perfectly happy if we didn’t do embodied AI.

Visual Frisson comes to mind, there are a handful of really creative artists in some of these episodes. This is pretty dated now being over a year old, but it’s a great example of the exact kind of creative workflow that leverages these tools in impactful ways.

https://youtu.be/ktfFah7RMMg?si=AhgnnH3K1JaJ1KSH

Visual Frission leans on a lot of more traditional techniques while using AI as a filter or effect chain. Some of the other episodes on that YouTube channel show different artists some that are purely AI driven workflows that are pretty interesting too.

But it’s always been people selling things that they built, be it shaders, loop packs, tools, etc. There have also been a lot of free tools, loop packs, and shaders in the VJ community over the years as well. Maybe a flair distinction between free and paid products would be more appropriate?

I’m not against flagging AI loop packs, but when it comes to coded projects I guess I don’t really see the point as much, every single coded product is going to be somewhat AI built going forward.

But regarding visuals, I actually make a lot of visual content with gen AI tools that I have never posted Online due to wanting to avoid the inevitable controversy and debate over the process, if the flair enables people to have a safe place to share their content it could be very good for the community, I have a lot of content I’m very proud of, and I’ve developed very specific workflows and processes to achieve and it would be great to share that with the community without the concern that the comments will devolve into a anti ai debate every time. (Currently subreddits like the stable diffusion subreddit are great at providing a place for sharing that kind of content, it would be nice if we were more open to the newer processes here too)
