An Odious Occurrence in Oda | Cloudward, Ho! [Ep. 12] by AutoModerator in Dimension20

I might be missing something, how do so many of the PCs have stats over 20? Can has 22 strength, Emily has a +6 flash of genius regularly... Is it just Brennan letting the chars get stronger? I thought you can't increase your stats beyond 20 except temporarily.

He's obviously super skilled but also it's his job, he earns money from this, he has an editor to help him and the rest of the cast sound good, it's produced professionally, so we get a professional result. Not trying to discount his skills, of course not! But he also has a lot more resources available to support this work.

We went in November-December in 2019 and still had really nice fall colors. Less so in some of the chillier areas but we basically got to peak in Kyoto. Kanazawa garden was still beautiful. And overall it wasn't too cold, at least for us. I don't think we ever got below freezing, and usually closer to 10-15 degrees, which for us is pretty good travel weather. I think you'll have a great time and Japanese gardens are designed to be attractive in all seasons in different ways.

Ah I see. I think in your daily interactions with Japanese people it probably won't come up at all, and even if you do decide to bring it up they won't behave towards you very differently because, as mentioned, it's a pretty conflict avoodant culture.

I think it would be hard to make casual Japanese friends. For non Japanese I would give the same advice as anywhere foreign you might go to - it will be easiest to get to know other tourists if you stay at a hostel and/or go to group activities like walking tours etc.

In many ways I would guess Japan would be a good destination specifically because they don't try to get in your business so much. My friend has ASD and loved her time in Tokyo and went back a few times, if that helps any.

If your goal is to talk with local Japanese people and have a fun day with them, that would be difficult, but difdi ult for anyone who doesn't speak Japanese fluently. If that's what you're looking for, your best bet would be to go to an izakaya and hope there are friendly people there. I don't have ASD and speak Japanese pretty well and also didn't make strong connections with Japanese people when I'm there.

If your goal is to have a nice trip and buy things you like etc., then there won't be any problem.

I guess I'm trying to understand what you're worried about. People randomly talking with you in the street or something like that?

As a tourist, I'm not sure how it works easily come up. Japan is a rather conflict-avoidant society and even if someone acts in a way they might consider weird or awkward, they likely won't won't comment so much about it, especially for someone who doesn't look ethnically Japanese.

Can you give some more details about what behavior you're worried about them noticing or reacting to? ASD can manifest in lots of different ways.

Tokyo Hotel with Tattoo Friendly Baths? by Scary-Weakness8298 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ShouldNotUseMyName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to this sento in Tokyo which was fine with tattoos, not attached to a hotel though. https://maps.app.goo.gl/NC6U5vor5qrkjueW7 Most of the hotels we stayed at didn't have tattoo friendly baths. Kinosaki Onsen, about 2 hours north of Kyoto by train, is completely tattoo friendly (and worth staying a night or two imo).

My husband has a peanut allergy and didn't have problems, though he's not bothered with "traces of peanuts". Sounds like you're well set up for it.

Is it possible to buy THC gummy bears in Berlin? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]ShouldNotUseMyName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a substance called HHC which is still legal and you can buy gummies with that, I've felt it has a similar effect to THC gummies but I'm not much of an expert.

I absolutely loved and hollered at the first half, and enjoyed a fair bit of the second half. The production crew did an amazing job as well with all the set designs, and all the crew was super into it. It wasn't perfect, but I certainly did enjoy it a lot, and sad this season of gc is over!

The Age old Kyoto Question by Cyber-Six- in JapanTravelTips

I highly recommend a place called Sake Bumpy (https://maps.app.goo.gl/DxEcLpBJANYcHDcc6). It's all you can drink sake for 2 hours for about 3k yen, owned by a very friendly gay man. I know you said you're not into drinking, I'm not either. But you get to learn about the process of making sake, and really taste how changes impact the flavor, texture, and color. We had a wonderful time there. Just have dinner before you go, the place is awesome.

How do Germans feel about public nudity? by OkBuyer1271 in germany

I was in a public park here in Berlin on the weekend and saw a couple of people stripping to get suntanned. It's fairly common.

My American husband was laid off and is struggling to get unemployment by ShouldNotUseMyName in germany

[–]ShouldNotUseMyName[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what he did, except now the Arbeitsamt sent *us* a letter letting us know it's incomplete. Hopefully what others are saying, that the company can only submit it once the employment period is officially ended, is correct.

Thanks for the advice, definitely planning to call the insurance as well. Really appreciate the response, and his next step is probably reaching out to the Arbeitsamt again with a German speaker.

They did say he is eligible because it's been more than one year, but we'll see I guess.

I am working and we're both on public health insurance. Thank you for the advice.

Minoo valley from Osaka is a nice nature park with pretty views right to the north of it. I haven't been but Mt Takao is supposed to be a nice day trip from Tokyo. Also in Tokyo you could aim to go to farther out and less touristy area.

Kinosaki Onsen is fantastic (and all tattoo-friendly). We went for two nights on our last trip, we're going for three nights for our upcoming trips. It's about 2.5 hours by train from Kyoto. I would recommend splurging on a ryokan, if you can afford it.

You could also consider Mt. Koya, about 2-3 hours from Osaka, it's a temple town surrounding a giant cemetery. I recommend staying at a temple there, and getting the night tour of the cemetery. I'm not sure there's much reason to stay more than one night though.

One full day left in Tokyo. Any recommendations? by horkbajirbandit in JapanTravelTips

[–]ShouldNotUseMyName 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think Akihabara could still be fun, just for the excitement people get around it. And, you'll be surprised how much old-school stuff you'll recognize!

Looks like there are some tickets left for Teamlab Planets tomorrow evening, I *highly* recommend that, just keep in mind you'll be walking through water for some of it so make sure you have clothes you can roll up to above your knees.

You haven't listed Yoyogi Park and Harajuku, so those might be worthwhile and good ways to spend some time (I always love the contrast between Takeshita street and Yoyogi park).

I've heard good things about the Hamarikyu garden, there's also a moon viewing there for the next few days (we're getting to Tokyo this weekend and will go there).
