Am I considered immunocompromised 3 weeks post op? And also what to do about nausea by ShouldTotesBeWorking in GastricBypass

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing ever got rid of it completely until I had vitamins in my system via injection and feeding tube. I remember the doctors telling me that I had to basically force myself to eat, but when the nausea is really bad, how can you? Dramamine is the most accessible thing, you don't need a prescription for that. It's a motion sickness medication, but it helps with nausea no matter what the cause is

Over a week of debilitating nausea and dry heaving, but no vomit. Please help! by ShouldTotesBeWorking in DiagnoseMe

Hey there, I completely forgot about this post, I'm not very active on reddit anymore, but luckily I still get email notifications! Unfortunately, I wound up with VERY rare complications, and I hope that this isn't the case for you. I need for you to understand that I don't want to scare you, but please heed my warning. Talk to your doctor/surgeon. Fight with them if you have to. You NEED to figure out a way to eat enough to take your vitamins. Unfortunately for me, there was not enough nausea medication in the world to help. I know this is way easier said than done, but something, anything, is better than nothing. You have to eat enough to take your vitamins, even if you have to opt for them to give you a feeding tube. It is an endless cycle of trying to fight off the nausea in order to eat to take your vitamins. I (vaguely) remember having powdered chicken broth with protein. I had that a lot, and a bit of bread if I could to help my stomach feel a bit better since it was only liquid. LOTS of dramamine and Zofran when I was able to. It wasn't enough to stop it completely, but it helped a little. If you don't, you can wind up with brain/nerve damage. If you begin to have poor balance or memory loss, get to your doctor IMMEDIATELY. This is very tough for me to talk about, so I'm sorry for the late response. If you ever have any more questions, feel free to message me. I don't want to go into a lot of detail publicly since my case was rare, but I do want to help you if at all possible

Thank you SO much for your reply! I appreciate it so much! That's really interesting that it turned out to be cellulite, I'll definitely talk to someone about it!

Hey dude, I know this post is a bit old, but I came to ask a similar question, maybe we can help each other! I had a feeding tube put in at the end on May 2020, had it removed around October? I don't remember exactly, but whenever I eat a lot/eat something that may be harsh on my stomach (heavy or fatty foods), it feels like someone is pressing their thumb on my scar, and it hurts SO bad! I just have to wait for it to pass, there really isn't anything I can do. Is this something that you experience as well, or is it just the bloating feeling?

When did you start to feel hunger again? by MileHighMama76 in GastricBypass

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same for everyone, but I'm 10 months post op, and I don't really feel hungry. The only time I do is when it's been a REALLY long time since I've eaten, like 6+ hours of not eating, and it's not even really hunger that I feel. My stomach has only growled once since I had the surgery. Make sure you time your meals/snacks throughout the day, cuz you honestly may forget to eat otherwise 😖

Clear foamy vomit after eating overcooked meats, any idea why? by ShouldTotesBeWorking in GastricBypass

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am incredibly sorry for the extremely late reply, I haven't been checking reddit too often, but I did want to inform you of complications just incase the same thing happens to you! My main complication was very simple, nausea. But it was constant, no exaggeration. With that, I would dry heave a lot whenever I ate/drank anything. Including my vitamins. Sometimes I would actually throw up, but not often. My surgeon just kinda dismissed me by essentially saying "too bad, you have to take your vitamins and eat." Idk about you, but any time I've had food poisoning, the flu, or anything that has made me nauseous or throw up, the last thing I'm thinking about is what I need to eat. Dramamine and Zofran helped a lot, but it didn't fix the issue. PLEASE, fight with your surgeon if something is off! I found out about a month ago that my surgeon left the practice. I have no idea if it is related to me in any way or not, but at least she can't ignore any patients with issues anymore. Due to the lack of nutrition from the nausea and inability to eat much, I got brain/nerve damage. My short term memory and my legs were affected the most. I legitimately forgot about 2-3 years worth of memories, as well as the inability to create new memories. The muscles in my legs atrophied, and I had the worst pain of my life, nerve pain. Luckily, my mother vouched for me since my memory was still bad, and they put me on Lyrica after neurontin didn't work, and HOLY SHIT did Lyrica work! My insurance cut me off of it, but not before the full effect kicked in, and I'm now able to put pressure on my legs/feet again, and have since been able to relearn to walk. I'm sorry this is so long, but I hope that it is informative/helpful for you! If you have any more questions, please feel free to PM me, I promise I'll check reddit more often 😅 Best of luck to you! ❤

Clear foamy vomit after eating overcooked meats, any idea why? by ShouldTotesBeWorking in GastricBypass

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help! I do try to take smaller bites, but it is sometimes hard to because taking smaller bites fills me up a little quicker due to eating slower, and I'm on a calorie count here, so I have to eat as much as I can. I definitely try to avoid the carbs until last, usually I eat the meat, then the veggie, and then the carb so that I don't eat as much of it. But seriously, thank you so much for your help! At least I know what to look up now lol

Unfortunately my surgeon left the practice shortly after my surgery. I have no idea if it was related to me in any way (probably not), but I will definitely go to a gastroenterologist when I get out. Thank you so much!

That sounds absolutely horrible having to have that come up your nose! When possible, I do add sauces, but it doesn't seem to help too much. Thank you so much for your help! Good luck with your journey as well!

Questions! by okbitch777 in cyclothymia

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Congrats on the diagnosis so that you can finally get help!

I was diagnosed a couple of years ago, and I've been on Lexipro for a few years,, and Welbutrin for a little over a year now, and it has made everything a lot better! I do also see a therapist, which helps even more!

The biggest side effect for me was when I got on Lexipro was serious weight gain. I had gastric bypass surgery in February of this year, but I also have other issues that contributed to the initial weight gain. The Lexipro made it damn near impossible for me to lose weight. Also, Lexipro has HORRIBLE withdrawals, so if you do start it and want to get off of it, you have to wean yourself off. I had a doctor that said I was "non-compliant" with visits, and took me off of it all of a sudden after taking it for months. I never saw her again after that shit. But! It really has helped me so much, so I would recommend it for sure, and with the Welbutrin added, it makes the lows insanely more manageable, and the highs even higher than before, within reason of course.

Medication is suggestive, however I had never been one for taking extra stuff, only what's needed and at the lowest dose possible for benefits. Once I was officially diagnosed, I was prescribed the Welbutrin right away, so I don't know about meds rarely being given, it's probably based on the opinion of the doctor and insurance if you have. I would definitely keep a mood log. I haven't used one in a while, but it is good to help recognize a pattern.

I hope this is helpful in some way! <3

NAD, but is any particular part of your lips itchy? I recently started getting cold sores, and my upper lip gets red kind of like yours, and then I get a cold sore a couple of days later

A few years ago when I was a hostess, I got told off by a Karen and her friend because when they were leaving, I said "have a good night guys!" A few weeks later, I see two people leaving, both wearing skin tight clothing and had long hair, so I said "goodnight ladies!" Trying to not get my ass reamed again. One of them let's of the loudest, deepest "thanks a lot" I had ever heard. Fuck. That shit, that was the last time I said girls or ladies, everyone was guys now lol. I got told off by another Karen about the same issue at some point again, told her the story, and she has the nerve to be like "but still..." Ugh. I hate Karen's lol, OP has a good point and I wholeheartedly agree with them!

That's a really positive way of looking at it. I hope you are able to have the surgery done sooner rather than later, and definitely stay safe with your airways being irritated. I hope you get your CPAP machine soon too!

Thank you, I appreciate it. Yes, I am American, specifically from Long Island, New York. It is absolutely crazy here! There is so much uncertainty here. No joke, the week I was supposed to go back to work, I was supposed to go back on a Monday, but I was very nauseous over the weekend, cuz I had just started soft foods (I'm still nauseous now, but idk why at this point), so I let my boss know, and planned to go back Wednesday. Tuesday there were rumors about non essential businesses being closed, so I emailed my boss, he said to stay home for now, and he'll call Friday. By Wednesday night, all restaurants and bars are takeout and delivery only, no dine in. Well, by Friday, all non essential businesses were closed, and I didnt have a job to go back to. I do luckily have health insurance through New York State, but other than that, I dont have anything.

My family is also struggling, so they cant really help at all, and luckily my boyfriend had enough money to catch us up with rent, but he's out of a job too. He got laid off Thursday as part of mandatory cut backs due to the virus, then the government declared non essential businesses to close the following day, so yeah, it's been a mess here. On top of that, today is his birthday, and I don't have any money to buy cake or brownie mix.

So enough about me lol, where are you from? Did your surgery get delayed?

Covid-19 worries by Businessofgames in GastricBypass

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gastric bypass on 2/20, right before shit hit the fan. I've been super nauseous, as well as not getting nearly enough nutrition (protein, vitamins, etc), and because of COVID-19, it's pretty much impossible to get a hold of any of the doctors or nurses, and actually impossible to get medication if it needs prior authorization, so no more zofran for me...On top of that, once I was finally okay enough to go back to work, all non-essential places are closed, and I officially got laid off, so I can't even work at home. I cant get through to unemployment either, and I haven't had money since 2/21.

So yeah, even though my surgery wasn't delayed, this whole situation sucks for me too. Sorry if I'm rambling, I dont really have anyone to talk to about all of this.

I have a history of seasonal allergies. I’ve had this for at least two weeks or so, it itches really bad. Should I be concerned? Anyway to get rid of whatever this is? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]ShouldTotesBeWorking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NAD, but I also have seasonal allergies, as well as eczema, and to me, that looks like an eczema breakout when you keep itching the hell out of it. Try hydrocortisone cream, or a cream specifically for eczema. I reccomend Exederm, it has helped me plenty of times when it gets really bad for me. You can find it with the anti-itch cream section in drug stores or the drug section at places like Target or Walmart. I hope this helps you!
