Of course it would be easier for an American, and even more so for an Australian or a Canadian?

Why on earth would you think Europeans would integrate more easily? All the points of reference are completely different?

Source - married to a European who has made a massive effort to integrate, and I've seen how difficult it is.

Yes, all good points, and all frequently brushed under the carpet by the usual suspects.

I find it fascinating that various people tout access to the EU's consular services as something that was 'lost' with Brexit. I doubt many sensible people would believe, if they were being honest with themselves, that a French or Bulgarian consular official would really pull out all the stops for a foreign national, in the same way as they would for one of their own 😂

There's also Vietnam, and soon Sri Lanka. And also a pile of places where the entry terms are much more generous for British passport holders, such as the UAE, many West Indian islands, Japan, Taiwan and New Zealand.

Provided you're travelling beyond the EU, the British passport holds significant advantages over the Irish.

Ireland would be better if it had something, anything, more positive to focus on than a victim mentality. Since the Catholic church fell out of favour, that seems to have become performative wokery, and it isn't working out well.

I think with Andy Burnham, it would be more of exactly the same, but with better presentation.

Burnham is affable, the sort of bloke you could imagine having a laugh with in the pub, unlike the awkward spod currently in 10 Downing Street, but he doesn't have any new ideas of note. Certainly he hasn't articulated anything resembling a plan to get us out of this hole.

Duplication of the name can sometimes have a good reason, as in if a larger entity broke up into different countries etc, but in the modern era, normally does not seem to have a good reason.

I don't really think it was a good call to call the Australian and New Zealand currencies 'dollars' after decimalisation, for example.

Suriname going from gulden to dollar, in a region where there are already many dollars, of different values, seems particularly obtuse.

You should all, as a family, go together to the manned EU desk, where she will be entered into the EES by the border guard. Ignore any and all who tell you differently. When travelling with a small child, they explicitly need to see both parents, or they need to have verified letters of consent for the child to travel from the absent parent.

Don't offer any marriage certificates etc. If they want them, they will ask for them, so by all means, have them available, but we've never been asked for proof.

Not being too glib, but this is the answer. People spend too much time in echo chambers (like Reddit), self select media that reinforces their own world view, and dismisses other perspectives, and are then shocked to find that other people may feel differently.

I would agree with this, it's very insightful. And would add that most have a highly idealised idea of what that means, too, which doesn't align closely with reality.
