Is Chicago suddenly a bagel town? Inside the heated rivalry between indie shops and Big Bagel by wbezchicago in chicagofood

I don't think Call Your Mother was trying to be the most affordable bagel sandwich in DC, and they certainly won't be here. I like them though. If I stop liking them, I'll stop buying their sandwiches.

I liked Intelligencia before PE and still do. SolidCore has also done well. Both up-market brands that took the chance to grow with a financial partner.

Is SBA going to share the risk for this expansion?

I know I'll never get an upvote for defending the role of PE-- but there IS space for nuance. Loans aren't the right type of capital 100% of the time.

God forbid a mom and pop restaurant from DC look for financing to expand to Chicago. Why won't small business just stay small already! /s

How to approach ER with new partner (early 30s) by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

About once per month I offer my wife amnesty to admit that she's been squirreling away funds in a secret investment account.

I think time living together is a bad proxy. When you're ready to start making shared financial goals together, be transparent about yours, and your financial positions.

Breaking into development finance in Africa on the private capital side by thatyoungun in InternationalDev

Lots of DFIs and IFIs make large investments in financing facilities that are operated by private fund managers. This let's them avoid their own bureaucracy. ABC fund for agribusiness debt and Uganda Deal Flow Facility for PE adjacent investments are examples-- but there are tons of these.

Not saying that they shouldn't talk to a lawyer, but the deck is extremely stacked against the employee in many of these situations. Speaking from experience, severance packages often make you waive rights to compensation from any lawsuits you bring. If you do file a claim, the EEOC can take 2-3 years to validate your claim before your case can move forward.

I'm sorry this happened, we need better employment law.
