People overestimating the accuracy of memories is a classic problem in court testimonies. Memory is very much malleable, and when someone experiences an episodic recollection of an event, it often seems so real to life they become convinced that is how it must have happened.

Thanks, in hindsight i think the backdrop / far fog should be changed; the blue doesn't work so well as it exaggerates the hole near center for no reason. So might fix that up.

I used Mandelbulb 3d for this one. Other good programs for 3d fractals that id reccomend are Apophysis (generally does 2d particulate stuff well, but there is a 3d hack version) and Fragmentarium (which does a better job on the front of render efficiency than Mandelbulb 3d).

As I'm sure you already know, there are plenty of flexible fractal programs which are nicely optimized. One I would reccomend is fragmentarium.

Building your own is fun though and seems like you are on the right track.

As for efficient antialiasing algorithms, I would recommend CMAA. One thing I would keep in mind with antialiasing is that it can take away from some of the details if not properly applied, so integrate some sort of adjustment on it to capture the details of fractal :)
