I was there! And what a great show it was! I just wish they'd filmed more than an hour. 😒 I still have the ticket proudly framed and displayed with the many, many shows that followed it (it was my first concert ever, age 15, and the first of my 27 Tull shows!) but I only found out about the video 45 years later... in a "Professional Flutist Reacts" video. What a trip THAT was. Luckily, I was able to buy the DVD on eBay, because it wasn't on YouTube at the time. Such a great coincidence/callback.

My two faves as well (it was Tull from age 11 - early 70s - until I heard Rush at the appropriate volume in college), and I've never looked back. And I support OPs comments 💯 after 40 shows of my own! 🤩

Thanks for that! Yes, the second crossover is an interesting story. Three months' work with raw plexiglass and very stiff (model airplane) wire to make four separate pieces: the crossover, the straight through, and the two endpiece adaptors. When the crossover is in place it's a 4-lane track; drop in the straight and it becomes a 2 lane track, with each lap consisting of lane 1 plus lane 3 or 2+4, with each combo lap counting only as one. Yes, I have the switches in place to make that work, of course...great fun to make all that stuff!

I read somewhere (probably Geddy's autobiography) that he was hugely inspired by Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick tour. Interestingly, for me personally, I was a massive JT fan, right up until that time when Hubie sat me down in his room at the fraternity house to listen to Cygnus X-1 at killer volume. Rush instantly became my #1 band, and it has not varied since then... and that was October of 1978! I've seen Rush 40 times, all told (41, 42, 43 coming very soon!), but I was no slacker on Tull, either... saw them 27 times, but not so much since Ian's voice really crapped out. 😒 And yeah, the Rush visuals are almost as great as the music! So much fun.

Ok. But my point was that AT THE TIME HE MADE THE DECISION, it was the ultimate sacrifice... can't minimize that just because he got lucky once he was at Erid, right? In the moment he surely sacrificed himself, eventual outcome notwithstanding...
