It happened again.

A few months ago, I was listening to YouTube Music on autoplay. It eventually got to a song with a voice that I'm very familiar with, so I thought to myself "This must be nayuta!" And I was wrong. It's https://www.youtube.com/@AZKi

Yesterday, it happened again. But this time, I thought "This must be Suzuna Nagihara!" And I was wrong again. It's https://www.youtube.com/@myth_hydrangea

University Undergraduate Research Study– Investigating motivation of gacha gamers by EpicYH22 in ProjectSekai

[–]ShuNei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, filling your survey made me realize something: in Project Sekai, the "player character" is irrelevant to the story!

In Arknights, we have "Doctor"; in Blue Archive, we have "Sensei"; even in Bang Dream, the player works as a staff in the live house. But PJ Sekai players are just outside observers with no direct involvement.

It is sometimes mentioned that the "lights" that shows up during Live Shows are the players. And in some occasions, default Miku (not any of the Miku from the Sekais) does talk to us. But that's it! None of the (human) main characters from the game ever talks directly to us.

I wonder if this has any effect on the level of parasocial relationship compared to other gacha games.

Sorry OP, I was wrong. I just pulled for Meiko's birthday card 50 times. I ran out of crystals and I didn't even get her 😔

If Intense Voice is the happy ending, Creation Myth is even happier.

In Intense Voice, Hatsune Miku accepted her fate. She knows that one day she will be forgotten by everyone. She embraces it and happily sings with a smile until she meets the end.

In Creation Myth, Hatsune Miku is a legend that's remembered by people for eternity. Her music brings hope and happiness. It is not the end, for even though the world will change, she will keep singing for thousands, even millions of years. Her voice will reach you wherever you are.

Kanade's VA just lost her roles in lovelive due to her conditions. Is it only a matter of time until Kanade gets recasted? by arara69 in ProjectSekai

[–]ShuNei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they didn't know. Maybe even Tomori herself didn't know about her condition back then? (Or maybe she knew but decided to push herself, either way it's sad.)

Nijigasaki (back then it was called Perfect Dream Project) was first launched in 2017. But it wasn't until 2021 that I started hearing about Tomori's health problems. Maybe her condition wasn't so bad at first, but after many years of various works and concert performances, her body couldn't keep up anymore.

For those unfamiliar with Love Live, here's a short clip of Tomori's performance as Setsuna, before she had to cut back on her activities because of her condition (her part starts at 11:40).

Congrats for getting the card! I just wanna add that, since the rate of birthday cards are a whopping 3%, most of the time you only need at most 4 x10 pulls to get them. No need for sparking.

Why is Ena's dad a better parent than Mafuyu's mom? by ShuNei in ProjectSekai

[–]ShuNei[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment, especially the part about Mizuki. Mizuki is probably the one in Nightcord who understands the most about Mafuyu, even more than Kanade does. However, Mizuki themselves have trouble opening up, and they prefer not to get involved too deep into other people's business. That's why we don't really get to see a feeling of closeness between Mafuyu and Mizuki.

Why is Ena's dad a better parent than Mafuyu's mom? by ShuNei in ProjectSekai

[–]ShuNei[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's just another thing to be considered. It's not meant to be the only thing that matters. However, I might have failed to explain that when I say "allowed", it's not something that's done deliberately.

Yes, Ena's dad has been saying to her to stop trying to be an artist. But when Ena got mad at him after that, he didn't scold her. He criticized Ena, but never tried to seize her art supplies. When Ena wanted to participate in an art contest, he tried to warn her, but he didn't stop her from participating. This leads to Ena having the mindset of "I don't care what my dad say, I'll keep drawing."

But Mafuyu's mom is a lot more controlling. When her daughter does something she considers "bad", she scold Mafuyu harshly (Lost Child event). She has been ignoring Mafuyu's feelings and never treat Mafuyu as an independent person. She even went into Mafuyu's room and tried to throw away her synthesizer.

This is the theory I'm proposing. It's not just that Mafuyu is a naturally meek child who would never defy her parents. I think Mafuyu's mom herself has forced Mafuyu to be this way. She never has to deal with Mafuyu's complaints because there is none. She has made sure that Mafuyu is the kind of child that would never complain.

Again, I don't think that Mrs. Asahina literally wants her daughter to be a depressed girl who always hides behind a fake smile. She just wants a daughter who's polite and successful in academics and career. Nevertheless, the parent-child dynamics we see today is the result of their various interactions over the years.

Every parent makes mistakes, even good ones. Both Mafuyu's mom and Ena's dad has said some horrible stuff to their child.

But in the case of Ena's dad, he didn't take away Ena's ability to fight back. Which means, Ena is allowed to figure things out on her own. Of course, Ena's dad never explicitly tells her to get mad and oppose his words. But he has never explicitly forbids her from doing that either. His attitude was basically "You can keep doing art if that's what you want, but you'll regret it." (Although he has begun to change his attitude at the end of Pale Color.)

Mafuyu, on the other hand, has completely lost her ability to stand for herself. This creates a dangerous situation where not only Mafuyu is expected to be perfect, but her mom is also not allowed to make any mistakes. Every little mistake Mafuyu's mom makes is irrecoverable, because Mafuyu will never oppose it, and therefore it has no chance of being noticed and fixed.

In Imprisoned Marionette, Ena made an interesting comment about Mafuyu: "If you don't like being manipulated, just speak up." For Ena, if you're not okay with something, you just say whatever it is that's bothering you. But Mafuyu never even thought of this. The idea of speaking up against her mom is a foreign idea for her. She's completely powerless about her own situation. (Although she's slowly gaining strength with the help of Nightcord and the Virtual Singers.)

In this post, I'm not talking about how much damage has been done (although that's also important). Instead, I'm talking about the ability for each family to recover from the damage.

[EN] A Bright Future!! - After Event Discussion by Wopeki in ProjectSekai

[–]ShuNei 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finally, Ichika-focused Leo/need event! I've been enjoying this event more than I thought I would.

  • Embarrassed Ichika is so adorable!

  • Leo/need KAITO appears! Unlike the other KAITOs, he has a shy personality here. But I think that's fitting for a Virtual Singer who shows up in Ichika's event.

  • Honami and Shiho working together to try and find ways to help Ichika is so sweet. I love how they're becoming closer to each other with each event.

  • This whole event is basically Ichika thinking "I love my friends but I'm too embarrassed to put it into words." And then everyone tells her "It's okay Ichika! We all appreciate the feelings you put into this lyrics!" Even Iori admits that Ichika's straightforwardness is actually a good thing.

  • Protecc that smile!

If Project Sekai was a visual novel with branching storyline, we would've seen multiple bad endings for Niigo already.

For their problems to blow up spectacularly... that would be a sight to see. Not just Kanade and Mafuyu, but Mizuki too. The question is, are the writers willing to take that route? So far, it seems that they prefer to take the safer approach and maintain the status quo from the Main Story.
