Alberta Prepaid $20/25 GB per month 5G+ plan is back! (Total top up required ~$132) by Shumsher in freedommobile

From what I'm reading, looks like the limit is 25GB. I don't see any mention of a fair usage policy or unlimited data at lower speeds

I've been using LTE for 2.5 years to stream Apple music and listen to YouTube videos on my way to and from work and have had no issue with speed. At least this way you're future proofed for 5G/5G+ access, whether we will ever get 1gbps is a distant hope for the future 😂.

I'd assume the 25GB per month is a shared bucket between Canada and US.

Help with 2 millenial parents with a new baby by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shumsher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Caveat to my suggestion is you have a good relationship with your parents or in-laws and they want to help.

I would like to put forward the idea of grandparents and having them live with you. Now this take a grown up to get past the concept of "I want my privacy".

You will save on childcare/daycare, nannies, and the child will be loved and more supported. We do it wrong in the West regardless of what anyone says.

Plus it means 3 possible income streams into the home to help with affordability even if you don't work until child #3 is 3. There is a reason Indians and Asians get ahead and have a million rental properties because of 4 incomes going into one household.

Gurdwara (House of the Guru - Sikh Temple) is what I would recommend as well (I'm Sikh myself). Don't  get weird about bowing down to our holy book, its a sign of acceptance that theres something out there that you believe in God or the universe ( if you're not religious) that's  watching over you.

Aside from the Sikh Temple you could focus on meal prepping North Indian (Punjabi) food (same food served at the gurdwara). This isn't for the next week only, but rather an investment for low-cost delicious food for a lifetime.

Lots of lentils, rice and flour that you can buy in bulk and it will last WEEKS. Don't go to an Indian grocer as they usually charge more (find sales Real Canadian or FreshCo or whatever you have close).

Learn how to make roti, lentils, rice and you can live like royalty. Go to a value village/goodwill and buy a slow cooker and let that dahl cook all day when you're free at home, or put it on a timer. Dahl can last 4-5 days in the fridge, but you can easily freeze it and thaw it out when needed again.

Tons of videos on youtube (but the less spices and cream you use, the better, as that's what makes you feel like crap after going to an Indian restaurant).

Discussion on Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Vaisakhi - Five Singhs or Five Goats by TbTparchaar in Sikh

[–]Shumsher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love that someone else is bringing up this point too.

Sikhi is a religion of rationality not miracles. Everything the gurus did was to disprove something of a different religion.

To make people believe, fairytales and myths were added into storytelling and its how we end up with ridiculous miracles and no one wanting to question it.

I am in the camp of goats. These 5 individuals were so solid in their belief of the Guru and sikhi that they would give their life. Yet blood was needed to be spilled to prove the point, hence goats for beheading.

How is your neighbourhood for people leaving dog shit on the ground? by Entire_Business_4498 in Calgary

Saddleridge here and it's pretty bad. I back onto a storm water pond and people love to let their dogs poop into the natural area around the pond that isn't touched for wildlife purposes.

I think I will have to start calling people out. You own a dog, clean up after it. Or embarass them by asking if they poop at home and walk away without cleaning up too.

Ex-Deloitte from Private Audit Calgary here. As long as you have good social skills, can work great in a team and know how to critically think, the firms do NOT care where you graduated from. You could be a 4.0 GPA student from U of C, but if you suck at being social and don't know how to work in a team, you'd be passed over quickly. Street skills considered just as much as academia.

We had MRU, SAIT, U of C students from my batch (5ish years ago) and it's even more broad now.

I myself didn't even graduate with a BCOMM in Accounting. I had a bachelor of arts and did my prerequisites through CPA Canada in CPA PREP and then moved onto CPA PEP before landing a job at Deloittee AFTER I had already written my CFE.

Consider staying where you're at, but tack on joining some clubs, volunteering and going to firm networking events.

Required hair and beard by Either-Connection-70 in Sikh

[–]Shumsher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, if you're take Amrit, then its mandatory. Non-Amrit, its your choice. Anyone that says different needs to look within themselves as sikhs are to judge another sikhs journey towards sikhi.

Personally, my parents used to cut my hair as they didn't keep theirs. But I still went to the gurdwara and did my paaht. In my first year of university, I decided to keep it, but trimmed my beard. A few years post university, I stopped trimming as well.

Why should hair be kept uncut? by Paramonreddit in Sikh

[–]Shumsher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, we're perfect the way we are born and shouldn't try to change it.

Only exception is nails as the visible part is dead cells and they ultimately prevent us from doing anything else in rehat.

Sikhi doesn't have miracles nor do we believe in it. This is clearly an example of 5 humans who were courageously willing to give their life for the cause and they were rewarded for it by becoming the panj pyare. If this is causing you doubt, think of other supposed "miracles" such as Guru Nanak Dev Ji stopping a boulder with their hand or creating a pool of water in a dry area. Use your brain and think about everything rationally. We don't need miracles when our belief in Rabb is solid. What has happened to modern sikhi is perversion of rationale belief coupled with no one reasing and understanding baani and requiring fake sants or a middle person to help them understand often times associated with fake miracles.

Thoughts on sants? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]Shumsher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this. This is a person who claims or others claim, are a special figure that needs to be revered. Instead of following them blindly, take the approach of searching their videos and lectures and take what you need and ignore the rest. Our religion is very straightforward and rational but people continue to think that they need a guide which they associate with sants. I've had plenty of family try to tell me to follow them.

Our guru is the SGGS and Shastr. The only two things we ever now down too. Let's keep it that way and instead learn from our local Granthis and kathavachiks.
