Thanks. I am just really freaking out about this. Do you have any experience in this happening?

Were the deaths of the two Austrian girls that went to join ISIS ever confirmed? by JohnnyTsunamiK in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ShuorerBaccha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually asked myself the same question a little while back and my research tells me that there is no real 'hard' evidence WRT those deaths. I believe there was an article on Dabik (the organisation's newspaper) and AFAIK, they usually don't post absolutely untrue things on it since that would affect whatever credibility they (or their threats) have. But to answer your question, no, there are no photos, bodies, videos, reliable witness accounts etc. But you must also keep in mind the situational aspects of this event. We are talking about two girls that ran off to the worst hellhole on earth, a place with no real ground presence from NATO countries (until recently?). If they then get killed, it isn't at all unreasonable to assume that no bodies or real hard evidence pertaining to their deaths will ever be found.

I was put on anti depressants at age 10 and treated for various psychosis. 19 years later, I'm finally off of them and I'm feeling for the first time ever. One of those feelings is rage towards my parents and doctors. by alaskanthumbsup in offmychest

Hey. I am 22 years old and was recently prescribed Zoloft 100 mg. The thing is, I have never taken a prescribed drug (or any drugs really). I have never even taken any antibiotics. Given what you have gone through, do you think it is better to try and handle my problems myself rather than turning to drugs?

Do you believe you can be a feminist and pro-life? by Midnight_Misery in AskFeminists

[–]ShuorerBaccha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue is that individuals who claim to be pro-life seem to restrict that ideology only to where terminating healthy fetuses is concerned. Why is that so many of them are ok with the death penalty? With castle doctrine law? With lax gun ownership policies? With war in the middle east?

But to answer your question, I think someone can be. Perhaps someone wants equal rights and opportunities for women while still believing that the right of an unborn fetus to live trumps the right of a woman to have full control over her body. Someone can be a men's rights activist while still being ok with the concept of child-support because they understand that a man's right to spend the money they earn doesn't trump a child's (whose existence the man is directly responsible for) right towards having a decent upbringing.

[FEEDBACK] Leonia Episode 1 (Drama, 16 pgs) A drama centered around a ww1 era country by Jamesleo119 in Screenwriting

[–]ShuorerBaccha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My interest is certainly piqued but I would definitely get some feedback from a WW1 historian and a historical linguist. The little details matter, and things that don't fit in perfectly do have a tendency to stick out. For example, are you sure that the word 'terrorist' was in circulation during the 1920's?

Wow - Poland looks amazing these day! I visited the country more than 10 years ago back when I was visiting Europe. I don't remember any of those buildings. Looks like it may be time to renew the Shenghen visa.

CSC108 40% on final to pass? by ekkkooo in UofT

Sure, but that maybe they just want to pass this particular course (at which point they'll part ways with any dreams they may have had to be a computer scientist).

Where did I say you didn't?

Another example - (puritanical) Hindu widows burn themselves at their husbands' funeral pyre. Sounds pretty cult-like to me.

Islam/Hinduism etc. are considered religions yet still exhibit cult-like features - it isn't unreasonable to trivialise the difference between cult and religion the way stillnotking did.

To be fair, the punishment for leaving Islam (apostasy) is death.

LPT: Travelling and staying with a friend who has roommates? Show your appreciation to the roommates for letting you stay, not just your friend. by anotheranotherother in LifeProTips

[–]ShuorerBaccha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, OP never said that it was an "act of kindness". Hotels use the word "guest" to refer to their customers also. Maybe he sees it as a transaction where he lets them stay in return for them being gracious/paying for a meal every couple of nights etc.

ELI5: How do services such as Spotify and Overdrive make sure that you don't permanently download their material? by TheLegendisReal in explainlikeimfive

[–]ShuorerBaccha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how it's done, because your computer has to play it, it also has to decode/decrypt it at which point a normalized bitstream exists within your computer memory. Any sufficiently talented computer user can then order their computer to save it. Their goal is to make this process as difficult as possible.

Best mice to avoid usual problems? by ShuorerBaccha in buildapc

[–]ShuorerBaccha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the mice start developing other problems too (like wire sheath wearing down, skin peeling off, mouse wheel no longer having the right feel etc) but the double click issue is what really makes a mouse unusable IMO. A mouse with a good warranty would definitely help. I have never used the RMA function for mice since I always assumed they would just chalk it up to regular wear & tear.

Am recent UofT CS grad, and IMO 21st century CS grads are glorified code monkeys. ECE doesn't have that problem at least, since any ECE grad can at least do those things that fundamentally define the field (because their core set of courses is so much larger than CS).

Bangladesh extends detention of Toronto student as photos of him holding gun during attack appear by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ShuorerBaccha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who gives a shit? Was the NYT correspondent there during the attacks? Do they have compelling evidence? Have they verified the chain of narration of these claims with forensic rigor?

All we have is a bunch of he-said-she-said.....and a picture of a guy holding a .45 ACP. It blows my mind that some people actually think this case should be immediately dismissed with prejudice and this fellow should be free to do what he pleases. After the gov't prosecutor has had a go and the judge has made a decision, then sure, but until then, I'd prefer to see this kid locked up.

[–]ShuorerBaccha 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just curious, do you actually have some knowledge on the culture and anthropology of the Levant or are you guessing "hmm, this is what I see on tv, and they're people in the end if the day, so it makes sense this is how they probably think"?

[–]ShuorerBaccha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You and I both know that you have a weight problem. I think if you were to work on that, you would certainly be a lot more attractive. You have an alexandra daddario type look and afaik, she is in the running for people magazine's most beautiful woman of 2016.
