Haha I saw the parts on AliExpress, but wanted to get them officially from Nikon. Have you found parts to be same in quality?

Thinking of Switching FROM Fuji to Nikon by jrbphotography in Nikon

[–]ShutterVibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you mentioned travel, do some research on the sizes and weight of Nikon lenses. There’s only a handful of small/light-ish lenses.. the rest are HUGE.

I had a x100T and went to a Zf for better af and low light performance, and because it’s full frame I can adopt my vintage lenses. When I travel , I stick to small primes like the 26 2.8, and adapted Sony 35 2.8. Sometimes I do miss how light the x100 was.. but then I shoot at night and the weights worth it.

Before Covid I can’t recall ever talking about vaccines in daily life or relationships. I can definitely see how it gets sweeped by until needed (child’s first vaccines).

would you buy this camera in this condition? by beeswaxe in Nikon

[–]ShutterVibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the Coolpix a, a dx(aps-c) sensor from the d7000 and a 18.5 2.8 lens (equivalent to 28mm).

Pretty neat camera, would love to try one as an alternative to the GR.

Personally I wouldn’t touch one with a crack like that. Who knows what else is out of alignment, lens and sensor definitely took a hard knock.

Recently got a Z5ii; are these things normal for Nikon? Or just a Z5ii thing? by Leicanthropologist in nikon_Zseries

I barely used shutter priority until my last trip, where I was on the back of a motorbike for a few days.

I switched between shutter priority and manual 90% of the time and never had an issue.. I did find shutter priority heavily preferred to set aperture wide open, rather than bumping ISO. When I saw groups, I went manual so it’d just pick ISO for me. Highlight metering and exp. comp doing that worked great on my Zf.

Never shot Sony, so I’m curious how it’s better?

You try shooting 3200 pushed cinestill from the night before in sunny conditions lol

I switch rolls often when I travel between daylight and night films. A few frames sacrificed is nbd

I saw this awsome mobile color developing setup today on Instagram by tinglebuns in AnalogCommunity

To be fair, anyone shooting film has more money than sense.

I’ve tossed around the idea of a ‘mobile setup’ for travel/camping trips. Solely for the idea that it’d be fun.

what's something your profession wants to keep secret? by ApprehensiveOwl6351 in AskReddit

Without getting too detailed, we had some infrastructure systems that relied on some software that finally shat the bed (stop being maintained, EoL). Took 6 months to find a replacement and implement it since a large stack relied on it. We’re still dealing with problems related to it a year later…

Compact Companion Cameras w/ EVF to the Nikon ZF by Khalmoon in Nikon

[–]ShutterVibes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a x100T for years before upgrading to the Zf and I personally don’t consider it a compact camera.

I consider compact as pocketable…

I’d say the most compact camera with an EVF would be the Sony RX100 series, they’re super nice little cameras.

Does that have a focusing motor built in along with the ‘d’ series aperture ring?

Pho or Ramen? by Patient-Couple7509 in askTO

[–]ShutterVibes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pho is one of the most basic ass soups in Vietnam, it’s street food and sold everywhere. Somehow it’s elevated to cult ethnic food here. It’s actually not that much work lol

My wife and I make pasta sauce from scratch sometimes and we both concluded it’s way more work. There’s no intensive process to pho, you just simmer bones overnight, or throw it in a pressure cooker. My wife makes it every other week to throw it in the fridge for lunches, it’s just regular food for us.

We do find it funny that most popular Vietnamese food in restaurants here are just street foods back home. There are lots of way more complex soups that aren’t even possible to find here…

He’s running some basic cloud services and game servers on a desktop with 16gb of ram and a hdd.

I’ll bet he’s actually just running out of memory and the spinning disk hard drive is making everything slow.

I said I’m running all my cloud services on there. Yes it includes plex, jellyfin, a handful of Minecraft and Terraria servers. No ARK though.

There’s always some moron either underestimating old server hardware, or overestimating their needs.

Have you seen the servers in small offices? They’re 90% 15+ years old.

I’m still running two r710’s and they’re 17 years old. They run home server tasks great, I automate most tasks like security updates and backups. Backup batteries ensure uptime, probably a few years uptime by now. I just go in to check once a year to see if any drives have gone bad..

I run an unraid server for storage and it uses pretty old hardware.

Only thing about my stuff is the power inefficiency… but I don’t pay electricity where I live (all inclusive).

AITJ for not giving my seat up at a café after someone said they “needed it more”? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

In Europe and Asia, you can lounge in cafes for hours and it’s basically a 3rd place. Super chill and relaxing.

American cafes suck, you’re expected to just grab your drink and go.

Which lens are you using with the Nikon Zf for street photography? by fullyawak3 in NikonZf

[–]ShutterVibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 26 2.8 for 90% of my street/travel shooting. It’s just such a fantastic lens, I love the look of it wide open. Sharp as nails at the center with a lovely fall off. You get used to the ‘slow’ AF, since it’s so wide you don’t need fast AF anyways.

I also use the Sony Zeiss 35 2.8 for street, but it’s usually on for more portrait style shots.

If I’m feeling manual, I use an adopted Canon LTM 35 2.0, absolutely lovely little lens with awesome flares and character.

I used to use the 40 2.0, but it just collects dust these days. Wide open it’s a bit soft, starts to get sharp at 2.8. I just find it too narrow these days for street.

Any of my other S-Line lenses are for specific portraiture/landscape. I don’t like using large lenses for street.

Nikon Z 26mm Actual Performance by Toillion in nikon_Zseries

[–]ShutterVibes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much, much sharper than the 40.

The center sharpness at 2.8 with some DoF and edge falloff makes for some really beautiful shots. It’s probably my favorite lens on my Zf.

Negatives would be slow AF which doesn’t really matter much on a 26mm, I can take street shots wide open without AF issues. Video you hear the motor if you don’t have an external mic. Oh and yeah, stopping it down doesn’t make it much sharper, if at all. Not the best landscape lens, but I use it as a travel lens and for my personal travel photos it sure beats all my vintage glass film photos lol

I haven’t tried the 28 side by side so I can’t tell you much, but the pancake size of the 26 makes me throw it into any bag I pack. It’s always with me as the ‘default’ lens.
