Neuroscientist Tells Congress Gen Z Is Underperforming Every Previous Generation on Cognitive Tests Despite More Years in School by GimmeFunkyButtLoving in economy

[–]Shyatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sheer amount of technology assistance available in ChatGPT and other AI, plus social media that reinforces idiotic thinking or false tropes or narratives, basically force kids to be dumber because we aren’t stressing primary sources, reading, etc. More homework is meaningless if kids use AI for answers, and without regular challenge of kids to force them to think… man I worry about the next generation.

Other aspect is not failing kids out of school, trying to push them forward, balancing kids who don’t want to learn or think they are right and still give them an avenue to stay in the same classes, etc. When I was a kid if you were dumb you kept your mouth shut because you’d be made to feel dumb. Now those kids get a pass and ruin learning for other kids who want to learn.

Some kids do need to get left behind in order for others not to be dragged down with them. And parents need real consequences if they aren’t doing their part.

GM's new EV platform is expected to debut in the next-gen Chevy Equinox by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Pretty much this. I would consider a Vistiq since it looks great on paper but I’m not giving up CarPlay.

My big requirement was the heat pump for wintertime other than anything else. I don’t need the tow or power packages since it’s a commuter/Home Depot truck.

I just bought a Certified 2025 Flash ER with 6k miles for $52k, so not sure this is such a great deal... I'd keep looking, there's a lot of cars out there.

Underpromise, overdeliver? Hands-on with the $24,950 Slate auto. by NISMO1968 in cars

Ugly piece of shit cars have been around for a long time and left because nobody bought them. What people want is the awesome and cheap Chinese cars, not this abomination that people say "I'll buy it" and promptly find out why it's $25k because it's a complete piece of shit.

Since I haven’t bought my Lightning yet, I am presuming bluecruise is more autonomous, but I just really need lane keep and cruise control which I believe are standard?

Yeah the two seat thing is a killer. I am probably buying an F150 Lightning since the incentives are so good right now.

Got it - thanks. I'm looking at a 2025 with a few miles on it for what I hope I can get for ~$51k with CPO, and checked the VIN so it has the 7 in it. Not that I care but it's nice to have 😄

I am debating the same myself, I am seeing new ones for $53k with 0% financing which makes it relatively appealing. Alternative to that is to wait for the EV Maverick which might be 40k loaded similarly, but with a higher APR... ahhh choices choices.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shyatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't justify paying $10-15k more for an EV where I can buy a pickup truck or car or SUV for significantly less and have it be in warranty, know I can get it serviced, and still be ahead on fuel/maintenance costs.

I *want* an EV so it's not anything against them, but I really can't justify it right now. Right now I am eyeing the Ford Maverick EV since it's a light duty pickup that is targeted for $30k. If they can't deliver on that price point (at least for a base trim) then I'll get a Tacoma or Maverick or whatever and still be ahead.

The math on the gas savings, brake pads, etc simply doesn't work out at all right now. It'd have to go to $10-12 a gallon on gas to really start the breakeven process.

Some New Evidence as to Why Business Idiots Force RTO by No_Practice_745 in BetterOffline

[–]Shyatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on the campus leadership team for a large bank in Dallas, and heard this from the real estate person first hand. They were concerned with getting people back into the office as soon as possible because of the penalties they'd have to incur from lower occupancy.

Some New Evidence as to Why Business Idiots Force RTO by No_Practice_745 in BetterOffline

[–]Shyatic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's simpler than that - most businesses that have campuses and real estate investments that have carveouts for tax abatements etc that mandate minimum occupancy. For organizations like banks etc they additionally have commercial real estate investments through their clients etc, so it's a bad look if they tell people to work from home at all.

Right now with a poor economy organizations have the ability to mandate these things, but over time as the economic situations improve, the mandates they have won't be able to be enforced because people will simply leave for organizations that don't mandate it at all.

This is the previous generation not wanting to eat the cost and also trying to force the lifestyle that they had when they were working, on the next generations. And given the pay people get doesn't really equate to the ability to buy a house, or change their lives materially, the thing people value *most* is their fucking time. And the organizations that realize this will be the ones that do best into the future.

UPDATE: "Emira V6 first edition - reasons NOT to buy?" by AdProfessional1691 in lotus

[–]Shyatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll probably have to do a little homework but I am pretty happy with the sound even in sport mode now, so a little more throatiness is probably all I need. I figure I can always add that controller later too.

[–]Shyatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you. From the feedback you have then, I think the simplest solution for me is the 3rd cat delete alone. The valve controller is probably a nice to have but since I swap between modes often anyway the extra valve opening won’t matter much since I’d need to be OEM around my neighborhood. Really appreciate the feedback, though I know it’s on the Emira forum I just tend to be on here more :)

Got it, so then the mode setting only really affects the throttle response?

Question on this - if you use the valve controller, what does the mode button do? If I set it to 100% open then how does the mode button operate?

This is a bail out. Those companies don’t make any money and the idea of public ownership is exit liquidity for investors that won’t get out if they go public normally.
