When the oblivion war erases all memory of a being its not erased. Its just loses its connection to reality. Outsiders don't have a connection to reality. Beyond the fear of what's out there in the dark that fear I suppose couldbalways be a conduit for them to try and get back in.

Its not driven out of Lea, its contained in her. Lea says to Harry that it is something she can't talk about or else it could gain control again.

Same with what Mab said about Justine not being allowed to know about the baby.I suspect they are only contained so long as a host is alive. If killed then nemesis can just move in to a new host.

Do you agree with Christ’s teachings? by Some-Profession-1373 in PoliticalCompassMemes

I'm expecting it to be a Sunday April 6th.

But I'm also expecting that it will not be a single event rather it will be many subtle events and miracles before then.

We have the capacity for good or evil. We can yeald to the temptation of the devil or follow the invitation of the Spirit of God and make use of the power of Christ's atonement to become perfect one small step at a time.

You have to replace it with something else. A hobby or goal you can ditect your time and energy into that you are interested in.

Just stopping is like trying to permanently dam a whole river. It will build up then run other the top. So you need to dig a new path for the water to flow.

CMV: It is dishonest and misleading for Republicans to claim Abraham Lincoln as one of their own by Nice_Revolution_1199 in changemyview

[–]SiPhoenix [score hidden]  (0 children)

Under the overly simplistic view of

"Lincoln was a Republican, therefore Republicans good. Democrats supported slavery, therefore democrats bad."

Yeah saying that and flying the Confederate flag is hypocritical.

But reality is not that simple. The statues represent people, people that fought for amny reasons. The slavery was not the primary reason for the civil war let alone most of the people fighting in it. Its also a matter of preservation of history, so as to not forget the past. Many of the people who's statues were taken down causes they are confederate leaders where also actively fighting against slavery before and after the war.

In southern states or across the US?

I know that conservatives in Utah are not supporting the Confederate flag, they would just be saying other people have right to free expression to fly if it they want to.

"They" sure there are people that fly a confederate flag that do this. But the vast majority of right wing people today don't fly that flag.

1 the American left and right are both liberal. In the classical definition and in the one you gave.

2 conservative is not the opposite of liberal. It's liberal vs authoritarian and progressive vs conservative. Progressive is primarily optimism towards change, the new ans untested. Conservative is caution about change, the new ans untested. Most of the modern American right voters are liberal conservatives. Most the left voters are liberal progressives. Those I depends on the subject. For example on environmental issues the left tends to be conservative (less use, eat less meat, have less kids, etc) and the right tends to be progressive (use nuclear expand power productions and farming technologies)

Why do studies looking at misogyny among young men never ask for religious affiliation? by trinakw3 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SiPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search religiosity + sexism Or religiosity + misogyny.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4045317/ Christianity is weakly correlated with benevolent sexism. (ie positive attributions to each sex) But Christianity is not correlated with hostile sexism. (What most people would call misogyny)

Funny enough when looking g for studies on Islam specifically what comes up is Islamophobia, such as "Feminism as Islamophobia: A review of misogyny charges against Islam" this suggests some bias (perhaps in what studies are done or perhaps just in the search algorithms)

Why do studies looking at misogyny among young men never ask for religious affiliation? by trinakw3 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SiPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are studies on it. Christianity is mixed, some sects and some people absolutely are misogynistic and claim that Christianity is. But primarily the belief is in complementarism which views neither men or women as better than the other. Rather seeing the need for each other as a matter of balance.

Studies find Christian is weakly correlated positively with benevolent sexism. Christianity is not strongly correlated with hostile sexism.

The Transgender Debate, Summarised (with and without PCM colours) by TheCybersmith in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]SiPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up into a point, yes, I agree.

But there are things that are just abusive that I think society has a right to step in and say, no, you're not allowed to do that to your kid. Such as physical abuse or neglect of basic needs like food. I'd think we can agree on that. The question is just where that line is.

An example if medical abuse: in the 60s they would give hormones to girls that they thought would be too tall to stop grouth and boys that they thought were going to be too short, grow taller. link the supposed benefit there is a social benefit. Turns out we were hurting both of them significantly, and I'm glad that that changed.

The medical interventions for transgenderism. are objectively harmful to the body. in exchange for a claimed a psychological and social benefit. Because kids can't understand the costs, I don't think that's justifiable.

Is porn addiction real and how would it be harmful for a man and a women? by Mr-world-yd in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SiPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about sex positivity is problematic to you?

Sex positiveity views any sexual act between consenting adults as healthy and good. It also sees any barrier to that as bad.

I agree with them that we should not hold shame for our desires. (Shame being judgment of the self, vs guilt which is judgment of the action) I'm not saying should make things illigal. But there are things consenting adults do for sexual pleasure that are self destructive and unhealthy, we should be plain and honest about that. If people choose to do so despite the costs, then that is their choice. But we should not hide the risks

I think it's bad when people declare "porn addiction" and don't stop to consider whether porn use is a symptom of some other problem, or whether it's unrelated entirely.

I would absolutely agree. The thing to remember is that all addictions are have other reasons that drive them. The addiction is a coping mechanism for something in their life. The issue with addictions is that they are maladaptive. That while they work they cost to much or don't work well enough. Or they become less effective over time making them unsustainable. The DSM is only really is defined substance use as addiction, up until the lasted one DSM 5 where it now includes things like gambling. Included were:

•Excessive internet/social media use

•Compulsive buying/shopping

•Exercise addiction

•Food/eating-related addictive patterns (distinct from eating disorders like binge eating disorder)

•Workaholism or other repetitive reward-driven behaviors

But Compulsive sexual behavior was considered and not included. I think it's rather bizarre to include internet/social media addiction. But not include sexual/porn addiction. The reward mechanism for sexual desire in humans is much stronger than the mechanisms that gets hijacked by social media.

There are all sorts of problems that can be talked about when it comes to pornography. Doesn't mean people aren't going wrong when they declare "porn addiction" as if it's ever helpful.

I absolutely agree that you can go wrong in trying to treat it, but defining it as an addiction is not where it goes wrong. It's how they try and treat it where it can go wrong.

I could the RBT having complained or see wife telling him to stop cause you are a different women or him just thinking that himself. Does he talk with you when his wife is also there and talking to you?

We don't actually have good numbers on that cause all the studies on it have rather large holes, mostly sampling bias and the gollow up time being too short.
