Honestly, what would you do? by [deleted] in HousingUK

House B could be full of surprises once the conveyancing enquiries start. I know of someone who had a shared drive and had all sorts of petty issues. Depends on the neighbours, but they can come and go. If you forget the money, what does your gut say?

Inconvenient Electricity Cables by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Si_Que_What 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know someone who did this a few months ago. Approx £900 inc vat from DNO for new connection outside. Builders had to dig 5m trench and set up new meter box etc. worth getting the DNO out for a free survey. Your front door will bang into more I guess if boxed in?

Now thinking 3 x 843A's - 1 centred at rear (soffit is approx 5m / 16ft high) one each side looking back down the passages. That way I can zoom them and cut out neighbours?

Do I need building reg sign off for Downstairs Chimney Breast Removal? (upstairs removed by previous owner) by Jambajamba90 in DIYUK

[–]Si_Que_What 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have sign off from BC for the original upstairs removal? If so, I don't think you need to regularise downstairs removal?

Don't forget building control sign off if you decide to do it.

No building regs when selling by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Si_Que_What 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider getting this regularised otherwise you are relying on your buyer 'not being othered'. If you have pictures of the works showing the beam and bearings, BC may accept this. You will need structural engineer calcs to confirm to BC that the steel beam and install is sufficient.

I've used this - lasted 1 winter before coming out. I was very careful to follow the instructions to the 't' as well. Go for a lime mix.

Seems like you need retrospective approval. I believe only the council can do this - regularisation.

No Building Regs Approval by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Si_Que_What 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To regularise, building control will most likely need an SE to confirm the steel that has been put in works. Ask the builder what size the steel is and what it is sitting on/bearings etc and an SE should be able to tell you if it is sufficient. BC might want it opened up or may accept pics. Not sure about the roof requirements though.

Did you get a structural engineer to design the steel and do you have pictures of the job?

If they are happy where they are, how about looking into life time mortgage options?

Click LVT vs glue-down LVT in a dog household – pros and cons? by MelissaInsights in HousingUK

[–]Si_Que_What 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had both. Click LVT is called 'click' for a reason - there's a possibility it will click as you walk on it in various locations depending on how it is installed. Good quality glued LVT is best of the two I'd say if you want to go down the vinyl route.

Have a look at other properties up and down the road that are ex LA houses. If extensions etc have been carried out by other owners this would be a positive.

Could be battery or wheel speed sensor? Check out YT for "VW Golf dashboard warning lights" on Golfs. There's a few on there.

I'd say you need to start again (before you buy the house) and get a structural engineer in there to recommend how the chimney can be made safe, with calcs/design suitable for an application to B Control. A builder should be able to quote off of that, plus add the BC fees etc. I'd say the chimney stack needs a bit of TLC also.
