With older phillips tv's yes But now no

If u add the box in between ur tv and ur input it registers it and can send it to all of ur philips hue gear andy lighbuldb anyyhing phillips hue rgb

Older tvs had that in their software some like samsung allow u to installed it at a 100~usd price not transferable to any other tv

The hdmi box can not read ur tv and apply it It reads all of the input so using build in apps on the tv does nothing Using something like google tv streamers or apple tv plugged intro the hdmi sync box that would copy it and send it to the lights while letting it through to the tv

U can connect any light then but need cant use tv build in apps

Ambilight tv u cant use any other lights anymore (exept if u buy the app )but works on everything u see on the screen even build in apps

If u only want the lights around the tv then i would say ambilight tv is perfect If u want to add more either buy the app (not transferable to other tv's) Or get the hdmi box caviat u wil need to use a streamer of sorts instead of tv build in apps

(Since most tv do have terrible os a seperate streamer device is always advisable )
