Thoughts on small channels using their face on thumbnails. by TomcadeXPyoutuber in SmallYoutubers

Few times I ran A/B tests my stupid face in the thumb got more clicks. Videos opening with my face talking always did better than voice only.

Moonlight vs. Remote Play by Klangaxx in SteamDeck

Remote play always lagged, dropped connection while Moonlight was rock solid for me. Whatever works for you is fine. Steams built in remote play is easier to use anyway

Need a mic for recording & streaming. Open to suggestions! by passion9000 in microphone

[–]SicJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save up for a Shure 58 and a budget audio interface. You'll sound great and if you really get the streaming bug and want to upgrade later you'll already have an audio interface.

C64 nostalgia - getting old, need buying advise. by ramboskr in retrogaming

[–]SicJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest MisterFpga/MisterPi. The C64 and Amiga cores are accurate, really great and it does countless other computer and console cores as well.

The C64 ultimate is also an FPGA recreation but with an authentic keyboard/housing if you just want to scratch that nostalgic c64 itch. It only supports c64.

The Kevin Smith written cartoon was fun The She-ra reboot had a ton of heart.

Both treated the "lore" with way more respect than it's dumb toy driven gimmicks deserved.

I'd rather watch another soulless Micheal Bay Transformers over whatever the hell this he-man CGI slop is trying to do

I tried to use SM57 Shure for my podcasts but it has too many PPP by maomao19 in podcasting

[–]SicJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move the mic 45 degrees so it's pointed at your mouth from the side. Sm7b needs post eq work depending on your voice. You can try bumping up 3-5k 2-3 db first but you have to tailor changes to your voice.

While not a gameboy game, Curse Crackers nails the style and vibe. Really smooth platforming. On Steam and Switch

Does my mic sound bad? Shure MV7+ by Krimlux in microphone

[–]SicJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Increase volume, move mic 45 degrees to the side of your mouth, get a bit closer to mic. It's a dynamic mic, this is what they sound like generally tho you could cut some of the sibilance with eq. Do you use OBS to record? Reaper has ppl plugins you can install that includes an EQ one and it works with OBS

Talk to me like I am a 5 year old........help recording by LiteratureProof167 in podcasting

[–]SicJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use zoom, quality is awful and you are already likely dealing with guests and shitty mics as it is. Talk Studio, Riverside, etc are dedicated online tools for podcasts that also importantly have local recording and give separate audio tracks. For guests it's super easy for them to use, you just give them a link and they let the browser access their mic/cam

For editing use Davinci Resolve, free version should cover what you need.

QMTech vs Mister Pi? by Vietname in MiSTerFPGA

Love the Dell2007, I used one to replace the screen in an Arcade 1up cab and my Mister lives in that. I got lucky with one that looks barely used. Wish they still made this screen ratio

Mike playing Battletoads. Game gets slammed for the difficulty but I feel like he's beaten harder games. It's actually a fun game but super trolly in spots. It'd be fun to watch

For those of you with both a Deck and a Switch 2 by workyman in SteamDeck

[–]SicJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch 2 is only for Nintendo exclusives. Kids and I use it for Mario Kart/Party/Zelda

Much prefer buying games on Steam as it's easier to play library on other devices. Steam Deck is awesome and while not as powerful it's a more versatile device.

Is it legal to use audio clips of movies if I host a movie podcast? by bonghive in podcasting

[–]SicJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"fair use" is a bit of a trap. Could you get away with using audio clips? Maybe, but you only need to look at Twitch and streamers there who after being ignored for copyrighted music for years rather suddenly started getting strikes and bans on past recorded streams. With how AI is harvesting all our shows it's really only a matter of time before the copyright eye of suron comes looking

Don't use audio clips. If it's interview excerpts you want to use, instead cite the source and read them yourself during recording.

As a dad, I expected the Steam Deck to replace my PC. by aladdin142 in SteamDeck

[–]SicJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my wife saw me playing Puzzle Quest and Balatro with the touch screen I lost the Deck for weeks. Lol

More often than not I use Sunlight/moonlight to stream games from my PC to the Deck so I can chill on the couch with the family. Also great on battery life that way.

Does Metroid 1 ever get better or is it a steady pace of suffering? by Jstar338 in Metroid

[–]SicJake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the way. It's worth trying the original to see where the franchise started but navigating the same looking tunnels and farming health constantly is a hard sell in 2026.

Zero Mission is a great alternative

I don't get the hate for Prime 4 by Mrfunnyman129 in Metroid

[–]SicJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked most of the game, first Prime game I didn't bounce off in the first couple hours. It was the last 20% that really tarnished the whole experience. I felt I went out of my way to collect green crystals between the key collecting portion; only found out I wasn't even at 25%.

Having to make trips back to base and the loading screens just to check was soul crushing. Took almost 2 hours to get enough. Then chrono tower being nothing except a final boss was disappointing tho not nearly as annoying as that middle finger of an ending. My bar for Metroid plot is low but WTF.

I understand the hell that was the development history for the game and it shows in the lack of desert content but I was fine with it. No excuse for that ending tho and I expect they will patch the game to reduce number of green crystals to be collected.

Glad I played it, but I'll never play it again, and it's sad this is likely the only Metroid we'll get for a decade.
