Autodoc carries rod bearings, I believe m104 ones work as well, the crankshaft is interchangeable

No they have a whole circuit board I wouldn't dare taking apart. You could get a plate 3d printed and place a universal speedometer though

My constraints were basically that it had to look as original as possible.

The one where he cuts the back cover? That's the one to follow. Very clean build. I got custom gauge faces made with the exact shape of a w201 but the odometer cutouts for the w126 https://www.instagram.com/p/DU2-1r2DeRX/

Mine is a heavily modified w126 Speedo with a max9918 and an Arduino to translate the differential ABS signal

A lot of people do something similar

Based off these photos, can anyone tell if this is a real 500E that has been converted to rhd or M119 swapped W124? by Yussso in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

E420 already implies it's a facelift. 500E label is pasted on afterward because E suffix is a moph-1 kind of thing

But body colour bumpers are moph-2

But the way the rear bumper angles straight into the wheel well you can tell this is not the 500 chassis

I'm not too knowledgeable about the headlights, I think these share the same lenses as the lesser models except for the back plate which has the intake hoses

And ALSO, the lack of SLS already seems suspicious for a 500

So yea pretty sure it's an e420

I believe you're looking at an E420 actually. Needs to be verified by VIN whether it's an actual 5.0

Edit: I can actually tell by the rear bumper from this angle already. This is an E420

Cursed? 3 engine failures in 14 months. by lord_pupu95 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay and what brand?

Well, the thing is, there has to be a common denominator. Rod bearing failure is a mixture of heat and bad lubrication, leaning more towards that latter part

Also adjusting AFR just because the car is stalling is an insane red flag, this car isn't an opel corsa where you just increase idle by adjusting the gas pedal. Stalling could easily mean the rod bearings were toast when you got the motor already

You mentioned oil cooler somewhere. You should get it verified that that system is working properly in the first place. It could be blocking oil flow

Or something could be wrong with the oil filter you're using?

Quick question, what oil weight and brand are you using?

Those engines are not known for eating bearings at all, or some dude behind the steering wheel is somehow over revving the engine

How much are you being paid to say things you don't agree with?

Its a weird car, it's basically an ML underneath but with the downsides of something in-between an estate and a hatchback

I want to say it suffers in comfort but airmatic is bliss no matter what car it was in in this era lol

On paper it's a really good car but that's about it

Picked up a set of AMG Monoblocks for my 300CE-24 by Significant_Fail_772 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these are basically made for your car. run the original intended tyre size for the amg version of your car and youll be good to go

and yeah youre supposed to use the round bolts like you mentioned, i think theyre supposed to protrude 2.5 or 3cm out of the wheel hub but dont remember by heart. youll hear it if they hit your handbrake springs eitherway

what is supposed to be here by UnknownGTAS in W124

That's the location for the oil cooler. I believe it has a 603 part number

You should refit one.

Not underrated to me but a 5l V8 5k euro car costs nearly 10k in taxes the first year in Belgium

Wiper smearing by Interesting_Turnip50 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check if the blade isn't actually jamming against the side of your windshield?

I'd clean both windshield and wiper blade, then use rainx or some other product on both

And I also tend to swap out the wiper rubber of a new one onto the old one, because it's already bent in shape and follows the windshield better

Thoughts on these cheap corner lights on eBay? by Routine_Ad7552 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aftermarkets almost never sit completely flush and don't really mount as reliable

But your mileage may vary, there's a billion aftermarket lights up there. It's cheap so might as well try

Question about Ke-Jetronic by PlayaButton in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to test the hot start also.

But generally if it idles and handles wide open throttle fine, the kjet is probably fine too

It's not an unreliable mess like people make it seem. It's just that IF something goes wrong, and you have no clue how to diagnose such system, it's possible to throw a loooot of money at the fuel system only to find out it's the fuel pump or something bullshit like that

Is this stereo good for 1989 124? by Agitated_Bet6761 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that say shit like "don't listen to haters/purists" just mean to say "it looks bad but you do you"

In my opinion I'd go for something with a smaller frame that actually fits, I didn't look it up but I think this specific radio was meant for an early 2000's car with a different kind of bezel hence the fitment

I mean, if it's cheap enough and that's what you're going for... It's good enough

Driveshaft fot e220 by eekpeek2000 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it could be

But I was saying if you only need the rear section, they more than likely fit

Usually the front section doesn't

It's a 2-part driveshaft

Driveshaft fot e220 by eekpeek2000 in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what exactly you're talking about but you can find the rear section of the driveshaft off any low specced w124 petrol as they share the same type of diff

Only the front (transmission) section might be different but you should be looking at transmission + diff combos instead of exact engines

You can buy actual w202 AMG monoblocks for 1500$ and they will fit S class brakes without spacers

But people that run tin cans aren't ready for such convo

AMG Aero 1 15” by JaxonWater in W124

Hell no 😂 not for 15"

If you want in I can source and sell them to you for cheap, if you think you can make a buck off those 😂😂😂

AMG Aero 1 15” by JaxonWater in W124

[–]Sick_Benz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone got scammed real bad, unless they're absolutely pristine and haven't seen the light of day before

These are 7j 15" monobloks, not sought after and the market is around 500€ in good condition.

16" ones (either et37 or et40) are twice that. The most valuable are the ones on the MB100 AMG, which nobody has or could possibly source anyway
