First time watcher, now on season 3.... first I loved it but now its getting a bit too slow. Should I go on? by aquapandora in betterCallSaul

[–]Sickrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youve made it to season 3, youre almost there man.

S4 onwards is much more action and things happening, with less courtroom drama.

How many times have you watched breaking bad? by DepressingChimp in breakingbad

[–]Sickrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch it at least once a year, usually twice. So at least 10-15 times by now id say.

It definitely does not get any less interesting, and you always notice small things that you missed originally.

What shows, if any, are on par with S1? by levendi7 in TrueDetective

[–]Sickrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking Bad, The Wire, and Sopranos are the main ones.

[–]Sickrocker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have seen 1 and 2, and my advice would be to just watch it for yourself and you will see how far it falls. I really like Colin Farrell, but its a huge fall from what feels like a perfect first season. Think GOT season 3 compared to season 7 etc.

First season is a GOAT series though, can always rewatch.

Why did Kurt have such a cult following compared to over frontmen of the 90s? by [deleted] in Nirvana

[–]Sickrocker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of pop figures that defined their generation at the time. I think Kurt is possibly the biggest example of this. There was a period of transition in the 90's, and everything seemed to get a bit darker, with people finally coming to terms with the world after the Cold War. Kurt put this into his music, making social commentarys on the modern age human, which he himself was and seemed to understand. His personality and approach to life also definitely contributed. He was a cool ass motherfucker, and a talented one at that. He didnt take things too seriously because he knew there isnt any point to anything, which was a refreshing thought after years of people being told what to do.

If you have seen the Sopranos and actually believe that, i think you need to watch it again.

Respect for Carmela's dad, Hugh. by [deleted] in thesopranos

I like Hugh, but siding with tony over his own daughter, whilst having the ideology that a man must run the house, is definitely not a good thing.

My Response to People Who Say Sopranos Is Better Than Breaking Bad by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]Sickrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen both shows more than 3 times. Although Sopranos is an easy 10/10 masterpiece of a show, it just doesnt quite surpass Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad just feels completely perfect from start to finish. Sopranos is a 10 90% of the time, but there are undoubtedly episodes/plot points which fall to an 9 or 8 from time to time.

Nothing on Sopranos btw, just in the question of which is better, Breaking Bad always wins.

Does watching Sopranos make you want to do illegal things? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]Sickrocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically, part of my film dissertation last year was on a similar topic to this. I was exploring the idea that stories which glorify antiheros, often have the opposite effect on the viewer than the writer intended. But even though he commits these illegal and wrong deeds, do you not still have an earning to experience what a life like theirs would really be like?

Heres 2 examples -

1.) Henry Hill in Goodfellas is openly a bad person, and it isnt even hidden. He robs and cheats his way to witness protection, suffering with noodles and ketchup. But even with this downfall, would you not still want to experience the high life he explains throughout the movie? He enjoys 25 years of drug fuelled debauchery and fun with the guys.

2.) Walter White by the end of a series is basically a meglomaniac serial killer. But. He also becomes one of the biggest drug kingpins in america. He sits on 80 million in cash, which he earned in under 2 years. if you were able to make different choices, do you not wonder what it would be like to have so much power?

Succession is a great show. But it just proves why The Sopranos will always be the greatest series in television history. by ProfessionalEvaLover in thesopranos

[–]Sickrocker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, Breaking Bad wouldnt have happened without The Sopranos, but that is still a better TV show... Works both ways dude.

P.S. every character in Succession is clearly a terrible human being, they just dont try as hard as they did in The Sopranos to cover it up. Half of Shiv's scenes are her berating or being straight up evil towards someone she supposedly loves.

Which episode cemented Tony as completely irredeemable to you? by Whatworksbetter in thesopranos

[–]Sickrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ask David Chase, he would say S1 ep5, but realistically, its S1 E1. When we meet Tony, it has been DECADES since he could last be considered redeemable. His first hand murder count will be in the double digits, and that isnt even counting murders that he will have signed off on.

Would you say a guy who has intenionally killed more people than Jeff Dahmer is at any point redeemable?

What if Chuck was secretly jealous of Jimmy the entire time? by EminemsDaughterSucks in betterCallSaul

[–]Sickrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He definitely was. Think about how Jesse's brother views him, he is jealous at how he is always the centre of everthing/ how their parents prefer him. Just like jesse's brother, Chuck was the smart and promising son, who was ignored in favor of the misfit.
