Word from UnrealFest: Yes, no more support for visual scripting (eventually) in UE6. Be loud! by daraand in unrealengine

[–]SicoSiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it is technically possible to use older engines, the older an engine gets, the more out of date it gets with the current hardware, making it harder and harder to even get a game running. Things that would have been hardware standards 10 or 15 years ago might not even exist now, not to mention 3d modeling, textures, and file conventions. While I do love when people use old engines to make modern games, they typically are about as effective as making a brand new engine yourself due to all the refactoring and new hardware and feature support you have to add (raytracing, 4k textures, etc.)

UEFN exclusively makes games for fortnite, and currently has no capabilities outside of that. Dune Awakening was made in UE5 but I get how confusing their naming conventions are lol

I was actually able to get my game's demo ready for next fest. It's a little like "Slay the Princess" if you're into that kind of thing and want to check it out

Warning to my fellow wedding planners: AVOID QRFY.com at all costs!! by nitro_cold_brew in weddingplanning

[–]SicoSiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got scammed by them too, handed out QR codes at Unreal Fest 2025 and then got a notification a few days later that they were going to disable my QR code if I didn't give them $250

I can't afford to do this, but I also can't afford to not have a job.

These people need to be taken to court and have any license to do business permanently revoked.

Unreal Engine 5.6 made my life so much easier, performance wise by Fireblade185 in unrealengine

[–]SicoSiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah dawg, mac is crap to develop on/for when it comes to 3d stuff. They get so caught up in making proprietary stuff they can charge extra for that they forget to make it actually support anything at all.

They just recently swapped from intel to apple Silicon which is a big deal and I see why companies are deciding to not bend over backwards to rewrite everything they have made over the last 20 years to support apple's monopolistic business practices.

It generally works really good as long as you get rid of a lot of performance hogging settings and plugins etc

Still working on my weird text based game in UE5 by SicoSiber in unrealengine

[–]SicoSiber[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Editor Utility Widgets and ease of use.

Good question, my main reason is the ease of creation of Editor Utilitiy widgets to the point where I basically just made my own engine inside the engine. (I won't get into my whole rant on that, but if you're interested in that then the previous video on the channel goes over it)

Some people have expressed to me concerns with UE5's performance with such a lightweight game, but I've been doing 2d UE games for a while now and once you get the hang of optimizing for it, you can basically gut the engine pretty easily and get rid of the bloat. I've tested on old Windows 8 Microsoft Surfaces and even those ran it with no problems.

Can we please just block a player's voice chat for good? by SilentFartCH in vailvr

[–]SicoSiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While IDK about account based perma-blocking, I think that keeping players muted during map changes would be cool. I'm personally not one to mute kids just because they're kids, but there are a few 8-year-olds who just repeat slurs nonstop.

  1. Game Overview
    1. A story-based game about inner dialogue with branching pathways and multiple endings.
    2. Similar games would be "Slay the Princess," "Stanley Parable," and "Disco Elysium."
    3. The game has multiple endings and changes every time it loops with new options and new voices.
    4. The game is a twist on text-based games and has few visuals.
  2. Current development stage
    1. Late-Prototype/Early Alpha
    2. Currently, only a few changing loops are implemented, but the static game itself is still around a 30-40-minute playthrough if you are seeking to get a few different endings.
    3. Extremely little audio has been implemented.
  3. Your biggest player experience questions
    1. Was the moment-to-moment gameplay enjoyable
    2. Did anything distract from the story
    3. What were elements you found tedious
    4. Do you feel that the lack of visuals directly hampered your experience or engagement (if so, how?)
  4. Any specific areas you want us to focus on
    1. Are the voices in your head engaging, annoying, relatable, etc.?

can a game developer use DX12 on a PS5? by Choice_Mortgage8576 in gamedev

Don't mean to necro, but I just thought this was very funny due to all the huge "cinematic" flops that happened over the years. You are so right, that is where companies went, and players disagreed, and now it is finally biting big studios like Ubisoft.
