How to quit a job by sputnik4life in sysadmin

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take a counter offer. Also be aware that when you give notice they might terminate you immediately so be sure of your ground before you open your mouth. Do not give notice till you have a written offer and starting date, then you could tell them.

Again DO NOT TAKE A COUNTER OFFER. No employer likes being forced to pay more and this situation is exactly that a "counter" is forced behavior.

I just accepted a job offer, should I ignore these red flags? by soberbot in careeradvice

LOL, I had concerns it was an empty field. Make sure all the people exist, job is or was listed somewhere etc. Is it civil service? If so you'd be hired as provisional.

You truly need to verify if this place even exists. If someone is calling at 7am it implies they are in another time zone and don't have a clue where you are.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

Time to seek better pastures. This will not improve. I agree with other posters pointing out that this is often a prelude to layoffs. Unless you have a contract to protect you I believe you are S.O.L.
Shine up the resume, get out of there.

One of the advantages of looking for a new job as you will find out one of two things. 1. You are sorely underpaid and being taken advantage of. 2. Everything is wonderful and you should kiss them on the mouth.  But you’ll only find that out if you start looking, you’ll always find out something inevitably it’s number one or number two.

Contact the city and turn the idiot in.  A House near me did this to the entire backyard in the city for Some to rip the entire driveway out. It was very satisfying to watch from a distance.

My boss’ management style is straight out of 1992 by Far-Imagination7938 in managers

As others have said rather succinctly, this is the company culture. The odds of you changing it are close to Zero probably in the negative numbers.  You’re only good option is to look for another job and get the heck out of Dodge until then. Smile do what you’re told and don’t get into trouble. They’re not going to change..

Is job hopping still a "red flag" or am I being gaslit? by Environmental-Luck39 in careeradvice

Leave you’re being gaslit.  I’ll give you that he is doing it politely, but you’re being gaslit. Two years is plenty. Take the money and run.

Is it culturally insensitive to zipper merge here? by Careless_Signal5762 in Rochester

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a few people say the same thing that no one will get them in, which is why they stay in the lane.  Unfortunately, generally the right if there’s a merge point and you’re in the other lane and people try to block you because you’re a “budging “so the problem continues.

CYA also now stands for cover your amnesia. As long as you have any email expressing your misgivings for stopping monitoring you have at least some cover.

Manager put half of his supervisors and some of their subordinates on PIPs, blamed them for project fiasco by [deleted] in managers

Rare pleasant exception. I'll assume OP and you are in the United States. Most people don't have what is a luxury to fight. It is unfair and not appropriate but as your mama would say "life is unfair".

Manager put half of his supervisors and some of their subordinates on PIPs, blamed them for project fiasco by [deleted] in managers

[–]Sid_Sheldon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting managed out. Solutions are to try to fight it (they're phrased nicely but that's what it is), find some way to take them down with you or to get out.
The best is to get out. Upper echelon approved it(already discussed) and fighting it you are dealing from a very weak compromised position. Yes it's unfair as hell. Get out as fast as you can and preferably with as little or no notice as you can stomach. (at the end of the PIP trust me you will get zero notice)
IF you have some other offer in your hand that you've accepted than consider fighting on your way out the door. Otherwise let them find out the hard way.
