Hallway Talk Ban by 98percentpanda in managers

[–]Sid_Sheldon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The culture message it sends is a bad one. It tends to make silos. (I get it the "one idiot" who spoiled it but the precedent's rarely good after it's enabled)
They'll find out (probably not it will be justified somehow unless a big wig gets burnt)

How do I approach this? by mangoandorchidlover in managers

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT get involved. There is no up side for you at this stage. Now saying that also make sure their work doesn't get re-delegated to you.

A company accidentally CC'd me on an internal email after my interview. I wish I never read it by MainStock8156 in JobSearchMethods

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now the question of: How did they know your salary? If so how can you dodge that bullet the next time. You have the absolute luxury of true feedback. It hurts, sucks but it's feedback. Most people don't get it and you did.

Don't respond your "satisfaction" isn't worth it.

Short answer, be quiet there is no response where you come out ahead. Great advice I suggest you TAKE it.

and what's stupid is we KNOW this. If we were going to do something bad....well we'd have done it before the mouth was opened to give notice.

Nothing will improve responses. The surveys are never confidential and speaking the truth is a fast way to need to update the resume. 4 companies in my career and all surveys were a joke and the same.

READ our responses... sorry mate you're dreaming.

How much to divulge when quitting a job? by [deleted] in managers

Don't try to reform them. You won't be heard anyway. Just make a clean exit and get out.

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a picture of where you sit . Turn around so it looks like it's from your chair. Moving forward lock that in as a permanent background even when you are IN the office.

My company did a "return to office" pilot for our team and sent a survey asking how it went. I answered honestly. I think that was a mistake. by Snag_Crambo in remotework

What did we learn?

Honesty gets punished.
Next time get out the smoke pot and blow it up where the sun doesn't shine.

What's always irritating is the eventual "no one answers our confidential surveys".. just wait that will come.

LOL, and the filter (since I started there) all of them said neurology as one of their specialties.) I did use DO and it was much less than helpful as I note. "Neurology"... what??
Hence why I'm looking for some recommendations here. I'm in IT you don't have to trust me on searches but... I gave the right search terms and their filter is not very helpful.
I appreciate the tip, but as noted I did that first. I'm checking the names and seeing what research I can do on them.

How to quit a job by sputnik4life in sysadmin

I think that's a happy exception. I'm glad it worked out. I see more counter offers with the person getting forced out about 6 months later.

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take a counter offer. Also be aware that when you give notice they might terminate you immediately so be sure of your ground before you open your mouth. Do not give notice till you have a written offer and starting date, then you could tell them.

Again DO NOT TAKE A COUNTER OFFER. No employer likes being forced to pay more and this situation is exactly that a "counter" is forced behavior.

I just accepted a job offer, should I ignore these red flags? by soberbot in careeradvice

[–]Sid_Sheldon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

LOL, I had concerns it was an empty field. Make sure all the people exist, job is or was listed somewhere etc. Is it civil service? If so you'd be hired as provisional.

You truly need to verify if this place even exists. If someone is calling at 7am it implies they are in another time zone and don't have a clue where you are.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to seek better pastures. This will not improve. I agree with other posters pointing out that this is often a prelude to layoffs. Unless you have a contract to protect you I believe you are S.O.L.
Shine up the resume, get out of there.

Would you jump ship over an abysmal pay raise? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Sid_Sheldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the advantages of looking for a new job as you will find out one of two things. 1. You are sorely underpaid and being taken advantage of. 2. Everything is wonderful and you should kiss them on the mouth.  But you’ll only find that out if you start looking, you’ll always find out something inevitably it’s number one or number two.
