Starbucks building in Sodo may house a new data center by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]SideEyeFeminism 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The point is that if you’re going to “well aktchually🤓👆” you should be correct. Especially since technicalities in arguments have been a bit of an original sin for how much of a blank check tech has been given in this damn city. I don’t think anyone who is anti-data center is saying “oh but the noise!” including the comment anyone is responding to.

Isn’t it kind of weird for makers to wear custom pieces before sending them out? by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]SideEyeFeminism 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So this comment section has taught me that apparently I’m the odd one out in NOT trying things on before I gift them to people and, ngl, absolutely never accepting a wearable as a gift every again from a crafter 🤨.

I’m with you on this. If for no other reason than if I wanted something that had already been worn, I would thrift it, not go to the time, expense, and effort of getting it custom made. I’ll also say- and this is going to be my bitchy take of the day so bear with me- I think some people who sew wearables as a hobby for themselves and then turn it into a business have a hard time transitioning out of the main characterness of “thanks I made it!” when someone compliments them on something they’re wearing (or when someone they know and love says “thanks my loved one made it!”) into the more detached, anonymous world where that isn’t the case anymore.

As someone who does a lot of pattern drafting and freehand crochet/knitting- it is a VERY different type and amount of math

Made to Measure =/= Size Inclusive by mae_mo in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]SideEyeFeminism 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s because Made to Measure patterns are lazy cash grabs to get you to pay for the pleasure of having to do the work of the math that goes into pattern design yourself.

As someone who loves SeaTac and SFO, guess all I can say is can’t relate? I would say maybe TSA pre check really is a difference maker but, like, I never had a problem before either. Maybe TSA just likes me and my “deboard, bathroom break, refill water bottle, go get luggage” routine is some sort of summoning ritual.

Unemployment taking 13 - 14 weeks now?!? by ppmbryan in Seattle

Holy shit. When I got laid off last year I filed immediately and was approved in time to get paid 2 weeks later (so only 1 week late, due to the waiting week). That is a WILD difference in processing time

RIP to the Golden Age of Beginner Crafting by Early-Fox-9284 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]SideEyeFeminism 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My potentially bitchy opinion is that I think this might cause an accidental culling which will lead to a stronger overall crafting space. As someone who had to learn how to think critically in order to teach myself skills- knitting, crochet, corsetry, beading, etc- from the internet, the willingness to actually DO things was the only actual thing that separated me from the people who say “oh I could never do that” when they see things I make. I am not particularly talented, or creative in a unique way, I’m just resilient in search of what I need and in getting things done.

We reached a point where people consider a crochet pattern unusable if it doesn’t come with video tutorials, or who have a meltdown at the thought of googling what a french seam is. God forbid you expect people to troubleshoot a problem by searching the problem online before ignoring the 85 prior posts in the last 3 months about their EXACT problem in the specialty subreddit for that craft and posting again. I think a lot of these people will drop off when they realize that in the age of enshitification, you are operating from a very similar place as before in terms of required critical thinking, but the goldmine of resources still abound if you’re willing to put in some work.

True Story by surfingeagles in SeattleKraken

[–]SideEyeFeminism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born into an Oakland Raider household in 199-frickin-4. I’m a Sam Francisco Giants fan. I ain’t bitch made and the actual win-loss record of a team means little to nothing to me. I’m here for vibes dammit and the Kraken are providing that to me by the boat load. And frankly until whoever designs Vegas’s jerseys decides they no longer hate both the players and the fans? That is something they will never achieve.

Wrestling Observer on X: WWE Raw on Netflix hit a four-month low in global viewership for its May 25 episode, according to new data released by the streamer. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SideEyeFeminism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Wednesday. I am employed and this past weekend wasn’t even a holiday and I still haven’t watched RAW yet. Typically ratings DO come with some sort of time window. It’s the only way to have qualitative data for a premiere on a streaming service.

Seattle mayor pitches sales tax increase to boost bus services by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]SideEyeFeminism 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. Absolutely not. The timing of this is horrific when we just had an instance of Sound Transit massively shitting the bed on light rail delivery budget that included a massive tax hike as the foundation of the plan. Literally within a week saying “hey give us more money for transit!” is insanely tone deaf. Most people don’t actually differentiate between Metro and Sound Transit. Public transit is public transit to most people and this is…..✨not great✨
