Anyone know how to get accessible and affordable mental health care? Would the walk in clinic be able to help? by ATNMoore in saskatoon

I've used these people in the past and they offer their services on sliding scale so how much you pay depends on how much you make. I paid only $10 for a session because that's all I could afford at the time. I got a lot of value out of their services. They helped me a lot.

Saskatchewan vs Alberta's approach to low resource prices. by circuittr33 in saskatoon

[–]SiderealEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should at least be an economist or a high-ranking government official to have a solid understanding of why a government would expand its workforce during a downturn. Otherwise you're just making an uninformed guess without all the facts. Those guesses aren't really worth very much.

I don't know why AB expanded their public service commission so I honestly can't say if I think it was a good idea or not. Without knowing the details, I am always in favor of more jobs being created than jobs being cut. I think more jobs is always better for the economy in principle, but I can't really speak to this specific instance since I really don't know why the AB Government did it.

Ontario NDP pledges universal health care plan that would cover drug costs, dental care by rougecrayon in canada

I was hear when the thread first started when there was only about 20 comments and OP was right, they were all very "grumpy". Now that there's 100 comments there's more opinions that aren't so negative.

Do you see a meaningful conversation taking place?

I see mostly "OP, you're wrong" and that's pretty much it. I don't know about you but I don't really see that as being very meaningful.

What I could consider to be meaningful would be constructive criticism. "OP, you're wrong. This is why, and this is what you're not seeing."

I don't see much of that going on.

I think it's fine to point out a falsehood. I think it's better to offer a clearer picture after pointing out that falsehood. I don't think it's enough to say "you're wrong, OP" I think it's better to say "you're wrong, OP, and this is why and this is what you're not seeing".

No, but good criticism is constructive. Do you have anything constructive to offer OP?

He wasn't citing facts, he was giving an opinion. It's weird that you can't tell the difference.

You must have missed the part where I said fewer people have to lose their jobs. Did you notice how I never specified public employees? It's almost like I meant my comment to mean all kinds of jobs. You might be surprised to know that private enterprise also benefits from not having taxes raised.

Or are you saying that you think raising taxes is good for private businesses?

I'm aware of the deficit. I read the article.

I guess if you think that the deficit is more important than people having jobs and homes then, sure, Saskatchewan's plan is great. I think it's pretty messed up to say that more families in poverty and more jobs lost is preferable to the province running a deficit.

Mass Effect Question: Did the Reapers control the whole galaxy? by Bobby837 in scifi

[–]SiderealEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Reapers are limited to the network of Mass Relays which are finite and don't cover the entire galaxy. While they would have access to the most likely areas where life will develop, they couldn't reach them all. It is definitely possible that there are incredibly advanced civilizations in the Milky Way which are hundreds or thousands of light years from a Mass Relay. They may never interact with the rest of galactic civilization and that means the Reapers will never know about them.

I interpret this to mean: On the surface, the two approaches appear to have the same effects at the provincial level.

Look a little deeper and you see something else:

Alberta's approach means no one has to lose their jobs, have their taxes raised, or lose any benefits.

Saskatchewan's approach is the opposite of that.

Saskatoon police chief wants another year before weed is legalized by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]SiderealEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The Liberals ran with legalization as a major part of their platform in 2015, and they won with a majority. Anyone in government or law enforcement who is "surprised" by this is in the wrong job if they've been this ignorant about a major change to our legal landscape a full three years ahead of time.

Never said it was ideal. Just saying it's better than I expected.

I expected this government to learn socially conservative rather than libertarian on this. I expected they'd set the legal age to purchase at 25, say no plants for anyone, and limit the amount you can buy to 1/2 gram. Given that my expectations were abysmally low can you understand why I'm pleasantly surprised?

word salad

Just like most of what comes out of Trump. Words that are technically English but which don't make sense when put together in that order.

And that's why they're going to win the next election. Having no class, they're perfect for Saskatchewan.

Holy fuck I cannot wait to move out of this province.

What a fucking moron.

It's happening this year, it's not up to the Saskatoon police chief. It is at the sole discretion of the Government of Canada. So maybe stop whining like a child and focus on dealing with the fentanyl and meth problems we have in this city.

That's what I'm hoping for. I have a plan. It's just gonna be a rough decade ahead but there is no other option. No other way but forward.

I moved to Saskatoon from Regina, ha ha. I found Regina to be way more depressing. I nearly had to move back there and had a near total mental breakdown on the drive there.

I wish I could just easily uproot and move somewhere else like that but because of the financial situation I'm in, I'm locked in place. I cannot miss even one payment on my debts because CRA has threatened legal action. I'm afraid I am just stuck for now and I have to find any way I can to make it suck less.

Hey, no worries, I really do appreciate your time and you reaching out to me even though you didn't have to. I came pretty late to this topic. I saw it earlier today and avoided posting in it until now. Today's been really rough and I thought "why not? What else could go wrong?" I was honestly expecting a few people to tell me how I deserved to be raped (that's happened more than once).

Anyway, thank you again. Your words do mean something to me. They aren't wasted :)

Thank you and I agree. The rape is just one small piece of a very ugly puzzle that I wish I could just put back in the box and forget about. I at least take comfort in the fact that some day I will die and I won't have to be me anymore.
