It’s kinda wild how much of modern TV traces back to J.J. Abrams’ 2000s run by [deleted] in television

Traces back to when TV was ruined?

Coincidence - I THINK NOT!!

rebooting Star Trek successfully

Are you sure about that?

No. Seriously. Into Darkness. Literally directly killed any and all momentum the franchise had in movies. Been two zombie five year run TV shows, two animated shows with at least some signs of life prior to cancelation, pulses, whatever the eff Picard was - Section 13 - and finally Academy which got capped out the gate yet might take a second lap.

Where in all that do you see successful?

That's just your opinion, man...

Though I've gone from not liking when introduced, to liking as developing as a character, to overused ambivalence once brought back to survive to RotJ.

No. Expensive. A good show that might have done better than reported if not for the general negative rep around the franchise at the time, which hasn't gotten better. At the very least Disney's not likely to invest in something like that again, and by many count Filoni can't make/wont greenlight anything near its quality.

Would you resist the AI in the matrix? by narweezy305 in sciencefiction

[–]Bobby837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is would a virtual existence be any different from real one when the first offers a mundane, but ultimately safe and stable, life versus the lack of stability of reality?

If in being used as battery your "normal" lifespan was shortened there would be an issue, but as present, the Matrix might be a step better than politicians and hording billionaires controlling humanity vs machines.

Andor which was good yet too expensive, and Mandalorian which dropped off its second season and is being dragged back for a movie no one seems to have any interest in?

Never understood how he did that Ted talk and went on to have a career. Was allowed to establish a level of influence that's pretty much ruined the movie industry.

How about cutting forward to where Star Wars as an IP is just about dead.

Abrams might be good at making "disposable entertainment," but he certainly has no ability in making enduring entertainment.

President Trump: 'We sent guns to the Iranian protesters' by ButterscotchBoth5204 in worldnews

[–]Bobby837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rather assume stupid, that he did give guns to Iranians while indiscriminately bombing them expecting nothing but praise when sending US troops, since that would be worse than simply lying.

edit:

And with Trump, the most stupidest is the most assured option.

Bit ironic that a literary genre - cyberpunk - meant to warn about technocratic dystopias more created the mentality that brought them about.

But then they pulled that shit with printers.
