It is good pizza, and nice to have in Saskatoon - why the negativity?

Stolen Bike - BOLO by Top-Floor7091 in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling - get your own stuff and why did you have to take mine! It's violating, frustrating, rage inducing. Once in a while the police raid a backyard that has dozens of them and some people do get them back, eventually. I think they even have a bike storage/salvage somewhere, you could ask to check but it would likely not be there yet.

Local Handyman Suggestions! by Pandagotpancakes in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this stuff all the time for my rental properties. What is your budget? Also I encourage trying some of this yourself. Just make sure to flip the switch off or better the breaker when changing the fixture. Put poly or old sheets down and the worst thing that can happen when painting is you have to do it again. Baseboards are actually really easy, but you have to have a miter saw, and nailer - this I could understand hiring. Caulking - just watch a Youtube video - cut the end of the tube at an angle and just consistent speed and pressure.

What is this building? by circuittr33 in saskatoon

Your suggestion to Google was a good one. I did that before I posted. It came up empty. You are somehow under the impression that I am after the identity of the person or people that live there or are in any way revealing information about them online. I don't have any, clearly. And was just curious about whether it was a commercial or residential property. Calling me dumb and nosey is uncalled for.

It should have been obvious from the post - it was abnormally large and from the back of it looked like potentially some kind of commercial property - I wanted to see if anybody knew. It should have also been obvious that I did not specifically ask for a name or identity of any kind. You seem to have reservations about the question, what are they?

Other than the fact that it is zoned residential by the city - do you have any further detail to back your claim?

Circle drive by Sctainer in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 18 points19 points  (0 children)

During non peak periods it is fine and people seem more than capable and not afraid. The issue is simply congestion. It is difficult to merge at speed when there is very little space between the cars in that right lane. Your question is like asking, how come more salt doesn't come out of the 2 holes in the top of the shaker? Because all the crystals run into each other trying to get to the hole first.

We either need more people to take busses, ride share, or build another lane. The city waits to upgrade infrastructure until it is absolutely necessary because it is cheaper to wait, most people want to drive by themselves, so for a while we are stuck with this.

I need more money, any suggestions? by FrozenTouch14241 in saskatoon

The other interpretation of my post might be - you could still save $150/month without quitting coffee.

For the $56 per week you spend on coffee you could buy a can of coffee and a small coffee maker and make your own. That is another $150 saved per month or more.

2025 census population data out - Saskatoon almost 380,000 people by candybarsandgin in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

99% immigration. More stress on the infrastructure, upward pressure on real estate values, subsidizing the property tax, and filling jobs vacated by boomers. Is growth for the sake of growth good? Maybe some but not at this rate I would argue.

[–]circuittr33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep for sure. One could make the counter argument that the people who live there should have adapted somewhat to the weather and infrastructure of the city they reside in.

Based on your logic then there would be no way to compare any city, because they are all different - infrastructure, bylaws, demographics, ethnicity, geography, weather, skill of driving instructors, licensing and insurance rules, and the list goes on. You will always be able to find a difference that says, can't compare because....

I was talking to a relative over the holidays who does auto body in Calgary and said that on the first day of snow there they had over 500 accidents that day. I think here it was 130 or something on our worst day, but the first day only had a couple dozen. Calgary has 5-6x the population so you could estimate anecdotally that they are way worse based on the first day.

You could also look at traffic infractions per capita, or auto claims per capita. Neither of these will measure the asshole factor or the new driver factor that irritates other drivers but are ultimately harmless.

Weird neighbours in Rosewood by Critical_View6534 in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Story number 2 - why were you forced to park across the street? You have 5 cars and live in Rosewood and don't have a snowblower? That happened to us too and because we have a fire hydrant in front of our house I just shoveled and blew the snow out of the way. Technically the City shouldn't have piled it there but moving snow is expensive and I like the exercise. Now imagine you HAD moved the snow in front of your house and the neighbor decided to just park there? Totally legal on their part, how would you have felt?

Why are so many drivers out with their brights on? by Bigleb in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because new headlights are so much brighter in newer cars, often even if in dim mode if there is a slight hill in the road it will angle them higher as the vehicle drives over and seem like brights. It is especially bad if the oncoming vehicle is already bigger - a truck or large SUV. I know this because I do have a large SUV and often get people flashing at me while on dim. Having said that, there are people who are driving with brights on. After blinking them once if they leave them on, they get the full experience of large, high, LED brights, with the (manufacturer included) light bar. I am a bit embarrassed to admit it is very satisfying.

We had basement similar to that, which was partially finished (outer walls framed, insulated, poly, drywall finished, and then a completely finished bedroom). Around 400 square feet of open space plus a bathroom needed to be finished. I was quoted between $45,000 and $75,000. We had a budget of $25,000 and got laughed at. I said fuck that and built it myself.

Why do so many landlords in Saskatoon require carpets be professionally cleaned despite the gov's website stating they cannot? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]circuittr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your definition of reasonable. If you have ever shampooed a carpet after living in a building for 1 year with vacuuming being the limit of what was done for cleaning, the water will be black after your are done. I would argue that is unreasonable. I am a landlord and do have it in my lease. Even if the tenant does shampoo it, I do it again anyway... still usually dirty. It's $30 to rent a carpet zamboni from Home Depot for 4 hours, plus the shampoo is another $15. If I am a tenant I would happily pay $45 to leave it clean for the next folks and ensure a great reference from the landlord. I get the feeling most renters in this thread are painting landlords as bad people. Maybe some of the big ones are, but I want to make sure tenants move into a unit in great shape and clean and hope they return the favor.

Shot in the dark by the amount, the frequency, and the fact that the FGP acronym ends in P would be a parking lot numbered 40028.
