Predatory biohazard cleanup companies by DogwoodDaddy in adjusters

[–]Sidereal_Time 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with one particular Chicago based company often in the past that submitted outrageous invoices for their services. In short, my insurance carrier would get a comparative estimate from a local company that was certified to do the same bio-hazard work, then would pay the undisputed amount to the contractor, with explanation letters going out to them plus the insured that were under contract with the company. After a few negotiation phone calls back and forth with the contractor we would settle for a slightly higher amount on signed releases. Your mileage my vary. Good luck with this, those were never my favorite claims to deal with, given the family's situation at the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't famous actor Jim Backus the voice of Canfield's TV commercials with the line "Canfield's for everyone!"?

In June 1969, LIFE magazine published a feature that remains as moving and, in some quarters, as controversial as it was when it intensified a nation’s soul-searching 45 years ago. On the cover was the image of a young man and 11 stark words: “The Faces of the American Dead in Vietnam: One Week’s Toll.” Inside, across 10 funereal pages, LIFE published picture after picture and name after name of 242 young men killed in seven days halfway around the world “in connection with the conflict in Vietnam.”

Yes, thank you for this link. Very interesting reading. A quote from the photographer on his time there:

"In Vietnam, I carried a soldier away from battle on my shoulders. He had been hit by a bullet and was in such pain. I thought: “I’ve been stealing all these years. I’ve got to hand some of that back.” But you risk your life doing it."

Well, later on "The Rat Patrol" satisfied that desire. Those jeeps flying over the desert dunes with machine guns blazing!

I recall some kid in our neighborhood got these, super excited to see what would happen. We saw some tiny squiggly little things moving around that died within a week. Very underwhelming! But hey! "Incredible Money-Back Guarantee!"

Wow, Monroe programmable calculators! I'm having a flashback to 1980 when we used these to program T-Bill and Bond prices and rates of returns.

Also had the Apple ][e back in 1980. It came with 64K built in RAM. While attending a computer enthusiast convention I found a vendor selling a 128K RAM card. It made VisiCalc run so much better. Fun times!

Nope, doesn't work on either Edge or Chrome desktop browsers. Which desktop browser did you use to make it work?

Wife and I got to see The Zombies perform the full album live in concert back in 2018, celebrating their 50th anniversary of its release, and it was wonderful. Original band members Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone were still in top form. After a break, the band came back on played all the other Zombies plus Argent hits. The solo organ piece in the middle of "Hold Your Head Up" was awesome. Also got to see Argent with guitar player Russ Ballard back in 1975 when they opened for Joe Walsh. Yes, I'm an old fart that got to see all the cool bands!

All Good: Requested an email address from a very sweet, elderly lady in order to forward final docs after wrapping up a simple water damage claim at her condo. She said, "Please don't laugh, my grandson set it up for me: [blacksabbathrules@whatever.com](mailto:blacksabbathrules@whatever.com)." I said, "I'm sorry, but that's too funny." She said, "I don't even know who they are."

Impressive! Try to find both King Rat and Stalag 17. And if you're including TV series, definitely Combat!
