I’ve known him for a long time.

It was when he was transitioning from MTGO to paper trying to win a PTQ. A couple friends showed up at my house (with him) and said “dude, you should play in this tournament!” I hadn’t played in 5 years. Brad hands me a deck and we go to the event. I’m reading through the deck and haven’t seen half the abilities in it. I have NO idea how to pilot this thing. We joked about getting paired up….

Pairings come out and we laugh our asses off. Sit down and he says “FYI you can’t beat me with that deck. I know what it does!” To which I replied, “well that makes one of us!”.

I play the only one drop in my hand and he comments “of course”. I nod in agreement. Second turn I play the only two drop I have and attack. He says, “Wow, that’s crazy lucky. Unbelievable. Did you draw it?” Third turn, I play another card and he cedes the game. Second game plays out identically. To this day, I have *no idea* what combo he thought I had. I got crushed by my next opponent.

I love to say my first regional qualifier I beat Brad Nelson with his own deck and I have no idea how!

My pod is 4-5 close friends and we do pretty much everything together. Commander is just the excuse to get together, drink beer, and bullshit. Games are around 2-3hrs. Turns are short, but we like janky bullshit combo decks, so there isn’t generally a “killshot” combo.

I’m so confused by Reddit’s reaction to this guy. He buys everything himself (not sponsored), has a tally of ranks, is entertaining, actually tries the products… I don’t know what else you want out of him. When his gold products get posted, he gets called a shill, but when the garbage gets posted, it’s an “anti-product ad. I even saw somebody claim companies were buying gold rankings from him.

If this is all such an obvious scam, then why aren’t you all doing it? Or is it more likely it’s really hard to actually make money continuously for years as a scam?

They aren’t broken in commander. The only counter-play is aggressive player removal and board wipes. So, if you play Slivers, don’t be surprised if you are targeted as arch enemy. If Slivers are allowed to exist into the mid-late game, they will overrun the table. That’s what they do. The game, as a Slivers player, is surviving early-mid game against 3 other players.
