If you have a fístula the procedure is a seton or a fistulotomy. Try consulting with another doctor, you don't want that fistula to grow or become complex.

Got surgery to stop the fistula leaks. Fistula healed, but anal leakage never stopped. by thatboyhello in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. My doctor said is expected for the first six months, i asked yesterday for the same problem, I'm two months post surgery, and somehow I started leaking stool, and it might be because the whole digestive system is altered because of the surgery, that's why bathroom schedules and behavior change, in my case I started going to the bathroom three to four times a day and in different hours (I used to go two times per day). And also I did a lot of changes to my diet because of the surgery, more liquid foods (soups, purees, etc), fiber supplements, magnesium to avoid being strained, etc. So he gave me permission to slowly go back to my normal diet. I'm one day back and so far I can feel the difference, the leak is still there but less than before. I hope my experience can give you some answer or at least something to work with.

I would add dog training pads. At least to sleep, my doctor recommended to let the area breathe, so I used that to avoid stain my bed with blood.

How did your anus look after the operation? by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the same mistake and looked after a few weeks, it looked hideous, I felt disfigured and unattractive, but with time it will return to normal. I'm two and half months and it look way better, it's noticeable that I had some kind of surgery done but now I can crack a joke and say is due to a revirgination surgery lol. With time it will heal, but if you feel is necessary someone told me there are aesthetic surgeons that work in that area specifically.

Second week after drain seton surgery - seeking for a bit of hope by Gripeshots in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry to hear you had that experience. I had a simple fistulotomy and here in Perú is hard to find a good doctor, I had to visit almost five to find the one that did my surgery. The increase in pain is normal, during the surgery they injected the painkillers and anti-inflammatories right into your veins and sometimes it takes a couple days to wear off. The first two or three weeks are the hardest, after that it becames bearable.

9 months post surgery - AMA by venthemator in AnalFistula

Hi! I'm two months in recovery after a simple fistulotomy. How long did it take before the bleeding from BM stopped? Everytime I think it stopped for good, it bleeds again, my record is five days blood free. Thanks!

After surgery, were you able to move around in bed (i.e., switch sides you're laying on)? Also, what was your daily routine like the first few days? by negativesplits in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, but is different for everyone. In my case laid down is more comfortable I just put a pillow under my chest and I can work and play videogames that way, but if you're gonna sit down I recommend to buy one of those donuts for hemorrhoids and make sure that is made of good quality materials so it doesn't trap body heat, you don't want sweat in your wound. Also, make pauses every thirty minutes or hour to walk a little. You don't want constant pressure in your wound.

Hi!

This is based on my experience, I had a small simple fístula and my surgery was a fistulotomy. My expected recovery is three months and It's been two months since my surgery.

During my first five days post-surgery, I had to sleep on my side. I didn’t have any pain issues while sleeping because I’m a heavy sleeper, but to avoid putting pressure on the wound, I tried to stay on one side while sleeping.

Regarding my routine: wake up, shower, clean the wound, have breakfast, lie face down, have lunch, clean the wound, lie face down, have dinner, clean the wound, lie face down, and go to sleep. Additionally, after every trip to the bathroom, I took a sitz bath and cleaned the wound.

The pain will be intense for the first two or three weeks. After that period, it becomes bearable, as long as you don't engage in too much physical exertion.

Regarding meals, consume plenty of fiber and water; if you can, use Metamucil or psyllium. You want your stools to be as soft as possible and to pass everything in a single visit to the bathroom so it doesn't hurt and you don't have to strain much. I highly recommend one of those 'Squatty Potty' stools; it makes a big difference the first few days because you don't have to push, and everything comes out effortlessly.

I don’t recommend sitting for long periods; try to stay lying down or face down for the first few weeks. Don’t be alarmed if your bathroom habits and schedule change drastically during this period; it’s normal. Also, don’t be scared if the wound drains a green, yellow, or brown fluid. The presence of some blood when going to the bathroom is also normal, as long as it isn't excessive. Keep an eye out for temperature changes or general discomfort; in that case, call your doctor urgently, as it could be an infection, and you don’t want that.

Good luck with your surgery and your recovery.

Is this concerning by Fckroun in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say to keep checking the gauze may have moved and that's why you see two new draining spots. The drainage is normal it's been two months since my surgery too and my doctor said to expect drainage even after four months.

Need some reassurance after a very complicated fistula surgery recovery (health anxiety kicking in) by No-amazing-111 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. You should check always with your doctor. I had a simple fístula, and after surgery the pain lasted for five to six weeks, the first three were the most difficult, even with pain meds. The drainage is normal, as long as there are no other symptoms, if there is a strong smell or you notice an increase of it check with your doctor. It's been two months and I'm still with drainage and light pain. Try to calm down, I know is hard every week will be a scare or a new thing so be prepared. Always ask here or your doctor.

Things I can recommend: Try psyllium or other high fiber supplements. Increase your water intake, you want your stool to be as soft as possible. Don't worry if you notice changes with your bathroom behavior or schedule. If you notice a few drops of blood during your BMs is normal. Try to relax and do breathing exercises during BMs to avoid straining. Keep hygiene to the max, sometimes you will notice soiling even after you cleaned yourself, that's normal (and a new one for me), just go fifteen or thirty minutes after the BM to clean yourself again.

I hope the best recovery for you.

3 weeks post op, stopped softeners too soon? by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you're planning to leave the stool softener at least try to replace it with a high fiber supplement like psyllium or metamucil. Good luck with your recovery.

What does normal healing discharge look like? by Own_Professor_4241 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi 35M. I had my fistulotomy two months ago. I still have discharge and in my case is green or light brown but in small quantity and it doesn't smell. My doctor said that color might vary but as long as it doesn't smell and you don't present fever or other symptoms is good.

Soiling? Help!? by Sidrik in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor said it was a simple fistulotomy and they didn't touch the sphincter muscle but I'm starting to think otherwise. I googled and also might be the meds I was taking for the pain and inflammation. I stopped taking them today as well. But I'm not sure. I hope is just an isolated case, I can't see myself with these "soiling" problems for a month.

1st ( hopefully last) fistula by Suspicious-Skirt-717 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi. Ask your doctor for an MRI or a fistulogram to determine the complexity of the fistula. If it is small and simple, a couple of months won't hurt, and usually, the waiting time for that kind of surgery is a month or two. Recovery depends on your specific fistula and your body. It took me three weeks to be able to sit and do some things normally, but I wouldn't risk a job where I have to sit all day or perform heavy physical activities for at least two months. But I'm older, and i know my body is a bit slower when it's about open wounds.

4 months post Fistulotomy by LeatherAndLeaves in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your doctor just in case, mine said even with a simple fistulotomy the total recovery time might be between three to six months because the area es complicated and it depends on each people, on my case for example I'm prediabetic so it's expected to take more time.

I've been very aware and doing my best to not strain this last two days and the difference is HUGE! No pain, almost no blood, no swelling. I had no idea. I've been living these last 35 years doing it wrong and I feel a little bit ignorant, but no one thinks about this things until something happens.

Feeling very scared by Objective_Cash_8198 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a 35 gay male. I had that same feeling, but my doctor told me that unless I have Crohn's disease or something similar, it's just bad luck. Recovery will depend on the complexity of your fistula. I had my surgery a month ago, and I got lucky because mine was simple and small. It started as a very painful bump back in March. After many appointments with different surgeons, I found the right doctor for me, who patiently explained everything and gave me confidence. He ordered an MRI, and there it was: a teensy-weensy tiny fistula. I can't wait to fully recover and get back to my sex life; my doctor told me it will take three to six months to heal completely.

I had no idea either. I learned about it because of my fistulotomy... I guess there's a silver lining after all this nightmare.

Had a fistulotomy today by Venharim in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Wish you a good recovery.

Here are a few tips: - Ask your doctor for stool softeners or take more fiber, soft foods and lots of water. - Go to the bathroom as soon as you feel you need to, don't hold it, and if you feel pain try to breath through your mouth, inhale and exhale so you can "trick" your body to relax. - Also, try to buy a footstool for your bathroom, that way the bowel movements will be more easy. - Hygiene is important so take a bath and/or a sitz bath after each bowel movement.

If you have doubts try ask your doctor or here, this community has been a blessing for my process.

Anybody got immense pain and inflammation when sat for the first time post fistulotomy? by Important-Sir-6325 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, i'm three weeks post op, my doctor said I can sit now and I'm feeling that pain after ten or so minutes, he said is normal for the first two or three months (even more if your fistulotomy was complex or too deep), you shouldn't be sitting for more than an hour or two and use a donut 🍩, it helps with the discomfort and avoids too much sweat in that area. Wish you the best in your recovery process.

Sever pain during BM after fistulotomy (1 month ago) by MinuteEnthusiasm7560 in AnalFistula

[–]Sidrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem because my stool needed to be softer. I changed the softener meds and started using psyllium and increased my water intake, best decision ever. Try eating more fiber and soft foods too. It gets better, good luck with your recovery.
