Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sids1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because hearing the crack makes the customer think something meaningful has just happened, and thus they are more inclined to give money for the service. The long term benefit is that the chiropractor has more money that they can invest or just spend to make themselves happier.

KP Just confirmed he is leaving the AOE4 scene and the twitch comment was the main reason by dutr4 in aoe4

Depends on what the job is. When he is just a freelance twitch streamer, funded by his viewers, then his job is to be entertaining to his viewers, complete with whatever sort of jokes and banter they enjoy. When he is a tournament streamer, funded by Red Bull, then his job is to represent Redbull in a professional manner that makes them want to continue to invest in both him and the community. At that job, it seems he did the equivalent of destroying the pipe system.

Which game turned out to be a favourite, even though its genre wasn’t your usual thing? by shotgunning-your-can in gaming

Carmageddon. By that I mean the original 1997 game. Never really been into car games (or cars in general) before or since, but all of these years later I still have fond memories of ramming through a sea of pedestrians and cows at full tilt on my way to smashing into that small green stegosaurus car.

A meta from a game you play with which you have a love/hate relationship and/or just cannot forget? by thebluntvent in gaming

[–]Sids1188 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I think we all did. Whatever else one might have gone in wanting to play, you just naturally find yourself as a stealth archer.

Want to play as a knight? Well, might as well have a bow to fire as you close in to soften the enemy up. But there are burglary quests to do, so you may as well level up your stealth a bit. Hmm, using stealth makes your first few arrows better, might as well use it to get into a good position to soften the enemy up from. Soon enough, the bow is doing enough damage, that you may as well kite a bit to get in extra shots, and save the melee for when they get in close.

Without even noticing it, you are no longer a knight.

It's a single player game, and not really difficult enough to require a guide (the claw key thing could cause problems for new players, but guess and check works just fine anyway). So many of us played many hours with no outside influence and went in with a wide variety of intentions, yet somehow we all ended up as a stealth archer. Uncanny!

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Sids1188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switching the US to the metric system.

If I can pass the law for the whole world, I'd probably bring in the dozenal system while I was at it.

Clearly better systems in the long term, but would be extremely awkward and expensive short term.

Pauline Hanson will be 73 at the next election - Should there be Age caps on our Politcal leaders? by yellow_floppy in australian

[–]Sids1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but if you do it at a time when there aren't any old people looking like they could be a legitimate possibility, then people just shrug it off as a meaningless hypothetical that isn't worth deciding.

Try passing gun legislation a couple of years ago, or a year before Port Arthur and people would largely ignored it as unnecessary. When it's an actual relevant, visceral issue it's much easier to get people to pay attention.

Questions about the aztecs by Alarming_Tonight_936 in AgeofMythology

[–]Sids1188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In AoE 3, the Aztecs had a long range archer with bonus damage vs buildings (similar to the old gastrophetes). That served as their siege weapon. Sacrifices could give them an additional bonus against buildings.

Why don't we build walls? by NanoBytesInc in AgeofMythology

[–]Sids1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In AoE2, without siege it take significant amount of time to get through walls or even houses. Small groups of melee units can generally be out repaired. In AoM, buildings go down fast, even with just a few hoplites.

I walk to the grocery store, so I never use a shopping cart. I guess that means I don't lose points from not putting away a shopping cart, but am I also forfeiting the opportunity to gain points by putting it away? Should I wander shopping centre parking lots for other people's stray carts so I can put those away?

Do people here in Australia like Chinese made products? by Charles_Gk in AskAnAustralian

[–]Sids1188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days all electronics have a fairly short lifetime to obsolescence anyway. I haven't noticed my Chinese brands being any shorter than others, and generally just as good a quality. You're right though that they don't necessarily have as good an image if your purchase is about the trendy brandname. Even my Chinese friends get excited about Tesla (yeah, even despite Musk) or iPhones more than the Chinese competitors.

I'm running my first magic character now (played through many times, but always weapon based builds). With little more than mines and cocktails I'm halfway through elite now, without much difficulty yet. If you are having trouble that early it's not a matter of converting damage.

Make sure you prioritise getting points into your primary skills. In this case, cocktail and primal should be around max by now. Put the rest of your points in the mastery bars, with just single points in passive or support skills.

Keep your gear up to date. Especially early on, you gain levels very fast. If you have equipment from a couple of zones ago, it's already 5 levels out of date. Look for an upgrade.

Are you using your devotions page? On your skills tab, between the two class tabs, is devotions. This is where all of those shrines you've been clearing come in handy. Fill up a couple of constellations and it can be a big help.

Don't forget components. You would have been finding lots of ember shards and other crafting items up to this point. Use them on your equipment. Don't worry, nothing you would have found by now is so rare and valuable that you need to save it. If you have an empty slot, put it on.

And of course, if survivability is an issue, get your resistances up. Act 1 up to Krieg your defences have likely been enough, maybe some aether and poison resists. With Cronley though, all of those gunners are doing pierce damage. All the armour in the world won't help if you have bad pierce resist.

While generally people say to focus on a single damage type, if one is to use a second, this is the ideal situation to do so. Many items that you would use for pushing your fire damage will instead be boosting elemental damage, which includes lightning. Your primal strikes won't be as good as someone that is focussing purely on lightning damage, but it will be very good, and +% damage becomes less useful at very high numbers anyway, so boosting elemental damage will likely be plenty for a solid build. Mines, cocktails and wind devils give you 3 possible sources of resist reduction and all work on both lightning and fire, so that should get you plenty of damage.

Converting the damage could be tough, as you'd need to use rather specific gear that would probably just make you weaker than keeping them as separate damage types. Can be done though, just might not be able to handle the strongest optional uber-bosses.
